It was empty except for 1 table. We weren't given drink menus so upon asking, we were told to use the QR code but it still didn't list wine. The waiter was nice but definitely not in a rush to wait on us. He verbally gave a list on wine by type so they must not be big on wine selection as they had one brand per each varietal. I thought the food was decent, wedge salad was great! My husband isn't eager to return just due to nothing special. I was surprised at the 10.00 charge for a side of creamed spinach. It was in a saucer so very small for the charge. It was okay in flavor but my sil didn't like it and returned it. My four friends and I decided to try Enigma as none of us had been there for years. We were seated at a table that was two feet away from another table filled with people. The waiter was obviously harried and brought water, then ran away. When he returned, he quickly took our order without writing anything down. Our food came 21 minutes later and we didn't see the waiter again for 27 minutes. My friend hailed him as he was waiting on our too close neighbor table. We asked for more water and I then had my first opportunity to say that I had ordered scallops and got lettuce wraps. (I didn't notice until I tasted it.) He shrugged and brought the bills. My friends Steak Special was tough. We were appalled that one waiter appeared to be serving the entire restaurant. Whether the restaurant had trouble finding help or wanted to increase profit by hiring less people, it was a disappointing meal for all of us. The Enigma Restaurant is located in The Rushmore Hotel. We arrived about 15 minutes early for our 6pm reservation. The restaurant looked deserted. We waited for someone, but there was no host or hostess. We continued to wait. Finally we just walked in and found that there were a couple of high backed booths with people enjoying an early dinner. Still, no staff to be found. Finally we saw a guy walk out. He looked our way, but ignored us. He did finally come over after we flagged him down. He offered to seat us at a table, and we asked if we could sit at one of the booths. He acted put out, and said, he needed a few minutes to add a third place setting. Overall, a very poor start to the meal. He brought us menus, water and bread. He asked us if we wanted anything to drink. We asked if they had a cocktail menu. Again, it seemed as if we were putting him through too much trouble. He brought us the cocktail menu and asked if we wanted anything. We had not had the opportunity as yet to look over the cocktail menu which included their specialty drinks, but asked if they had Glenfiddich or Tito's. (Note: no Glenfiddich). His response was "we have vodka, whiskey and stuff," which, of course, did not come close to answering the question. We said we needed more time to look at the cocktail menu. He sighed and said OK. Little did we know that it would be an additional 5+ minutes before he would come back to take our drink order. We ordered a Glenlivet, a martini and a specialty drink, but forget the name. It was basically a Moscow Mule made with tequila. It was very good. A small start to a recovery of the evening. Time to place our order. The waiter asked if we had any questions. I asked how the Brussels Sprouts were prepared on a particular dish. His response was that they only served what was on the menu, nothing else. OK. I get it. No substitutions, but that didn't answer my question. I asked again, and he again said no substitutions. I said that I understand there are no substitutions, but asked how they are prepared. He said he didn't know and stood there. No, I'll find out or let me check. Finally he said again that he didn't know, but they could prepare them any way I wanted. The downward spiral continued. Service is clearly not a skill this guy had or was willing to exhibit, but he is in the service industry. We asked if he recommended anything or favored a particular dish. He said he hadn't tried anything as he'd been too busy. Let's try something simple, like a salad. We asked what dressings they had. Similar to the answer on the spirits question above, his response was, "bleu cheese, ranch, etcetera, etcetera." This guys helpfulness continued to wash over us. We were ready to leave, but did not want to go through the effort to find another restaurant. We were finally able to pull out that they indeed did have balsamic vinaigrette and chose that option. Then we went to order the main. My wife asked if she could leave peas off of the Tortellini dish. The waiter said that was no problem. Ok, so we can omit something. She elected to go with the Bison Bolognese. I went with the Beef Stroganoff and my father went with the Scottish Salmon. All the dishes were actually delicious. Even though the salmon was slightly overcooked, it was still had very good flavor. They had a new menu - only a couple of weeks old according to the waiter. The waiter was the only front of house staff