Shortly after we arrived it got very busy. The waitstaff were very welcoming and helpful. We were seated and received our drinks in several minutes. They had great live music but was right in my ear. We are there for lunch on a Friday. Food was ok, nothing spectacular. The staff was nice and service was fairly quick. We had someone with a shellfish allergy that they weren't able to accommodate because they do not have a dedicated fryer for shellfish. read more

BEWARE - while checking our receipt pricing, it didn't match the menu pricing! The menu says salad was $10 but we were charged $12. Added chicken menu price $4, we were charged $5! This is fraudulent! How much money are they making in customers that don't check the receipts. With hundreds of customers per day their fraudulent profits could amount to thousands of dollars every day, certainly every week! We enjoyed the special of the day- fish tacos- you get two in a meal and while they may look simple and boring they had great flavor. The walleye was fried crispy and tasted fresh and mild. They had great crispy fries and an awesome appetizer platter. For the app combo you get 3 choices and we did the fried pickles, mushrooms and jalapeño poppers- all delish!!! The poppers had more of a pimento cheese vs the traditional cream cheese and were great in their own way. The crisp on all apps did not disappoint which is great bc pickles and shrooms can tend to get soggy and watery. Give this place a try if you're in town. We came to Shipwrecks largely because it was close to Hart Rv Park and allowed us to bring our dog onto the patio. The owners bought it two years ago, and were present and helpful both nights we went. They even have a dog menu. It is an older building, very clean, very attentive staff. The food was all good, especially the burger and the Rueben sandwich. Both large portions! Even the side salad with French dressing was nicely done. There was guitar music on the patio one night. Tried this place out for lunch- wings were good (nothing out of the ordinary), taco soup which was super good but definitely on the heartier side, breaded mushrooms, and for my entree I chose the chicken salad croissant with sweet pot fries. I'm no rookie to chicken salad croissants so I shouldn't have expected much, but it was an okay chicken salad at best. The chicken was super shredded which I'm not that big of a fan of, and the Mayo base was VERY sweet. Overall, a good place to stop by if you're not in the mood for anything specific. DISCLAIMER: i got the salad to be healthy on the road, and i guess in retrospect that was unwise? Regardless, this review is specifically for the salad I got the Shipwreck Salad with "Grilled Beef" (see photo because i don't need to describe it). correct me if i'm wrong, but when i ordered a salad with grilled beef, i expected to open my container to slices of beef grilled on a stove laid out on healthy salad. nope. it was just grease, crunchy ground beef, and lettuce. they did not drain or skim excess fat so the "bed of lettuce" was drenched with ground beef GREASE. people and service were nice but the food felt like it was false advertisement because grilled beef is not ground beef. this is the first time i've eaten somewhere and thought "this place is not consumable for humans". if this is still on your menu, please correct your menu to reflect the actual product that people are ordering. read more

** Uodate: we enjoyed this place so much that we went back the next day. They forgot the bacon on two of our shipwreck burgers and one of the employees was walking around swatting flies on the tables, one table right next to me. I could've counted the holes in the swatter he was so close. The food was still good, but the missing bacon was a disappointment and the fly swatting was disturbing and gross. Staff was friendly & polite. --------------------------------------------------- We found this place on Yelp and then found a coupon on Restaurant.com, so we decided to give it a try it. I'm sorry, I should've taken pictures beforehand, but forgot to. My daughter got the shrimp dinner and absolutely loved it and said it was amazing. She is a very picky eater. My other daughter got the bacon cheeseburger l, who never finishes her food, wanted to keep eating it. She even left 1/3 of her $32 steak at The Game Lodge, the night before. My husband and I both got the Shipwreck Burger. We substituted green peppers with jalapeños in the sautéed onions and peppers. The burger was HUGE! They were a hefty 1/2 pound, juicy and well cooked. We've had several burgers on our vacation and this was by far THE BEST ever. The picture of the poppers was after they were half eaten and the same with the burger. Trust me, it was all awesome! The outstanding food and excellent service more than makes up for it being next to a busy road since we dined on the patio there was some road noise. The food is 95% all homemade and the wait staff was very accommodating with any special requests. Additionally if you need to stay the owner also owns a couple nearby homes that our waitress told us are bed-and-breakfast. Since we're visiting in the area, I always use Yelp to help me decide where to eat at, and I always go to certain restaurants based on their reviews. This restaurant had high reviews, so I had high expectations. Immediately upon pulling up, I could tell that this restaurant was older and more of a hole-in-the-wall. That doesn't bother me usually because that could mean it's more of a local hang out, which is what we were going for. Upon entering, I was met with the same interior as the exterior, a little bit shabby, comfortable, older, not too clean, and not too dirty. I could tell this was a local hang out by the way people were interacting with each other as well as the servers. It seemed to me like the locals gave us the stink-eye, and I'm not quite sure why. We definitely got some unfriendly glances, and that was disconcerting. One of the servers told us to seat ourselves, so we did. They then took about seven minutes to get to us for a drink order, which is longer than I am used to. However, the server that we had was extremely friendly. He got us our drinks promptly once we ordered, gave us plenty of time to look at the menu, and then took our order correctly and pleasantly. I wish I knew his name so I could give him a shoutout. My dad and uncle split the fish and chips, and my mom and I split the surf and turf special. I have to admit the food was really good, and the steak that we had on our special was absolutely delicious! I'm not much of a steak person, but the flavor, texture, the way it was cooked, everything was great. We ended our dinner having a more pleasant experience than when we first started, so that was good. Overall, I am glad that we gave this place a chance; personally, I do not think I will be going back unless someone I am with wants to go. As we were traveling back to our RV from the Bear Country USA We stopped in the local spot to check it out. We were met by the bartender, Brooke, who was such a nice young lady. Sara and I shared some fried pickles and had something to drink and talked to Brooke about some local stuff that goes in around Rapid City. Great spot. The atmosphere is very old school local yokei. I visited last summer. I love what the new owners have done with the place. The menu is so fresh and the wine and beer options are well curated. Great family owned business. They are so friendly and attentive. It's a great spot for both locals and visitors. They feature live entertainment and have a great selection of musicians for their gorgeous outdoor patio. This place was great and just the experience we were looking for. Kwane was our waiter and he was awesome! My husband and I split an order of steak tips with tater tots on the side, and also an order of onion rings. Everything was great and plentiful and we were not able to finish it all. I have to admit though that I am unable to eat much and was unable to help much in the "clean your plate" category. We visited on a Saturday night and they had some live music while we were there, which was exactly the atmosphere we were looking for. I gave them a 3 because the server was super nice and instead of a cod lunch they did us a favor and switched it out for walleye. However, the walleye was super fishy tasting and being from North Dakota we tend to judge walleye a little harder (ours is never fishy). Our food was ok. Service was extremely slow but this is over a year into Pandemic times, and staff is hard to find right now. It's a hard time to review but keep that in mind. We saw good reviews and some of our food was better than others, but we had a party of 4 adults and 2 kids so we did try a few things. Black and blue type burger was basic but not bad. Walleye bites were small serving and not a lot of fish. Draft beer was good... again, mid Summer in a touristy area on a Friday night when places are starting to get going again and unemployment is an issue... it was fair considering all of that.
