Food: we had some dessert, a hot chocolate, mocha, tea and americano, all were really good and reasonably affordable, lots of non dairy options and some gf options, nice there is the typical cafe snacks but also meals Service: they were extremely busy, so understandable that it is stressful for staff, but that meant food and drink took a very very long time, using the online ordering from the outdoor tables was a really nice idea, but could be more user friendly, and despite putting our table number in comment section, most of our food never got brought to us, kind of defeated the purpose, otherwise when staff were available they were kind! Atmosphere: on a weekend it is bustling, especially in fall/winter. On the corner of the block it's a great location for people watching, very Christmas and cozy! There are heaters outside as well which makes it comfortable, small bookstore but cozy!

    Cute outside seating

The salmon salad I had was absolutely outstanding. Delicious, fresh, nicely portioned, quality food. That is where they get 5 stars, but the service was so poor, that it dropped it to a 3. There was a HUGE line inside to place orders (this is a place order at the counter and sit down type of place). We saw an open table outside and saw you could order online using a qr code and have it brought to your table. We decided to do this. This was a clunky process and not one that a person from the boomer generation could probably figure out. Anyhoo - we ordered and waited and waited and waited. We never received water or any acknowledgment. I asked an employee if I could at least get the ice tea I ordered and she said it would come out with the meal. Eventually my friends food came out. I sat and watched her eat for 10 minutes before my food came out. Then my food came out. I had to ask several times for my ice tea. I was told "it is in line at the bar". They need to figure out a better system for online ordering if they are going to offer it as a convenience. Paying so much for a glass of ice tea and not even being able to enjoy it with my meal is ludicrous. Anyway. Maybe it was an off day. Go with patience and know the process may be slow. Food was very delicious.

Inlooove Wendell's bookstore and cafe. I feel bad I don't buy books there but food. Their cookies, cakes and pastries are all so delicious. There's usually a long line during weekends and especially summer. Outdoor seating is best cause it gets crowded inside. The chocolate cake is so big and layered. The cookies are large. Their breakfast burger is the best. Also enjoy the desserts sold at grocery stores that are gluten free like the nanaimmm on bars.

Didn't get anything to eat or drink since the queue was very long the whole day but got to check out the bookstore portion so I can only speak for that. The ambiance is very sweet and even though the bookstore is quite small, it has a big selection and from what I've seen, it's got most of the most popular books. It also has a variety of games. The aisles are quite narrow and you really have to squeeze to get past someone. Each aisle only really comfortably fit one person. The seat available there is nice to have but it is rather loud on the inside so it could be hard to focus. I didn't see any staff attending to the bookstore section. Worth checking out!

One of Fort Langley's favorites! They have a wide selection of amazing food and beverages and I like how the bookstore is placed inside the cafe where you can purchase some books to read over some good food and coffee. I can say it is a perfect place for brunch or anytime of the day to spend some time and I love how you can sit outside while watching people, cars, and even cargo trains pass by.

This great little cafe' also doubles as a book store. Wendels is a great place to grab a bite to eat on the go, get a good cup of coffee, stop in for brunch or lunch. Service is friendly and it is an interesting venue to shop after your done eating. We had the smoked bacon benny and the blueberry pancakes. Both were delicious. Seating is limited indoors but there are additional tables outside. Their soups and sandwiches are also great! There are a variety of ready-made items as well as menu selections for brunch, lunch, dinner and even some great deserts. Wendels is a regular stop whenever we are in Fort Langley and it's always a fun stop for a snack and to browse for books!

It was my first time visiting Fort Langley and I didn't do any research before going. I arrived just before lunch time and saw that this bookstore & cafe was very busy. I walked around town first, checked out other restaurants, and went back to this one because it looked like to be the most popular. The only downside to eating at this cafe is all the tables, both indoor and outdoor, are occupied. I had to go back after 1 p.m. I ordered the West Coast Seafood Fettuccine while my friend ordered the Smoked Bacon Cheddar Burger. The food was delivered to us hot and fresh. My friend found the burger to be just the right portion and the ingredients very fresh. I found the same with my pasta. It contained a generous portion of prawns and salmon and the pasta was done perfectly. The overall value and quality was very good.

Went on a Saturday night, long wait to order and not a lot of seating inside, but that probably because of COVID policies, which made us feel comfortable being inside so that was good. The grilled cheese was good but a lot, not your average grilled cheese and was almost more of a sandwich than a "grilled cheese" but the flavour was great! The Mac and cheese was simply amazing! The bacon was perfectly cooked, the sauce was creamy and cheesy, the onions added a good flavour and the garlic focaccia on the side was so good! I will definitely be back to try more of their food! Also had the hot chocolate, pretty average hot chocolate, really good but nothing special. Although they were able to make one of the hot chocolates with coconut milk so that was really good of them! (Can't speak to the taste since I didn't try it)

Very sad breakfast for 27$ Plain toast with no butter, eggs that were overcooked. When you ask for over easy. You expect the eggs to be somewhat runny. In this case. They were Very hard! Hashbrowns were overcooked and cold. Which means that they were sitting there for a while. Same as the farmer sausage. That was a such a disappointment. I love encouraging small businesses. But this is NOT what I was looking for for that price. I could've been to McDonald's and be more satisfied with my meal.

Bee Sting cake and iced tea. Cake is good.

