Stopped by one afternoon for a late lunch. I ordered a slice of "all meat" pizza from the case, and right then they happened to take a fresh "all meat" pizza out of the oven and offered me a slice from that one. Definitely yes! My daughter ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce. She had recently had oral surgery and could only eat soft foods. That's why we went to Upper Crust, because we knew they had pasta, not just pizza. Everything was delicious. My slice of pizza, fresh out of the oven, had a nice thick crust and tasted the way an "all meat" pizza should. The spaghetti with meat sauce was flavorful. It was our first time at this Upper Crust location, usually we go to the one on the West Side. Service was friendly too and it had a nice vibe. I'm giving it five stars because this is what a pizza joint should deliver. read more

Ordered a Hawaiian and pepperoni pizza last night, one of the worst pizzas ever and expensive, never again

Christmas Eve ,I get cannolis and fill them on Christmas. So they are not soggy.The first few years it went smoothly. I asked if this was something he offered. He said yes . This year surprised to see I had a small container of filling so I asked is this enough for 6 ? He said yes. Previously he put the filling in a plastic bag and it was enough.This Christmas Well only 4 cannolis were filled because there was not enough filling. I spent $30.00 on 4 cannolis.!!!!I took the two empty shells back to show him and maybe get a better understanding of the shortage of filling.It was not received very well and I get the impression he wants to fill them himself but not communicating that. I haven't had an Upper Crust pizza since about 1982. My friends and I would grab a pie and take it to the Sky-View or we would meet in-store on Soquel Av because one of them was dating a staff member. He WAS really cute, btw. Last night I ordered a large round with pepperoni, mushrooms & extra black olives. And what arrived was spectacular! Ordered one large, thin crust, pepperoni pizza - what I received however was a seemingly frozen grocery store pizza, with 8 small slices and plastic looking cheese. When ordering over the phone at this location I was met with utter incompetence and confusion in trying to get the cashier to understand not only my order, but the simple question as to if I could use a gift card I received from their other location. After the painstakingly long phone call to place my order I went to pick up my pizza where I was met with not only more incompetence but also a lack of understanding. When I went to pay I presented my gift card which was immediately looked at with confusion and shown to some manager in the back, only for me to be told that it would only be accepted at the Mission St. location, despite there being no statement on the card and me having just been told it would be accepted over the phone. Not wanting to cause a fuss and honestly being quite hungry I paid the $36, before even seeing the size of the pizza. It then took probably five minutes for me to convince the cashier and manager to let me buy a side of ranch, debating with me over how I would be paying when I had no cash and could not use the gift card. I eventually got an 8 oz container of "Hidden Valley Ranch" for a whopping $5 and was handed a pizza that could not have been more than 9 inches. This review is solely on their spicy turkey vegetable soup. It's so freaking good. It's actually spicy and is full of carrots and celery - it's light on the turkey but honestly would be fine if it didn't have any turkey in it. It has a tomato based broth and is full of spices and flavor in every spoonful. My boyfriend LOVES their thick crust square pizza (I don't like pizza so I'm not a good person to gauge how good it is.) I always say yes to eating here for the soup. Worth it. read more

Good pizza from an unassuming pizza joint, located off the usual path. My bf and I got a large half and half square (cause it has more crispy edges). He got pepperoni and I got the ranch bbq chicken. The ranch bbq chicken is unique, instead of a tomato sauce it's the house made ranch white sauce and the still slightly raw red onions add a nice contrasting texture and a bit of bite to the ranch. The restaurant is clean and the service is friendly. It seems like it's a local favorite, we saw several people who seemed to be regulars carry out their orders. This is my first trip to the Soquel Ave. location. My friends and family spent many Tuesday evenings frequenting the Mission St. store from 2001 to 2004. Tuesdays = all you can eat pizza, and the environment was outstanding. There was a real sense of community: regular customers, friendly staff, just a real family feel. There was often a wait for a seat but it didn't matter. When the wait staff came around with the pizza slices, you felt attended to. You were welcomed; every 5 minutes. I'm sad to report that environment is completely absent from the Soquel store. There is no wait staff here - you are required to go to the counter to request your pizza and with the cramped space and lack of staff, you're often left waiting for service whilst standing, empty plate in hand, seemingly begging for more food, with newly arrived customers that are waiting to simply place their to-go orders. The pizza is above average but the quality declines the longer it sits in the warmer. I should have just driven the family the extra 15 minutes to the Mission St. location. read more

