This is a nice restaurant. They have you order online which was time-consuming. Had the brie and fig sandwich and the seafood fettuccine. I enjoyed the fettuccine with lots of salmon and big prawns. It was creamy, but a good value. The sandwich didn't have fresh figs and received blue cheese dressing when ordering honey dill dressing. It was nice to eat outside, but wouldn't rush back. read more

Food: we had some dessert, a hot chocolate, mocha, tea and americano, all were really good and reasonably affordable, lots of non dairy options and some gf options, nice there is the typical cafe snacks but also meals Service: they were extremely busy, so understandable that it is stressful for staff, but that meant food and drink took a very very long time, using the online ordering from the outdoor tables was a really nice idea, but could be more user friendly, and despite putting our table number in comment section, most of our food never got brought to us, kind of defeated the purpose, otherwise when staff were available they were kind! The salmon salad I had was absolutely outstanding. Delicious, fresh, nicely portioned, quality food. That is where they get 5 stars, but the service was so poor, that it dropped it to a 3. There was a HUGE line inside to place orders (this is a place order at the counter and sit down type of place). We saw an open table outside and saw you could order online using a qr code and have it brought to your table. We decided to do this. This was a clunky process and not one that a person from the boomer generation could probably figure out. Anyhoo - we ordered and waited and waited and waited. We never received water or any acknowledgment. I asked an employee if I could at least get the ice tea I ordered and she said it would come out with the meal. Eventually my friends food came out. I sat and watched her eat for 10 minutes before my food came out. Then my food came out. I had to ask several times for my ice tea. I was told "it is in line at the bar". They need to figure out a better system for online ordering if they are going to offer it as a convenience. Paying so much for a glass of ice tea and not even being able to enjoy it with my meal is ludicrous. Anyway. Maybe it was an off day. Go with patience and know the process may be slow. There's usually a long line during weekends and especially summer. Outdoor seating is best cause it gets crowded inside. The chocolate cake is so big and layered. The cookies are large. I had made a review on beatniks not to long ago, and I may seem like a "picky eater" but its mainly because I have a distinct taste in food, and its far from being a picky eater. I'm not just pressing the 2 star all the time, I just like to keep it honest. After the COVID area, this place was still really good, the desserts are and still really good, their is NOTHING wrong with them, I love the chocolate lava cake, brownie's, chocolate cake, scones, etc. Then it comes to the entree's and breakfast. I used to love the breakfast, I would get the Egg's and Bacon/Sausage, Then came the day I returned for the breakfast, and I was left disappointed, MAJORLY disappointed, everything else was ok, normal breakfast, but the hashbrowns were HARD, 50% was cooked and the other 50 was still hard, but I thought the chef was behind or not having a good morning... I was wrong. I came back a couple days later with my Mom, because why not, nice to have some breakfast with a parent, we both ordered the Egg's and Bacon/Sausage, My mom had the bacon and I had the Sausage, The disappointment that we were brought, the bacon was cooked to a crisp, no moisture, just a meaty cracker, the hashbrowns were STILL hard with the same 50/50 ratio of cooked and uncooked. Who was the chef back their obviously had never cooked hashbrowns before or checked to see if they were cooked, because there is no way you can mess hashbrowns up so badly that 50% of them are not even cooked properly. The customer service has been a bit of a mixed experience from all the times I've been their, some times everyone there is friendly and the other times they just don't want to be there, which isn't very friendly and can put customers in bad moods with poor customer service. Didn't get anything to eat or drink since the queue was very long the whole day but got to check out the bookstore portion so I can only speak for that. The ambiance is very sweet and even though the bookstore is quite small, it has a big selection and from what I've seen, it's got most of the most popular books. It also has a variety of games. The aisles are quite narrow and you really have to squeeze to get past someone. Each aisle only really comfortably fit one person. The seat available there is nice to have but it is rather loud on the inside so it could be hard to focus. I didn't see any staff attending to the bookstore section. Worth checking out! read more

