    Cheese pizza
    Karina A.

The people in here were so nice and provided such a welcoming and kind atmosphere. While we ordered take-out, ordering online was easy and our food was ready for pick up. Parking was easy, we found street parking right in the front. We got a cheese pizza and pepperoni pizza - the pepperoni pizza had a kick to it. The size can definitely be shared between two people. The pizza wasn't out of this world, it was fine, but just because of the welcoming atmosphere I would be back.

A nice, quick bite before going back home. Both the Bridget's Brainstorm and the EM Eliza Maxwell's pizzas we got were delicious, with plenty of toppings and a soft, airy crust. Pretty reasonable prices too

I've lived in Santa Cruz for almost five years and have only recently gotten to try Engfer Pizza Works. Where have I been because they really offer one of the better vegan pizzas in town. They sport a large array of vegetarian friendly pizzas that can be veganized by removing the cheese (obvs) and using their house-made tofu spread and red sauce as a base for any pizza. They also offer a gluten-free crust too. Being newbies, it was fitting for us to try their New-Bee Pizza (vegan style) - a toasty mix of garlic, olives, and red bell peppers. A large sets us back about $35 including tax. We also ordered their soup of the day, which was this creamy sweet potato stew that was fully plant-based too. Our pizza was fantastic. Took about 15 minutes to come out but the crispy pizza crust with the fragrant toppings was really great. My only wish would be if they had some plant-based meat options or other appetizers besides the pizzas since we were hungry, but the pie itself was just great. Drinks are easy to handle as well. You simply serve yourself water or head over to the large fridges to grab another beverage of your choice, and pay at the end along with your pizza. Street parking is available if you're lucky to find some. It wasn't a problem for us visiting even late at night on a weekend.

This has been my go-to since its inception. Wood-fired pizza with a neighborhood vibe. Best pizza in town with a gazillion choices for gluten or gluten-free, plus a ping pong table, warm and welcoming atmosphere, delicious salads and soup, with a myriad of beer, wine, and nonalcoholic choices. Also, don't miss the hoho cake.

The pizza is amazing, thinner crust, excellent dough and when baked in the wood fire oven, the crust comes out crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The meats and veggies they use are high quality, the pepperoni and sausage had excellent flavor and the mushrooms tasted great and still had a bit of chew and thickness to them after they were cooked. The sauce was tangy with hints of spices and just the right quantity in comparison to the cheese and toppings. I purchased an order to go, but the cafe is fairly large with a cool atmosphere that reminded me a bit of a 1950s speak easy. The wood fired oven is the centerpiece on the left as I walked in, with a stack of wood underneath and decorative tiles covering the outside. The staff were very kind and easy to talk to. When we placed an order over the phone, there was no fuss but quick and kind service. The parking in the area (because it's Santa Cruz) could be a little tricky, but there is some street parking. Highly recommend!

The customer service was great!!! The environment felt welcoming :) the broccoli and cashews pizza was very tasty. This is a good spot!

Peppi-Tom and pineapple garlic. It was piping hot! This is me trying to cool my mouth down.

Best pizza I've had in Santa Cruz! We got half peppi-Tom and half pineapple & garlic. I loved the marinara and pesto combo. It was super saucy, which is how I like it. It had a great amount of toppings too. The crust was light and crispy. It came out incredibly fast and we were there on a Saturday night. The woman with short hair who helped us was so friendly and delightful. I got a piece of cake to go and it was also a tasty treat! Can't wait to go back!

We decided to try this place and it's close by. We walked in and we we grabbed an ipa and a cider then we ordered our pizza. They have a nice selection of pizzas but we decided on our favorite mushroom and pepperoni. We sat down and our salad was brought out right away. It was greens dressed with vinaigrette and feta. It was simple but very fresh. Our pizza was so good. The crust was crispy and light. The wood fire cooked to perfection. The ambiance is very simple but we loved the locals vibe. We will be back for sure.

