It's been awhile since I wrote a very honest and heartfelt review regarding our experience with Chris' music program. I have seen his response and decided to set the record straight. Yes, there are two sides to every story, and Chris always thinks his is correct. I feel that Chris may be confusing me with someone else, as I did not have a follow up cordial conversation with him (at least not on his part). I was nothing but kind to Chris all along. Kids get sick. Chris just wanted "different" students and wanted to open up space for them. Nonetheless, my student DID in fact take a break, and then we found the most amazing piano teacher ever, right in our neighborhood. This teacher is well trained, in high demand and plays throughout the community and beyond. I am very grateful that we left Chris; otherwise, life wouldn't have brought this new excellent teacher into our lives as not only a teacher but a friend. I wish Chris nothing but the best. It's unfortunate he chose to try to twist the facts, but not surpised. Happily moved on. read more

I have been taking piano lessons with Chris at Enjoy Music Lessons for almost a year now. I highly recommend! The lessons started off in-person, and have evolved into virtual lessons as a result of COVID-19. This format has made lessons very easy. No commute time! When we began, Chris evaluated my current skill level and recommended I start with a first level music book to work on the fundamentals. During the lessons, Chris provides meaningful feedback, shares resources on games that can help with intervals, memorizing notes, and other fundamentals. (I am in my 30's and enjoy the games just as much, or more, than somebody younger :)) This has all strengthened my skill-set over time. Chris also asks for my feedback on songs I am interested in learning. He has taught me some key elements of improv, as well as songs from the Beatles, the Styx, John Legend and other musicians. He also responds to questions along the week. I always look forward to learning the next song, and working with Chris as he provides valuable feedback! read more

We highly recommend Chris and Enjoy Music Lessons. My two children, ages 6 and 9 have taken piano lessons with Chris for almost 2 years. I have seen their confidence and enjoyment with playing piano grow significantly in a short time. Chris tailors the lessons to fit their individual needs/levels and despite being new to music lessons, my kids were able to participate in a recital within their first year. Both kids enjoyed the experience and were excited to share their progress with a broader audience. Chris is supportive and patient but holds my kids accountable for practicing and pushes them to do their best. He also encourages them to choose songs they are interested in which has increased their love for playing piano. The rates are reasonable, especially given the level of high-quality instruction. My boys have been taking piano lessons with Chris for over 5 years. When my boys first started they had little experience with music and let alone playing the piano, as they grew, my boys went through various learning phases; exploratory, reluctant, and at times even uninterested. I had to always ask them to practice and do their homework. Fast forward, my boys are now teens and absolutely love playing the piano. My eldest is even looking to pursue a music composition major and is taking an AP Music Theory class of which Chris is his tutor. With my little one, Chris keeps him interested by writing the notes of popular TV shows like Steven Universal, Regular Show, and also pop music. We wholeheartedly recommend Chris as a music teacher; he is calm, consistent, reliable, and dedicated. I love that he taught my boys not just how to play the piano but most importantly how to read music. He also plays different music games with the boys, such as ear training, which they love. I have 3 children who currently take lessons and they really enjoy working with Chris. He not only teaches theory, but also encourages them to play music they like listening to on the radio. He arranges the music that is level appropriate, yet sounds like the actual song. They even play along when the songs come on. Our oldest son likes to make beats on our Mac and Chris is great at teaching him Garage Band. He is teaching him how to arrange the different instruments and sounds, it's pretty cool to watch him develop this new skill. My 2 daughters (9 and 6 yrs) and I have been taking piano lessons from Sarah for a few months now, and she continues to motivate and inspire us! There are so many aspects I appreciate about her instruction. To name a few, Sarah is genuinely interested in what we would like to learn and selects pieces highly aligned with our skill level and interests (Disney songs for the 6-yr-old, interesting classics for the 9-yr-old, and simple Beethoven arrangements for me!). Also, she takes the time to teach and explain the theory, which greatly helps us apply learnings from one song to the next. Sarah graciously travels to our home every week to teach us, which simplifies our busy schedules. Most importantly, she is so much fun to be with and learn from - so sweet, talented, and such a positive role model!! I'm excited about the annual concert Sarah and Chris organize for her students - my girls are too! They have come surprisingly far since Sarah started teaching them; I can see their confidence and interest grow with each lesson. My daughter has been taking piano lessons with Chris for seven months now. She and I are very happy with him. He is very patient, flexible, kind, knowledgeable and understanding. Although there have been times when it would be understandable if he did (my daughter did not put much effort on her homework almost two weeks in a row), Chris has never shown frustration or made my daughter feel bad. The first time he said it was okay because she was always a good student. The second time, he just told her of the importance of practicing and showed her how, if she learns the basics very well, she could play more advanced songs (I don't remember which ones he showed her, but she got very excited about them). After that, she has been doing much better and she really enjoys practicing and learning her songs. What I like the most is that I myself have learned some music theory and piano just by attending lessons with her and helping her do her homework and practice. She teaches me some things here and there, too. She just loves it. I am very happy that I found Chris because he and his wife have the best rates in the area, and he is a great teacher. I am looking forward to having my other two children take piano lessons with him and his wife once they are old enough. My son has been learning piano with Sarah for the past 4 months and I am very pleased with the progress he's making! Sarah really understand children and knows how to bring up their interest. At the first month, we started with a 30- minute session. My son loved it and everyday when he came home from school, he would be eager to practice the songs that he learned from previous lessons. He also likes the "Piano Dust Buster" that Sarah introduce, which is a piano video game that helps to enhance kid's interest and reinforce their practice. As we progress, my son request longer session from 30 to 45 minutes and now a one hour session, which he totally enjoys and allows him to learn more in faster pace. I also appreciate the annual recital that Sarah organize for all of her students. The recital take place in June, and my son just started in March. Sarah knows what song to pick for my son to match his level, that way it won't be overwhelm to him but keep him motivated. Thanks for Sarah's strategy, my son did well on his first recital in just 3 months after he started. Now my son is very confident on playing piano and he look forward the next recital next year to take on more challenge songs and continue to explore the music wonderland! My daughter, Evie has been taking piano lessons with Chris for about 4 months now. Evie was seven years old when she asked if she could take piano lessons. We chose Enjoy Music Lessons because they offer flexible scheduling, good rates, and provide the option of either "in-home" lessons or "at-studio" lessons. Since we started, we couldn't be happier. We have chosen the "at-studio" option so that there are no distractions during lesson times. The site is located conveniently in Thousand Oaks at Chris and Sarah's home. The studio has a side entrance and is setup with an upright piano. There is a couch in the studio to allow me to stay and listen during the lessons. The lessons are 30 minutes and start out pretty simple. After each lesson homework is given that includes playing, reading music, and theory lessons. Evie went from never playing to being able to read musical notation and play songs requiring both hands, in just a few months. Chris has also taught Evie's songs of her choosing. Evie has truly enjoyed learning piano from Chris. We highly recommend Enjoy Music Lessons for anyone who wants to learn to play a new instrument. read more