This great little cafe' also doubles as a book store. Wendels is a great place to grab a bite to eat on the go, get a good cup of coffee, stop in for brunch or lunch. Service is friendly and it is an interesting venue to shop after your done eating. We had the smoked bacon benny and the blueberry pancakes. Both were delicious. Seating is limited indoors but there are additional tables outside. Their soups and sandwiches are also great! There are a variety of ready-made items as well as menu selections for brunch, lunch, dinner and even some great deserts. Met a friend here for breakfast and truly loved Wendel' which is right in the heart of old Fort Langley. Cafe set within a bookstore or a bookstore set within a cafe - not certain which way but it works! Lots of tables inside and on the deck outside. The staff were super helpful and very friendly. We felt well cared for but not pestered. My friend had the French toast with a tea and I enjoyed the avocado tofu wrap with a latte. My wrap came with the yummiest roasted potatoes. It was very busy in there and we had to wait in line, which for me was very exciting. It was my first time visiting Fort Langley and I didn't do any research before going. I arrived just before lunch time and saw that this bookstore & cafe was very busy. I walked around town first, checked out other restaurants, and went back to this one because it looked like to be the most popular. The only downside to eating at this cafe is all the tables, both indoor and outdoor, are occupied. I had to go back after 1 p.m. I ordered the West Coast Seafood Fettuccine while my friend ordered the Smoked Bacon Cheddar Burger. The food was delivered to us hot and fresh. My friend found the burger to be just the right portion and the ingredients very fresh. I found the same with my pasta. Went on a Saturday night, long wait to order and not a lot of seating inside, but that probably because of COVID policies, which made us feel comfortable being inside so that was good. The grilled cheese was good but a lot, not your average grilled cheese and was almost more of a sandwich than a "grilled cheese" but the flavour was great! The Mac and cheese was simply amazing! The bacon was perfectly cooked, the sauce was creamy and cheesy, the onions added a good flavour and the garlic focaccia on the side was so good! I will definitely be back to try more of their food! Also had the hot chocolate, pretty average hot chocolate, really good but nothing special. Although they were able to make one of the hot chocolates with coconut milk so that was really good of them! This place was very busy on a Sunday. I managed to get a table when I was there. As it was my first meal of the day I decided to go all out. I had the seafood fettuccine, soup and cake with an iced tea. The pasta was ok but the garlic toast that came with it was very nice. That went well with the turkey corn chowder I had. The soup was ok and served in a tiny cup. I really like the bee sting cake and iced tea. The cake reminded me of hummingbird cake which is like carrot cake but has pineapple. This is with almonds. Went for the first time yesterday. Arrived around 11am and there was a line. The place isn't the biggest but the wait for a table was surprisingly not very long. People were courteous enough to leave as soon as they were done eating so other could have a table. They have 4 inside and probably 10 outside; there are three tables at the back that seat two people that I didn't know about until we left. Stuff: - It's in Fort Langley so there's plenty of free parking. - You can grab a table and order online if you don't want to wait in line - Breakfast is served until 11:30am on the weekend - Cash and Card accepted - And yes. There is a small bookstore inside. The food: The person I was with is anti-photo taking and phones at the table, which was quite nice and is something that should be practiced more often. This means no photos of our food, unfortunately. I had the egg burrito and home fries. I'm a big guy and it filled me up. It was dense. Had to be at least 3 scrambled eggs in there. I was very disappointed in the service I received today.. I ordered a tea latte with oat milk as I am very allergic to regular milk. When the server gave me my tea she said " I didn't put oat milk in it, I have to make you another one. She made it sound like it was my fault. I was here for the Cranberry Races during the Fort Langley Cranberry Festival and needed an early breakfast for the day. Wendel's opens at 7.30 am and was almost full by the time I got here at 7.50 am. This place is so cute. Half bookstore (not open when I got there) and half café. There was inside seating for ~20 people and patio seating for maybe ~20 people as well. It was quite cold in the morning and I was reluctant to sit outside, but was happy to find out there were outdoor heaters! I got the Smoked Bacon Benny ($14) - crisp smoked bacon, poached cage free eggs, smoked cheddar, hollandaise sauce, toasted English muffin, Yukon potatoes. Despite having to serve so many