English Sweep installed my dryer vent system a few years ago, and their service has since been nothing short of abysmal. Two weeks ago, my dryer stopped drying clothes properly. Despite reaching out to Travis three times and leaving multiple voicemails, I received no response for 1.5 weeks. After hiring a highly rated company from Yelp to clean my vents, the problem persisted. That company insisted because they ran a camera into my vents, that the original job wasn't up to code, which English Sweep denies. Travis eventually called back and agreed to check the ductwork. He informed me that he would charge a flat fee to clean the vent properly and promised to return the next day. He canceled 15 minutes before the scheduled time and then canceled again the following day. When he finally contacted me after not showing up 3 times, he claimed he could no longer honor the original price. I'm like "WTF"? What happened to integrity and accountability? I guess a person's word doesn't mean much to this guy. He didn't have the decency to call me; everything was handled through text, and blames me for using a company that didn't properly clean the vents. After three days of waiting, empty promises, and a thoroughly disappointing experience, I strongly advise against using English Sweep. Travis completely flaked on me today!! He responded to my initial call and promptly set up an appointment to sweep my chimney at 11am. He texted me at 10:40and said he was running late. He then asked if 3 pm would work or he could do it at 1:30pm. I agreed to have him do the job at 1:30. He texted again saying he's only accepting cash at this time (red flag). 1:30 came and went and I texted him at 2:40 asking if he was still coming with no response. I called and left a message for him at 3:20 asking if he was on his way. He texted back within minutes trying to put the blame on me for not responding "sooner" to his texts which was completely inaccurate. He suggested coming the next morning (Sunday). I called Travis at English Sweep on Monday afternoon and he came out the same day to clean my fire place chimney and also my dryer vents! I really needed to get my fireplace chimney cleaned since one day we used it and after the log was completely burned out the smoke decided to enter into the house leaving the house full of smoke. When Travis took a look at the chimney and asked how long its been since we cleaned it and I was honest and told him I've never cleaned it and lived at the house for 14 years. He took a look at it and cleaned out 14 years of ash and other stuff that could be very hazardous to a persons health. Travis cleaned my wood stove and flue quickly and efficiently with no mess and a very fair price

Lit our first fire this winter and the house filled with smoke even though the flue was open. Travis, the English Sweep, was able to come within 24 hours, climbed up on the roof & pulled this mysterious wire mesh covering that was sealed in to the inside top of the chimney with some kind of expanding foam spray out of the chimney. Voila! Mystery solved. And we had a lovely winter fire the next night with no problems. Travis did clean the fireplace for us afterwards. Reasonably priced, friendly and very efficient. Unfortunately English Sweep was a no call, no show twice in one day. I had an appointment for chimney inspection and cleaning at 8:00am and didn't hear from him until 11:00am. It's not about the average days, it's about how a company services their employees when things aren't perfect, even if they cause he issue. We will be moving forward with filing. Today was the first time we actually burned a fire since this fiasco (we have a now two year old, so it wasn't practical). Whatever he "fixed" isn't fixed at all. I'd have taken a picture of the entire house filled with someone within two minutes, but I was too busy dealing with dousing a fire, opening windows, turning off smoke alarms, dealing with a hysterical dog, and making sure the baby's room was not impacted, I missed that moment. What a pleasure! Just yesterday I called and left a message describing what I needed for cleaning my woodburning stove (which is mounted into an old fireplace) and its chimney. Travis called me back in a couple of hours and gave me a reasonable quote, and said he had an opening in my neighborhood TODAY! I was so relieved because I know this is the busy season for chimney sweeps. He was right on time. He brought drapes and vacuumed the stove from the inside (left the room spotless); plus he brought a good ladder, climbed on the roof and cleaned the metal insert in my chimney from the top. It was all done professionally and efficiently, and Travis was incredibly warm and friendly. He said my system was in good shape, and that I had "good burning habits" (ie hot, occasionally) because there was no creosote buildup, only soot, which is a good thing, and I should keep it up :-) He gave me a paper inspection report. BTW Travis told me people should get their chimney swept every time they burn a cord of wood, which is good to know. read more

He cleaned my fireplace and dryer but l lost my receipt called him asked him for a duplicate he said he would but he did not. Unreliable