My son's been with Chris for piano for 6 years now, after an unsuccessful start at another music school. The other school was just doing 'rhythm' lessons for 5 year olds, not recognizing any intrinsic ability in their young charges. My son proved to be a quick learner on piano, and we are quite pleased with the progress made under Chris. In particular, we didn't want to do the constant testing that had made piano stressful for my daughter at the other school, and so Chris has simply taught our son without 'teaching to the test', and our son's done great and most importantly he really enjoys playing. This is not to say that Chris puts up with goofing off; he insists on practice and punctuality so the operation runs smoothly, but manages to not come off like a movie piano teacher - no rulers on knuckles here! He manages to be strict-ish, without losing his temper or scaring anybody. I have no hesitation in recommending Chris. read more

Chris has been teaching piano to our two kids for at least 5 years now! He was a lucky find. He is incredibly kind and patient and clearly enjoys his job. He has made my life easier because he comes to my house weekly to teach, so I don't have to drive more! My kids started from scratch, so we've seen him teach from the basics... but we also had a friend in town who wanted to learn music theory, and more advanced stuff (a friend who never had formal training, but who taught himself and was really good) and Chris had no problem teaching at his level, and what he wanted to learn. Our friend was thrilled to have a week of class with Chris. His style is not focusing on 'classical music". Rather he really wants kids to enjoy what they are playing, so often they choose what they want to play (after learning the basics), as well as ultimately giving them the ability to create songs themselves. (At least that is how he teaches my children!) He puts on a yearly recital with all his students for the parents. They each play two songs, a solo and a duet with him. Sarah has been our daughter's piano teacher for more than 3yrs. She's a great piano teacher. We absolutely enjoy her presence every time we see her. She's really patient, kind, and very accommodating. For a while, we used to go to her to drop off our daughter for piano lessons. Ever since we moved to a new location, Sarah has offered her services to come to us, to our new home. Also, the other great reasons why we like Sarah as our private music instructor is that she have different methods of teaching our daughter both classical and modern ways of learning music.