people, the food came out quite quickly. The potatoes were nicely spiced. The eggs benny was a bit lukewarm for me. The bacon wasn't very crispy. The eggs were poached perfectly and the hollandaise sauce was one of the best I've ever had. The smoked cheddar didn't really come through. I thought I wouldn't be full from this, but I was stuffed. I would say that if you were looking for a fuller breakfast, get something with toast like the omelette or the eggs with bacon or sausage. I really enjoyed how quaint and cozy this place was. I am so happy my friend introduced me to this cute little cafe. Situated in the downtown area of Fort Langley, sitting on the corner with great patio space and a nice view. I mainly came to try the breakfast menu but unfortunately got there too late so I ordered the westcoast seafood fettuccine, which was define. So much flavour and a big handful of ingredients. Their portions are pretty big so prepare to pack your food to go. What really got me was their garlic bread. I LOVE bread and I could probably eat theirs alone for breakfast, lunch & dinner. My friend ordered the wild salmon & goat cheese salad and it was also filled with flavour & ingredients. A little heavy on the cheese but nothing that can't be pushed to the side. After waking up at 5am stressed and unable to fall back asleep, I headed towards Langley on a whim to drive away the stress. After heading to the river and enjoying the cold morning, I went back into town for breakfast at this interesting looking cafe. The staff are very friendly, the cafe is very cute and the tea is great! I ordered their wild mushroom and spinach hash and was blown away by how good it was. I declined salt and pepper and ketchup and boy am I glad I did. This dish didn't need anything extra. The flavours of the hollandaise with the egg yolk matched so well with the mushrooms and spinach. Next time I am sure to try something else because the obvious care put into cooking my order only makes me more excited for the rest of their menu. Definitely worth making the trip. read more

Each time I come back to Wendel's the more disappointed I am. I was really hoping it was a one off where maybe that day it just wasn't as good. I ordered their double chocolate brownie and raspberry cake to go since Wendel's can get quite busy and there were no spots available to sit. Their desserts are so deceiving. They look so good but are so sweet to a point where we can't eat them. I had made espresso with no sugar or milk and it wasn't able to cut the sweetness of the cake. Extremely disappointed and had to throw them away without even eating half. I think I've given them more than enough chances and am disappointed each time I go. This place is alright. It's quite busy so it took a while just to get my order in. I don't know about their hot food, since I already had brunch at Saba and there aren't many vegan options here. I ended up getting two out of the three vegan pastries offered. Hopefully they'll offer more vegan choices soon! Peanut Butter Bar (4.5/5) This was actually very good. You can even find this bar at Choices Markets in the frozen section. The peanut butter flavour was prominent which was nice, and the shortbread base was slightly crunchy with a good texture as it didn't crumble and fall apart. My only minor complaint is that although the chocolate on top was not overly sweet, it lacked richness and intensity. Chocolate Zucchini Loaf (2/5) This wasn't my favourite. I've never been able to find a good zucchini loaf, which is a little sad. I'll have to keep searching. This one was a little dry and crumbly in texture, with an average flavour. It wasn't sweet at all, which wasn't that big of a deal for me, but if you like sweet things, this one's not for you. read more

Okay the line here is no joke. It's out the door and feels like it takes forever to get to the counter... but then it happens and you feel victorious and then BOOM you're shovelling delicious food into your face. Our order came out in less than 15 minutes. This place is serving tasty meals AND life lessons in patience all at once. The service is prompt and friendly AF. They have lots of veggie options. My husband and I stopped in for breakfast. I had heard this place was good and it happened to be the only place open at the time so we popped in to give it a try. I ordered the wild mushroom and spinach hash and a cappuccino. The cappuccino was well made, and was a fair portion size, a full mug not a tiny cup. The eggs were poached perfectly and had a nice amount of hollandaise on them..... Not swimming in it or anything. The obly thing that held me back from giving 5 stars was that some of the larger potatoes were slightly undercooked. My husband had the avocado Benny and an almond milk latte. He enjoyed both thoroughly. Prices were fair considering Fort Langley is a slight tourist town and things can be over priced. All in all, I highly recommend it and will definitely go back. read more
