Being one of the first nice…read morespring days in PA, the path was quite active with dogs, walkers, runners, and even a bike passed during our brief visit. Six miles of asphalt trail surround Lake Galena. It is handicapped friendly. Plenty of benches along the path to sit and watch the water activities. We will be back later in the season to check out the wooded trails. We took a short walk then drove around to the other side where there were pavilions and a nature center whcih I will discuss in a separate review. From our brief visit, this Doylestown park has a lot to offer. Fishing, boating, picnicking, birdwatching and more. We will be back for sure to explore more.

There is a big loop around the lake that my dogs and I took, which is nice because it's a good walk without being too long or too short and you don't need to turn around. Lots of winding path areas so you feel pretty secluded. If you have reactive dogs you can easily step aside in many areas to let others pass. I'm excited to bring my dogs back here.

This park has: - a gravel parking lot with portable toilet - paved trails - fenced-in playground - a small lake with fountain (I've seen people fish here) - large gazebo with outdoor grill available for reservations - doggy bags for your furkid - wooded trail area in back of the park All-in-all, an awesome place for families. If you want your small children to nap, then have them walk up the steps to the slides a dozen times. There is a nice variety of playground equipment for all ages including swings, a 3 person seesaw, spinning/ climbing thing, etc. All the equipment has a castle theme which is super cute. I love that the entire playground is fenced in with fences high enough that young kids definitely cannot get over. The fencing around the steps/ platforms for the slides is also super safe to prevent falls. I feel totally comfortable letting my kids walk up and slide down by themselves while I wait at the bottom. Bathrooms nearby are better than most playgrounds. The only downside is that there isn't a lot of shade. Some benches are shaded but none of the playground equipment is shaded so you feel like you're baking on a hot day. There are covered benches at the entrance of the playground for parents. But your kids will have so much fun that they'll barely notice how hot they are.

Good spot, easy to forget it's still in the city…read more I've been here a handful of times, usually after work or on weekends when I need to get outside for a bit. Once you're on the trails it gets surprisingly quiet. Like, noticeably quieter than you'd expect from somewhere still technically inside Philadelphia. The paths are mostly flat gravel so it's not a hard walk at all. I tend to stop on the boardwalks and just look out over the marsh for a few minutes. Last time there were a few turtles lined up on a log, and I'm pretty sure I spotted a couple of herons near the water too. You do hear planes since the airport's close by, but it doesn't really bother me. Kind of adds to the strangeness of the place in a way I actually like. One thing worth knowing: the mosquitoes are no joke. I skipped bug spray once and regretted it pretty quickly. If you're going in summer, just bring some, especially if you're planning to hang around near the water.

I struggle with the trash in the marshes, I am not sure if it is the wind picking it up but I hope there can be more effort cleaning up. It was also extremely sad to see the turtles covered in oil which seems like pollutants from the water. Nonetheless, the trails are nice to walk on. The trails have no elevation but are nicely graveled.

The summer music concerts are always a blast - bringing in people from all over, food truck, and showcasing local bands. If you live locally it may be worthwhile but the drive for me was such a waste of my time for what this was. Ready? It's a: Big Wooden Castle Yep, that's it, folks. A gigantic version of that swingset-clubhouse combo you bought at Costco only to rot in your backyard because spiders and rain made it so unpleasant for kids that they refuse to use it. It's that creepy clubhouse times 30! It's pretty much a regular playground with most kids swarming the swings and other play features with a few venturing into the old wood play structure. They go in once and don't go back in again. My son was cursed at by older boys (who appeared beyond the age guidelines and I was surprised to see them still interested in a playground), and banged his head when inside the dark dank structure there was suddenly an unmarked (unlit) drastic change in ceiling height. Needless to say this experience was a turn off. It was fun to see friends and we enjoyed the togetherness of the play date but unless I'm in the area and desperate for a kid distraction, I won't be back.

Hard to rate an entire park this massive, but all things considered, after 5 years of traversing the trails here, this is an awesome park. Note that I live in U-City, so the fact that such a massive trail system exists in only a ~20 minute drive, depending on which part of the park I start in, is a blessing and keeps my sanity. Friends of Wissahickon does a great job maintaining trails and even expanding the system over the past few years. I don't think I've ever observed an unseemly part of the park. Definitely unseemly times of year like the snow thaw or the time between the trees dying and the snow falling, but otherwise, this park is beautiful all times of year. I've never had a hard time parking, never even had trouble with crowds even around the most popular trails (ex. Forbidden Drive). Even the bikers are friendly and patient here! Would strongly recommend not only visiting but coming back to keep exploring! I'm still finding new gems in this massive trail system.

Today I decided to switch things up and take a trip to Valley Green in Wissahickon Park, Philly…read more I've always heard about Devil's Pool but had never been, so when I saw the trailhead, I figured--why not check it out? What I've known about Devil's Pool is that it's been a popular hangout spot, especially for teens and young adults--swimming, drinking, smoking, etc. But I wasn't prepared for how disappointing the trail would be. At nearly every turn, there was trash--plastic bottles, wrappers, and even entire black garbage bags just left behind. The closer I got to Devil's Pool, the worse it got. There are clear signs asking visitors to take their trash with them, yet so many clearly don't. It's really disheartening to see such a beautiful natural space disrespected like that. Instead of feeling peaceful or connected to nature, it honestly felt a bit unsanitary and neglected. Wissahickon Park deserves better. If you visit, please respect the space and take out everything you bring in.

Stunning views of Lake Nockamixon!! I came here to connect…read morewith my home away from home which is good ole mother nature! I decided to participate in a 3 mile moonlit hike which was hosted by our lovely park ranger Rachel. Lake Nockamixon is a large park with multiple hiking trails. Our partucular trail was paved with color poles to let us know we were on the right path. Throughout our walk we were able to gaze in the sky and see the stars and other constellations. There's also benches and two spacious parking lots. Lake Nockamixon also is a great relaxing place to go fishing and moon gazing! I look forward to returning!

We try to go in the spring and fall to avoid the crowds. It's empty during the winter but so peaceful and beautiful. Don't miss the marina area, especially in April when the Purple Martins come to nest. Fascinating. Nature is so important. We must take care of our earth.
