This place is an absolute gem! In an age where High Tea can cost as much as $70 per person, The English Tart's $35 High Tea is one of the most affordable High Teas around. In addition, it's also one of the best High Teas around, and not just because it's affordable! They have been featured on both CTV Morning Live Vancouver and CBC; they also made it into the Province Newspaper's Top 20 Tea Shops. Not hard to see why! Our tray was packed with goodness from top to bottom. You definitely get bang for your buck here, and not just because they offer generous portions. The food is actually really good! Their egg salad sandwiches are absolutely divine. I had a Vegetarian High Tea and my husband had the regular High Tea. He loved the egg sandwiches so much though that he said he would probably do the Vegetarian High Tea next time just so he could have more of the egg salad sandwiches! Have you ever had flapjacks for High Tea, or at any other type of meal for that matter? This is the first and only place I have been to outside of England where you can get flapjacks! The English Tart is a very nice and elegant-looking café to go for rest and recuperation. When I came there on a late Thursday morning, there was available seat at most places of the establishment. I had the Tuna Sandwich with the Vegetable Soup and coffee to go with it. The sandwich was great with most of the contents of the sandwich were fresh. The soup was decent and made for a good sauce for my sandwich. The coffee was pretty good, even though had to use plenty of cream and sugar for my liking. I also had their Victoria Sponge that I found was okay. You should know, however, that they stop serving their breakfast specials at 10:30 AM and their menu choices are pretty limit, despite the many desserts they have on display. The aesthetic countenance of the establishment's interior is overwhelmingly attractive. The place is lavished with antiquated furnishings, sophisticated dishware and traditional surfaces. The staff at the English Tart were very nice and professional with their service when I was there. Overall, the English Tart may not be the must-go-to place for breakfast or lunch. However, it is nice place for a snack or social gatherings. read more

We randomly stopped here for tea and were delighted by the cute English tea shop decor. We each ordered our own pots of tea and a sweet. The tea was strong and very good but our cake slices and pastries were stale. We were surprised because it was late morning, before proper afternoon tea time. The few people in the tea shop were eating giant sandwiches, which looked tasty. We won't likely pass this way again, but if we do, we will stick to the sandwiches. read more

Great quiche (I got salmon) with a generous side of salad and super fresh, flavourful homemade chicken sandwich. Loved the ice tea also. However when the person behind the counter who was about to cut up some baked goods for me dropped their knife on the floor they just rinsed it under running water and went on to cut my dessert with it. During the checkout they handled the machine, wiped it with a very sad looking dry cloth, then wiped their hands with the same cloth, then went on to grab my brownie and put it in a bag for me, no gloves. In the time of COVID this kind of attitude to basic hygiene seems irresponsible and however much we liked the food I won't be back. read more

I went here with my girl and it is a perfect place for a good homemade sandwich and tea. The sandwiches are made from scratch including the bread. The turkey was freshly made with a wonderful cranberry sauce. I have to say the tea selection was also intriguing. As a guy , I didn't think tea is was something to be excited about , but this place changed my view on it. Their earl grey and chai hit the spot. Took my daughter here for 'high tea' to celebrate her birthday - and it was utterly delightful! There were cucumber, roast beef, and cheese and onion sandwiches ... and then we started in on the sweets! Oh my! We had to take most of the sweets home as there were so many... marzipan covered fruitcake, dark chocolate brownies, cupcakes with hot pink icing, apricot tarts ... and did I mention the scones with clotted cream and jam? Super friendly ladies! Bright my baby here one day when i came for tea and they all made me feel so welcome, one of the owners even asked if she could hold her and they helped me find something for my baby to easy while we were there. To be honest, I was always a little intimidated by English Tarts, it's not your traditional restaurant with a typical menu, a million choices, and loud atmosphere. English Tarts is as if you were invited over for lunch to the homes of either Bethan or Ruth(co-owners). It has a cozy feel inside,as well as an energetic, friendly and welcoming vibe from the minute you step out of the hustle and bustle of First Ave to the last bite of delicious home baking offered daily! They also offer High Tea. A tea time filled with a variety of sandwiches, desserts, and of course tea. I myself have yet to partake in this, though I do plan to one day in the near future. I do have a very soft spot for home made baking, and one of the things I love about this place is the variety of desserts offered every day. I always end up bringing a couple things home for later, because you cannot beat the authenticy of these lovely ladies baked goods. Just as the baking is fresh daily, so is the bread. Leading to such a wonderful sandwich with fresh greens, tender carved turkey and don't forget to enjoy the cranberry sauce, another authentic touch English Tarts has come to be known for!