This place has got some pretty awful employees! I never even made it into the restaurant, because I was being harassed from the moment I drove up. I was changing my grandson from his beach clothes to clean clothes before going inside, and an extremely rude young male employee came out accusing me of smoking. I do not smoke so it threw me off, but I assured him there was nobody smoking. Not even 2 minutes later he came out to say it again, while all I was doing was putting on a 3 year olds shoes. My husband went inside to ask for a manager, and some sassy disrespectful young female employee said we weren't welcome to eat there. We had no intentions on eating there after being harassed by their employees regardless. You would think with a restaurant empty of customers, they would have been happy to accommodate the seven of us who were trying to eat there. I will never go back again and I will tell everyone I know to avoid the experience that I had to endure. This place needs some new employees before they scare anymore customers away. read more

There was zero flavor and the texture of the crust lacked all luster. I was beyond disappointed. We have had much better frozen pizza. What's up? One of the better pizza places in town. I go for the square pizzas. Staff are friendly and slide a piece in strips for my son who likes it that way. That seems like a little thing, but it's easier that doing it with a butter knife at the table. I haven't tried the sandwiches, but have been pleased overall with the other items I've ordered. The crust is pillowy, moist and lightly chewy on the interior, but with a nice crispy exterior. These pies are just right, not too thick and never bready. After a long HARD day of moving my mom, she bought us pizza from this place. We had Sicilian Style ...(the square kind), and I immediately took one from the middle. I don't really like pizza crust, so I went straight for the heart of it. It was good and thick. I put lots of hot pepper on it, and stored some of the flakes between my teeth so I can enjoy a hot bite afterward. After two slices, I was done. Even after a long day of moving. This place is in walking distance from my house, and I never go there! Why? It is basically thick crust pizza, and I don't mean your average pie either. The pizza is more bread than anything else, and is flat tasting in regards to flavor, spice, and taste. All I can say is that this is very un-impressive pizza. Fantastic pie. Square thick crust; half all meat half pesto sauce garlic and cheese. We are in from out of town. They delivered to the room no prob. Also ordered their soup of the day; turkey and veggie. It was solid. Real good broth, good spice with lots of fresh herbs. Didn't have any turkey until the last couple bites, I had originally assumed maybe the gentleman on the phone wasn't aware it was vegetarian soup night. I really like the food from Upper Crust Pizza. We ordered it last night for delivery, waited almost 2 hours and then had to put the pizza back in the oven to heat it up. The driver told us that he had to go to the other side of town with our pizza in his car. REALLY?!? Can't you plan a little better? The pizza was good once it was heated, but we could have ordered a superior pizza from Pizza my Heart, who at least tells you that it can take up to 1.5 hours for delivery (and normally it is delivered in less not more like Upper Crust). Ordered from here in store the other day and the pizza was good. They offer a square deep dish pizza or a round thin crust pizza with your choice of toppings. My aunt suggested getting pizza from there as they had good pizza and good cheesecake. She's not wrong. I ordered two large pizzas with two toppings each, four slices of cheesecake and a small soda (they have Coke products). The total came to $65 even. It seemed really pricey to me. You can also go in and order pizza by the slice. I didn't see what type of pizza they had, but I did notice that they had both thin crust and the deep dish. The pizza tasted really good heated up in the microwave the following morning. As for the cheesecake, it was really good. The crust tastes like a graham cracker crust made with butter and cinnamon. I would eat here again, but at those prices, it'd probably be a while, even if I didn't live 2.5 hours away. read more

Tried this place for the first time tonight and I was shocked at how good the pizza was! I had the Hawaiian and BBQ chicken pizzas. They were both AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS!!! I didn't have a problem with too much bread like others have said...the sauce was not overbearing either. Sadly not a lot of places deliver to the Rio Del Mar area, but this place does.