Buyer beware! Against my better judgement, I contacted Travis to clean my newly opened fireplace which had been infested with bee's at one time. I explained the situation and was told it was no problem as he'd been doing this for 20 years. He came over, charged $250 for 18 minutes of work and left after cleaning up some small scraps of honeycomb. I took pictures of them looking up the chimney to see it was clean. A couple of days later, I see honey dripping into the fireplace. I shone a flashlight up and lo and behold the honeycomb was within arms reach and clearly visible from the opening. I called Travis back and got no response. A day later again I called him and he promised he would be over to clean up and he never showed up. In the end I cleaned it myself. If you're foolish enough to contract this company then be sure to pay with paypal so you can dispute the payment, when you're eventually disappointed. AVOID!! read more

This is a family owned business. They have been servicing chimneys since 1993. Travis English is now the sole proprietor and the awesome guy who will come out to clean and service your chimney. The story behind his company is awesome and Travis is such a personable guy. He gives %110 every time he does a job. Travis has been out to work on my chimney twice. Once for a cleaning and simple inspection, second to remedy the issues he first found. (Spark arrestor and damper issues) He takes his time, cleans up super well and makes sure to protect the area around where he's working. He explained the different types of soot that he found when he cleaned the chimney and showed me how to know the difference. (I asked for this knowledge, he didn't just volunteer it) His prices are great. Most sweeps wanted 1.5x what he charged me and they refused to even climb on my roof due to the 45degree angle. So not only did I get an excellent price, I received excellent service, since he was willing to service my chimney!! Unfortunately, I have to agree with all the other negative reviews. I would not recommend Travis of English Sweep and question the integrity of his business practices. I have lost $300 and would caution any future client against using his services in the future. Travis came out to clean the chimney for a rental property I own. He charged me $250 for the 25 minute cleaning which was fine and I really appreciated it since he came by with very short notice. He suggested we order a damper through him since the chimney did not have one. I agreed and paid him via personal check for the deposit of the damper in the amount of $300. We agreed for an installation of the following Saturday. During the week prior to installation, he notified me via text that the damper would be $285 more than originally quoted. I asked him to send me an invoice by the distributor or a spec sheet accounting for the difference in price. He just sent me a screenshot of a "similar" unit instead. The lack of transparency was troubling, but I decided to just move forward. The day before the installation, I had heard nothing from him regarding the specific time. I followed up with him and asked if he could install the damper if it was raining, he said he could not and we agreed to reschedule. Moving forward a couple of weeks later, I again followed up with him the day before the scheduled installation date since I had heard nothing from him. He then notified me that he had received the wrong sized damper and would need to reschedule. In light of all the communication issues with him and lack of transparency regarding damper pricing, I requested a refund of the $300 deposit. I followed up with him several times via text and calls, he has yet to respond to any of my efforts at communication. In sum, I would urge you to consider carefully before hiring Travis and English Sweep. This is not a question of the quality of service, but more seriously, it is an issue of actual fraud. read more

We hired Travis to sweep our chimney and do flashing based off his Yelp reviews and his statements that he could do both. Travis arrived late, spent 35 minutes sweeping our chimney, claimed to have completed flashing, and charged us over $600 for the job. The next day, we awoke to find the room next to our fireplace flooded, and the ceiling in the room full of water. The water was clearly coming from the fireplace, and we never had any sort of leak prior to Travis being on our roof and doing work on our chimney. We called Travis, and he agreed to repair the damage. He came by and ripped out the area of the ceiling that was leaking (approximately 2' x 2'), ripped out the insulation behind it that was soaking wet, confirmed that the leak was indeed coming from the chimney because of a mistake he had made the day prior, and promised to return the next day to complete the repair. He made up various excuses over the next several days and never returned. Travis left our home a complete mess--dry wall, peeled paint, and pieces of soggy insulation covered the room--and cost us another $600 to hire someone else to finish the job. That required patching dry wall, sanding in phases, and painting in phases. Due to the fact that the original job took Travis 35 minutes (but he charged us over $600 for it) and then his work cost us another $600 to fix, I asked Travis to subtract a reasonable hourly wage for his total time spent in our home (I suggested about $70/hour), and then send us the remainder of that figure subtracted from the $600 we paid him. Travis refused. I explained that his efforts to reap a windfall for time he did not actually work, in this unusual situation, was unethical. I worked with Travis for weeks prior to submitting this review to seek a refund for our overpayment. He continues to refuse and has kept all of our money. Please be cautioned that Travis's work is sloppy to the point it can significantly damage your home, and that he is financially unethical. We still cannot use our fireplace because of Travis's "work." We deeply regret allowing him in our home and on our roof. Please PM me if you have questions or would like more detail. read more