So I'm not gonna lie when we first pulled up we thought it was gonna be busy but it was completely dead. We were considering of going somewhere else but we wanted to give it a chance so we went inside order our pizza and it was a breeze also very nice service and we also got to play some ping-pong while we waited for our food so that was fun, the vibes here are very local which is nice. Highly recommend this place if you'd like thin cut pizza, maybe add a little bit more extra red sauce because it was a little amount they put on but a great place overall come check it out you put yourself. Also, almost forgot the best part that it's woodfired pizza !!

My boyfriend and I decided to try a new pizza place and chose this one- we were extremely happy with the service, the food, and the cleanliness of the store! I was also very excited about all the different vegetarian choices, it was hard just choosing one. We will definitely be going back!

Great wood fired pizza, and a cool little spot. Definitely worth trying out, and we will come back whenever we're in Santa Cruz.

We were really excited to try it because it came highly reviewed and had been recommended by friends. I was especially looking forward to checking out their beer menu. Unfortunately, we ended up leaving because of the very strict no-substitution policy, which felt surprisingly constricting for a pizza place. Since they already offer vegan cheese, we thought it would be reasonable to substitute dairy-free cheese onto a standard pizza or add meat to one of the vegan pies, but neither was allowed. For families with dietary restrictions, a little flexibility can go a long way. We left disappointed, especially since this was supposed to be a birthday lunch. I'm giving two stars because I genuinely think they probably have good food and a great beer selection. I just think they could have done better in accommodating reasonable requests for guests with dietary restrictions. Maybe it's just not for us, but as a fair warning to others with dietary restrictions, don't assume that menu items can be modified simply because they already carry the ingredients. It may be worth calling ahead before making plans, especially for a special occasion.

We particularly like that one can choose slices from a constantly refreshed selection of fresh pies in the counter area. Gigantic specialty slices are generally in the $6-$7 price range each, and can be freshly heated in their ovens. They're all traditional New York style pizzas. We selected three different pizza slices and split them amongst ourselves so we got to taste all three. Our hands-down favorite was the Manresa, a specialty vegetarian white pizza with basil, garlic, sliced Roma tomatoes, and ricotta cheese. We also enjoyed an Old-School Pepperoni, and a Rockaway BBQ Chicken, which featured chicken, BBQ sauce, red onions, and cilantro. The pizzas were served with freshly-made creamy basil ranch dipping sauces. Everything was tasty. This is a very popular restaurant. There is ample seating, yet most of the seats were taken on a Wednesday afternoon around 2 pm. The aisles are somewhat narrow, and people were bumping into our baby stroller. Staff were friendly. We would eat here again. (Note that there are multiple Pizza My Heart locations in central to Northern California).

The not so good: during our visit on a busy Friday evening, the place seemed to be run almost entirely by college kids who just don't "get" customer service. The customer line starts with the store selling clothes(!) to the customers, which completely slows the food line down because the young kids can't figure out how to wave people around the clothes shoppers. Then at the cash register the next kid handed us the wrong food. Finally, although the place has 3 or 4 large screen TVs and even though the USA team was playing World Cup soccer, only one TV was set to the game and when we inquired with a teenager about switching one of the other units to the game, the young gal said, "uh, yeah, I will check", apprently with a non-existent "adult" manager, which never happened. In the future, I would avoid coming here when it's busy.

Located in the east side of Santa Cruz, there is a coastal vibe in the area that lies flat. Don't be fooled by the maps because there is plenty of parking behind the restaurant. We advise to make reservations as it gets booked quickly. We made reservations about a month in advance. The staff were welcoming and accommodating. We came an hour early and they were able to get us to the available seating right away. You'll notice some vintage photos of people enjoying the restaurant many decades ago. With jazzy music in the background and a friendly atmosphere, I knew this was a good spot to choose. There's a variety of pastas you can get. I got the spaghetti pomodoro with chicken. Chicken and other meats have an additional cost, but they are so worth it. The spaghetti I had was chewy, fine, and tasty. I've never had anything like this before in Santa Cruz. The restaurant has a bar setting for those who want to casually take a sip. This is a great place to go on a date or celebrate for a birthday. I would 100% recommend.