person working that evening. He told us he had to make our drinks as well. He's filling the roles of host, waiter, busboy and bartender. His overall attitude was cocky and he was not the slightest bit service oriented. All this combined, makes for a bad experience. The blame does not lie with the waiter. This is clearly a management issue. They hired this guy. They didn't set expectations or train him properly on how to service their customers. They did not schedule the appropriate amount of staff or properly train the one person they had on point the evening we were there. While the dishes we tried from the new menu were delicious, the overall experience was poor. It's a puzzle why the Enigma management would allow this to occur as they could have a good place here. Until the staffing and service issues are fixed, I would eschew Enigma. read more

UGH! First of all, the hostess asked us if we had a reservation when there were only three other couples in the whole place. To me that seemed kind of rude. Second of all, what kind of restaurant doesn't play background music while you're eating? I'll tell you, Enigma. The name fits the restaurant. Honestly, I was so confused and slightly afraid to talk. It was so quite, I felt like everyone there could hear our conversation. We sat there whispering the whole time. Ok, let's get down to the food. I had the butternut squash ravioli with the truffle oil and sage brown butter sauce. Sounds delicious right? Mediocre. It had a strange taste and I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong. I just knew something didn't go with the other flavors. The dish was appealing to the eye but lacked the cohesive flavors I was so excited about. My boyfriend had the steak and I felt so bad watching him cut off all the fat. He barely had a meal left after he was done. It came with fries which I found strange but they were very good. I believe they had parmesan cheese baked on them. Yum! Really when it comes down to it, the only redeeming quality to this place was the truffle mac and cheese. Absolutely amazing! So creamy with excellent flavor combinations. The only real reason this review gets two stars instead of one. If the place is empty, there's a reason. Head down the road to Murphy's Pub! read more

I've eaten here hundreds of times. The meal we had tonight was our last. We recommended an out of town vendor who wanted to host our office staff bring us here. To put it mildly, we were totally embarrassed. The Elk Tenderloin served to 3 of our party of 9 was 2 ounces, I am not exaggerating. It was an unbelievably small portion. To add insult to injury, they were all over cooked. When the whole table complained to the hostess and server, their reply was, "Take it up wth the food and beverage manager." No offer to refire, no offer to reduce the check, no offer to bring something else. Those of us who didn't order the Elk cut off portions of our meals so the others had something more to eat. Our host said he has never seen a table complain so bitterly and the hostess not offer to do a thing about it. In addition to this the service was slow. Not another table was in the restaurant and it still took over 2 hours to get our entrees. Never, ever, again. They've lost a solid, long-time patron. read more

WOW how many waiters look at the tip IN FRONT OF YOU???? We went to this restaurant, white on vacation and staying at the attached hotel, which was a mistake. We ordered from the "organic" menu...I seriously doubt any of it was organic...maybe the beef but I doubt it. My husband got a gigantic fatty steak (supposed to be a lean cut) on a bed of french fries and I got a decently cooked filet with squished potatoes, supposed to be something fancy but just looked squished. Our kids had grilled cheese sandwiches that weren't very grilled. We eat organic at home, and we were excited to have organic food after 10 days on the road without any organic food...but we were disappointed. The service was minimal, the server came and got our order and finally came back to deliver the meals. He didn't come back to give us water or bread. We finished our dinner, uninterrupted and thirsty, and the waiter brought us back the bill. My husband immediately paid, and the waiter picked up the bill and LOOKED AT WHAT HE WROTE!!!! We stopped in for lunch. It is in a hotel and is quite a bit on the fine dining side. There were the usual business types there for lunch and the ladies groups. I had the Buffalo Burger and my wife had the Rainbow Trout. Both dishes were fixed to perfection and tasted great. The only reason for just three stars was the poor service by our waiter. He did not ask how I wanted the burger cooked or what side I wanted. He was absent most of the time and I had to ask another waitress for ketchup and another server to request that he find my waiter so that I could get my bill. They serve breakfast until 11 AM, we walk in at 10 AM, the hostess says they have