This place was very busy on a Sunday. I managed to get a table when I was there. As it was my first meal of the day I decided to go all out. I had the seafood fettuccine, soup and cake with an iced tea. The pasta was ok but the garlic toast that came with it was very nice. That went well with the turkey corn chowder I had. The soup was ok and served in a tiny cup. I really like the bee sting cake and iced tea. The cake reminded me of hummingbird cake which is like carrot cake but has pineapple. This is with almonds. So good. I think I will get more of the dessert and maybe items from the breakfast menu the next time I am here. Skip the pasta.

Chicken Chili Yam Bowl $16 - (grilled chicken, roasted yams, peppers, onions, cilantro, black beans, sweet chili sauce, crisp tortillas, sriracha aioli) I liked this but the chicken was a bit off. It was cooked fine, that wasn't a problem, it just seemed like it didn't fit with everything else. I liked the flavours and textures overall, but nothing to rave about and no reason to get it agin. Chocolate Mousse Mason Jar $5.75 - (Rich chocolate mousse, topped with dark chocolate) I did like this and It was light. I wouldn't care to get it again.

Went for the first time yesterday. Arrived around 11am and there was a line. The place isn't the biggest but the wait for a table was surprisingly not very long. People were courteous enough to leave as soon as they were done eating so other could have a table. They have 4 inside and probably 10 outside; there are three tables at the back that seat two people that I didn't know about until we left. Stuff: - It's in Fort Langley so there's plenty of free parking. - You can grab a table and order online if you don't want to wait in line - Breakfast is served until 11:30am on the weekend - Cash and Card accepted - And yes. There is a small bookstore inside. The food: The person I was with is anti-photo taking and phones at the table, which was quite nice and is something that should be practiced more often. This means no photos of our food, unfortunately. I had the egg burrito and home fries. I'm a big guy and it filled me up. It was dense. Had to be at least 3 scrambled eggs in there. If you've had the one at JJ Bean, this one is similar. My friend had the special. It was a red pepper omelette. I assumed she liked it. Her plate was licked clean... Would I go again? Without hesitation.

I stopped by for dessert. I was happy to find a lava cake here. It was what I was looking for during Valentine's Day weekend, but did not find it at the bakeries by my home. The lava cake was reheated before it was served. It was just as I expected with a sweet, gooey, chocolate filling. My chai tea tea latte took some time to arrive after I was almost finished eating my dessert. This cafe was super busy. The food here also looked amazing. The bakery selection was very good. I think everyone can find something they like at this cafe.

BUYER BEWARE - WEBSITE HACKED?…read more I've ordered from Republica a bunch of times before with no issues and really enjoy their roasts but my last order was a mess. Paid through their website using PayPal and the money went to some random business name I've never heard of. A few days later they emailed me saying they never got the funds and basically told me to contact PayPal to try to get the money back. Their explanation was that it was a "PayPal technical issue" and that I should always double check the payee name before sending money. That doesn't sit right with me. If I'm checking out on your official website I shouldn't have to second guess whether the payment is actually going to you. Their site was either hacked, their PayPal setup was compromised, or they misconfigured it. How can I check out on YOUR website, have a receipt showing 4 lbs of roasted coffee, but the seller name on PayPal is some random name not associated to them? In addition to that, when they contacted me about my order they accidentally CC'd other people who were most likely affected by the same issue. Their official responses: "Unfortunately, due to a technical issue with PayPal's payment system, some payments were mistakenly authorized to an account not associated with us. In some cases, transactions have shown the recipient's name as "Toko Maria" or "Toko Putri." Please note that Republica Coffee never received these funds." "We wanted to clarify that due to a recent technical issue with PayPal, some payments were mistakenly authorized to accounts not associated with Republica Coffee. If your transaction shows any recipient other than Republica Coffee Roasters Inc., the payment did not reach us. As a result, your current order has been cancelled, and you can place a new order." Instead of owning it they downplayed it, canceled my order, and asked me to order again!? I'm still fighting with PayPal to dispute the original charge with no success yet. Buy at your own risk.

Now what I am excited to talk about the high tea itself! My 3 friends and I shared a pot of cream of earl grey. The taste was rich and creamy (depending on how much cream and sugar you put). I really enjoyed the blend of the tea, it made me start drinking tea again at home. The food was great as it came with an assortment of sweet and savory pasteries. I really enjoyed the spinach puff pastry and lavender lemon tarts! It was just how you would have imagined. Flaky pastry with a creamy spinach and the tart lemon paired with a buttery crust. I just wish I had more of those to eat! You only get one per person. It's also worth mentioning that the staff were super helpful. I didn't like that the egg salad sandwiches used wonder bread or something of that quality. It could have been made a little more special and I wish there were more savoury items. Nevertheless, when we went, we got a choice of three rooms and it wasn't really busy so it was very nice. Usually your time is for an hour and 15 minutes, but we got to stay as long as we wanted. Coffee is about $4 for drip coffee and about $7 for a mocha. We ordered both the eggs benny with bacon and the Dutch baby bowl to share. I was impressed by the portion sizes, definitely a good spot to choose if you're hungry! I had to box up almost half of my food as I couldn't finish it all. The Dutch baby has sausage, bacon, eggs, potatoes and salad under the eggs, so it is quite a substantial meal. We both enjoyed all of the components to each dish, but for me, the bacon was absolutely perfect and my favourite thing on the plate. Thick cut, not overly fatty and had tons of flavour. I would absolutely order this again; I just wish there had been a bit more hollandaise. The server managed to always pop up at the right time for coffee and water refills, and was quick to bring the check when I asked for it. It was fairly loud in the dining room due to the number of people talking and eating, but not a deterrent to go back. I'd just try to join the wait list a bit earlier next time.
