I had the Sun Jacinto plan because I have solar panels, their plan was very good but couple of months later they changed the contract and they only warn you with one email which it was on my spam folder so I never payed attention to it,, so they ended up giving me a horrible plan and I can't do anything about it cause legally they did sent me that email and now I'm stuck paying them 500 dollars for breaking the contract,, stay away from this company read more

They were great when we signed up, but switched their solar buy back and now we get next to nothing. Customer service is rude and no help. We were told when we tried to cancel that the grace period was up when we weren't even notified that it was changing. Don't sign up with them if you have solar, they'll just take advantage of you and screw you over. read more

This is a very technology forward thinking company. They don't have gimmick pricing strategies, like minimum purchase, flat fee pricing, or hottest days/nighttime use 'free,' while having super gouged prices the other remaining times. I've switched electric providers at least a dozen times over the past 15 years, and this is the only one I've ever left a positive review for. They offer discounts on your bill for paying on time as well as during high usage events, which are called 'Peak Perks.' I locked in my price for one year in January 2022, and having 2 electric cars, and a 2000+ sq ft house, my bill yet has to exceed $180 a month, (typically runs $100-$130), and I still have a $50 bill credit to apply that I likely will use on my bill come September 2022. read more

They offer rewards that you can redeem, I had almost 200 points that I redeemed for a target gift card and they said I redeemed them on the 18th and my "contract expired" on the 13th so I am not able to receive my gift card. Regardless, the points were mine to redeem. I have a third party company that switches my electric so I don't control that, just beware of their "rewards" they won't actually let you redeem. read more

I hate this company. We are on a fixed income as retirees. We wrap up in blankets. We never have our thermostat higher than 70. We were gone for 10 days last month and our electric bill was so high. Now our projected bill I see will be anywhere between 496-$530. How is this possible. We are so conscious about usage. Through the storm we burnt wood. We have to pay a $400 termination fee. Energy Texas is the absolute worst provider I've ever dealt with. My first bill was for 1,200 more kilowatt hours than I've ever used. Nothing has changed in my home. I was never able to pay my bill online, every month required a lengthy phone call just to pay my bill because my Login credentials never worked. They even had problems accessing my account. Last month I never received a bill but got 3 emails the day after it was due stating that my bill was past due. They sent a disconnect notice the same day, ridiculous. Everything was great in the beginning, then I began noticing my bills getting higher and higher. Last bill I received was for over $800 for one month. I called to find out what was going on and they somehow had me enrolled in a month to month contract that was currently .21 cents per kWh! After searching online was 2 seconds I was able to find and switch to a rate that was half of what they have been charging me. I would stay away from this company for a solar plan. They lure you in, then change your plan. I signed up for 6.2777 cents for both import and export. On the first two bills, the import/export was the rate I signed up for. I received an email that they would pay the market rate up to the rate I signed up for. The most recent bill they bought back my excess at 1.7 cents per KWH. I exported 3 times what I imported. Also, my solar company has taken Energy Texas off their recommended list. read more