already started cleaning up but we can eat if we don't tell anyone what time we walked in. She seats us at a table and then tells us we can only have the leftovers from the buffet, since the kitchen is closing down (an hour early!). We look over at the buffet and there is hardly any food left, none of it fresh looking. We weren't even offered a menu. We have never felt so unwelcome in a restaurant. This was definitely the worst dining experience of everyone in our group. We made a reservation for Mothers Day Brunch and as soon as we walked in we knew we had made a mistake. It was absolutely empty and the service was completely inept. Their menu was a brunch menu of 8 items and when I requested a children's menu for a 6 & 8 year old, I was met with a confused look. It was a complete struggle to request a grilled cheese or an egg instead of an omelet as all requests were denied. They did offer a side of fries to their menu line item of a monte cristo sandwhich, so we asked for the fries and told them to keep the sandwhich. 50% of our 7 orders came out wrong, and the server reached across all party members to deliver plates subsequently knocking over an orange juice all over my niece, my purse and the floor. At this point, there was another table that was seated and when our server left they asked us if they should leave as they had been observing our experience and were equally as horrified as us. I wish I could say the food made up for the horrible service, but unfortunately it was as cold, bland and uneventful as the initial experience. No one clears dirty plates from your table (even though there's a sign telling you that you must get a clean plate for each trip to the buffet). The waiters put on a show and barked about how good their chiefs where. The waiters are very overwhelming and talk a lot. I ordered the steak which was dry and over cooked. The portion for the expensive price was embarrassing. My friend ordered the chicken. They completely forgot about her order when they did bring it out it was completely raw! Not one dish on the table was properly prepared. The veggies on the plate where over cooked and you could tell they were warmed up for the plate. The drinks are expensive and took forever to get refilled. The waiters felt bad about the chicken and offered her another plate she picked the scallops. The Enigma has a Pasta Bar on Thursdays. It is the best pasta you will ever eat. The only problem is, the owner or manager person gets a wild hair up their ass and discontinues it in the summer and then might decide to not have it in the fall, then randomly starts it again. My husband and I have been here three times in the last year. The prices seem high at first but OMG is it worth it?! The food (different meals each time) is amazing! Cooked great and looks great! Tastes even better. The appetizers are awesome and the desserts... My favorite is the icecream with black pepper on it! Sounds odd but so good! We love this place! Every time our server was Joel and I am so happy we get him (I'm sure all the staff is just as friendly) but he was the most stand out server I've ever had. When a restaurant presents a menu that sounds like 5 star, organic, farm-to-table experience, they should be able to deliver, especially if the prices are as high as Enigma's. The service here is very, very slow. 1 hour and 15 minute wait for food and when we ordered there were only two occupied tables in the whole restaurant. The vegetables were overcooked and the burger (I was not asked how I would like it cooked) was quite rare and not very warm. The Asian lettuce wrap meal honestly looked like someone had poured frozen veggies out of a bag and sauteed it with soy sauce. Over cooked and not appetizing. Their prices are too high not to get their food and service spot-on. Definitely would not go back. I will say though, that my friend said her dessert was awesome and it did look beautiful. read more

Wish I could give zero stars, but Yelp won't allow. My husband made a reservation for my birthday dinner. When we arrived, the hostess seemed surprised we were there. The place was about about 1/3 full. We were told we would have to wait for a booth, so we agreed to sit at a table. Then we had to wait another 5 minutes while the hostess disappeared. We were finally seated, and the hostess explained that she was able to clear a booth for us, so we sat at a table for another 5 min. looking at a menu. Then we were moved to a booth. We sat for 15 more min, and no one came to take an order. Waiters walked by us several times and never even glanced at us. Then the hostess came over and stated that someone would be with us shortly. In a restaurant priced as this one is, and for that matter, ANY restaurant, this level of customer service is unacceptable. We got up and left at that point, and the hostess saw us and when we said we were leaving, she didn't seem to care. Don't waste your time! Horrible. read more
