Maybe it was the gameplay or maybe it was the concessions or both at Salem. My wife and I often enjoy walking the scenic trail in the evening. My only complaint is that the trail is showing a lot of over growth of weeds through the gravel. All in all, Walrond Park is a beautiful place for the local community to enjoy.

The baseball park is a local favorite pastime. It is the home field of the Bluefield Blue Jays minor league baseball team. It was renovated back in 1975 and it seats approximately 3000 fans. The stadium was built in 1939 during the Great Depression and was rebuilt in 1975 after a fire. The seats were brought in from California. A local hometown favorite place to go this stadium brings many memories back for me watching the former team Bluefield Orioles play. Back in the day the team was the minor league for the Baltimore Orioles . Today it's the home of the Bluefield Blue jays.

This is one of the most exciting places to take in a college football game. Being a Tech alum, I've attended plenty of games at Lane, and its environment is fun, welcoming and amazing. Although Tech fans want nothing more to see their Hokies win yet nearly all Hokie fans in attendance are respectful (and even friendly) towards their opponents (well, UVa may be an exception, haha). That vibe is contagious and it makes for an overall great experience. Lane Stadium can house 65,000 people - that's a lot! And when Metallica's "Enter Sandman" starts playing to signify the team's entrance it gets crazy. The entire complex is shaking because everyone is jumping up and down. I love it and I'm forever a fan just because of that. If you've never seen a game at Lane Stadium, and you're a college football fan, I urge you to do so. The fact that this even exists is such a great asset to Beckley. I had been meaning to come here for years, but hadn't been able to make the time u til today. I purchased them tickets only through the website. The cost was between $7.50 to $10 per ticket plus some service fees. Not sure if the price would have been the same at the stadium. I had the option to either print my tickets or pick up at will call. When I got to will call they didn't issue me a ticket, they just said I could show my email to the people at the front to get in. There are several concession stands and food options which are more detailed on their website. The price varied a lot from very affordable ($2 for snow cone) to over priced ($3 for a bottle of water). However, the people are very friendly and the Eplings have created a family like atmosphere. There are no covered seating so bring an umbrella to block out the Sun or rain. Bleacher seating doesn't have backs but the "box" seating does. All seats have great views of the action and the field even over looks the mountains. Just don't park close to the stadium; there are several balls that leave the park and will hit your car if you're parked in the first 3 rows. Overall, I recommend this experience to locals and anyone just visiting!

The Berglund Center is one of those gems that make the City of Roanoke a Star City. It's a…read moremulti-purpose venue that feeds the soul of our community. And the Berglund Performing Arts Theatre in the Center, with 2,150 seats, is one of my favorite places to go for entertainment in this City. Some might call it old, and some might call it small, but to me it's just perfect, since like wine, I feel its gotten better with time, and the community has gotten to know and appreciate it, as well as love it, because the performances played their have enriched their lives. This Holiday Season, as soon as the tickets to the Nutcracker went on sale, I made sure to purchase one ticket, for a front row center seat, to better appreciate the performance, since this year it's the 35th Anniversary of the Nutcracker being performed at the Berglund Center by the Southwest Virginia Ballet. This year it was being presented with a live orchestra, the Virginia's Blue Ridge Orchestra conducted by Dr. Wayne Gallops. And would have new choreography from the new Artistic Director, Laurence Blake. Sometimes when we talk about the Berglund Center, we don't realize that it is more than just the building structure, and we don't give enough credit to the employees and volunteer who play a great role in all of the performances there. They are one of the most welcoming, friendliest, and helpful group of individuals you can think of. This year I also got a VIP tour of the Center and since the day of this performance they were also having the parade downtown, I ended up receiving a personal tour and had the privilege of chatting on the stage with the founder of the Southwest Virginia Ballet as well as with the new Artistic Director of the Ballet. The Arts, in whatever form, is the soul of the people in the community. I highly recommend that you attend the performances here and give the Center and all those groups that perform here throughout the year, your total support. Because they enrich and bring joy to our lives, and by doing so, it gives meaning and a sense of satisfaction to theirs.