Energy Texas and Green Mountain Energy are engaged in a practice to deceive customers under long term fixed price plans with solar generation buyback. Energy Texas buried in their Terms & Conditions that their solar buyback plan can be changed at any time and does not make this clear to their customers when buying a fixed price contract. Energy Texas later sells the fixed price contract to Green Mountain who forces the customer to choose between keeping their fixed price rate or changing to their solar buyback plan at a much higher rate for the energy they consume. It is clear that these two companies are colluding and conspiring to defraud customers with this deceptive practice. Fast forward to May 2023 and I get a notice they sold my service contract to BKV Energy. They didn't call me or anything. The notice of the change came from BKV Energy. I always paid my bill on time, and most of the time I paid early. I'd steer away from this electric company. After reading through the reviews, I find I am not alone at being frustrated by the recent changes in their solar buy back program. To go from a one to one reimbursement to market rate caused our bill to increase dramatically. Their buy back program was the main reason we switched to this company and for it to change less than a year into a 3 year contract was quite unexpected. I called in July to inquire about cancelling our service and was told that the Early Termination Fee would be waived as a courtesy, but when I cancelled in September, I was told that the offer expired in July. I am set up for autopay. They always process the payment within a couple of days of payment due date. This month they processed an entire week early. I did not expect it to process until after I received my next paycheck. How can anyone budget with this lack of consistency? I called customer service and requested they pay for my overdraft fees because of their error. They stated they are allowed to process the payment as soon as the bill is published. This is crazy! My wife and I signed up with them when we had solar panels installed. About 2 months later, we started getting bills almost weekly. When we called to try to resolve the issue, we were told they would put a ticket in and call later. I waited 2 weeks and called back, but there was still no answer. I was told that they needed time and could take 40 days. Well, now it's pushing 2 months later, and I call again. This time, after holding for upwards of 20 minute, I'm told they figured it out. Still though, something isn't right, as said by the person I was speaking with. She said she would put another ticket in and call me back at a later time. I requested to speak with someone higher up to try and get some answers but was told they're in a meeting, they're busy and finally even if they get on the phone they wouldn't know what was going on. When I asked to speak to someone who knows what's going on, they said that is not possible. I have just been looking for anwsers and to speak with someone, but apparently, their customers are what they care least about. I was paying upwards of $120 or more a week. I'm tired of playing phone tag or getting no call at all. They were supposed to call when they figured out the "issue" out. Do not enroll with them. I enrolled for auto pay when i first signed up with them which was a year ago. they were taking payments out pretty consistent with my due date which is the 23 of each month. This month i get the bill on the 7th for 600 , the amount is insane but its not what im upset about. today the 8th i get a notification that im over drawn, the pulled payment today just randomly. I called to ask why if this is not my due date and it caused me to over draft. Their response was we have a disclaimer when you enroll in auto pay we can take the money out when ever we want after we send the bill. Worst Energy Provider I've ever used. In the middle of my contract period they changed the buyback rate for my solar buyback plan. They claimed they were allowed to do this based on fine print in the solar buyback addendum which they did not provide at the time I signed up for their service. I refused to pay the final bill in full (I recalculated the bill and paid what I owed based on the promised buyback rate) so they have now turned it over to collections. read more

I was offered a promotion of $200 off my first month's bill when signing up for new service with this company. I never received the credit. When I emailed to inquire, I did not get a response. I called when I received a second bill without the credit, and was told that I did not qualify for the credit since I didn't sign up for auto pay before my first bill. That requirement was not clearly communicated to me in any of the correspondence I received when I set up the account. Further, they claimed they sent a response to my email and argued with me when I said I had not received anything. I know I didn't get anything, because I was in my email searching for a response while I was on the phone. I will be taking my business elsewhere. My experience with Energy Texas has been just fine. After seeing all the negative reviews, I'm puzzled. I've not had any erroneous bills and use auto pay and paperless billing. You can choose to pay early or accept the due date as your payment date. Most of my dealings with the company have been online, so no experience with telephone customer service. Overall, no negatives to report, plus I've had some rewards for on time payments. My advice to all those folks with negatives to report is to read and understand the website and use common sense. I reached out to EnergyTexas via their email address and they called me to discuss the issues I was having. They told me they could change the date of my move-out which is a month from now. They said the customer representative provided me with incorrect information and that they would me retrained. I am happy they could make the change given a month's notice and I appreciate the promptness of their response to my email. I think if you have an issue, don't call them because you may get someone who doesn't know their policies or does not completely understand them. Instead, email them. read more

Sent out an email which made it sound like a good thing because you could get paid more. In reality the buy back was 1/3 of the original rate and could never go above what the original contract was for. I signed a two year contract based on this information. A few months into the contract, they changed the buy back rates, and now it's variable. They don't take into account that you are a member that has been paying and got behind. Will say yes without looking up your account t note that they have talked to you and want 500 to switch. My bill jumped from 88 to almost 300 in one bill. I didn't have it but had a partial payment called in and gave my name explained that I would have all but 179, was told it would be fine. The woman never put in anything. Then in August hot as hell power is off. I called in and got told that there was no record of my first call and nothing they could do. I wasn't behind for months, wasn't rude explained my problem and over and over told they couldn't do anything without money. I explained that I don't get paid until the 5th and that would be days without electricity with 4 children in the home during 90 and up heat, and asked again if there was anything that could be done. Was told to borrow money then they would be happy to help. Asked to speak with someone higher that could possibly help. The supervisor if they really were had the same practiced speech. With no answer as to why I was told it was ok, why nothing could be set up or help to provide. I am almost 40 years old and have never experienced a company shutting off service for a partial payment when you have always paid the bill in the past.I have lived all over America during my husband's service years and a partial payment that was made even without calling in was accepted. Bills are double my previous electric company. I did things to lower my electric cost this last month and my bill was double. I live in a bedroom apartment there's no reason for it to cost $400 for electric for one month. I call to talk about it, wait on hold to talk to someone, I can barely hear them. They put me on hold and then it didn't even seem like they looked into it. I asked him if something could be wrong with my meter and he just stayed quite for a really long time, total waste of my time and money. I'm never using this company again after next month. read more
