We took our 13 year old daughter in to Lila Wilson for a checkup, and found out she needed a filling. Lila filled it same day, and then came out to consult with us IN THE WAITING ROOM, where there was no privacy!! After more than a week, the filled tooth was still painful, and we scheduled a follow up appointment. Lila said my daughter must just have "sensitive teeth," and that there was nothing she could do about it. After several weeks of continuing pain, we decided to get a second opinion. Come to find out that Lila had overlooked a gap that she left in the filling, which was leading to my daughter's pain. My daughter was never afraid of the dentist until her experience at Lila Wilson's office.

Normally, I don't review unless the business is superior. Normally, I just move on if I don't like…read morethe service or interaction. However, in this case, I believe it is incumbant upon me to provide a review. I've been a patient of Dr. Tom Mullen's since he bought the business from the previous owner 30 years ago. Dr. Mullen is personable and skilled, but over the years, I've noticed quite a lot of personnel changes. A few years ago, I lost my insurance, and his wife Emily who runs the office would not even allow me to come in for teeth cleaning, much less get dental care because I had Partnership. When I got Delta, I went back in for a crown. The disrespect and disdain was still present. But as I said, I just overlooked it. The crown had some difficulty staying affixed and after repeated visits, it appeared to be solved. Each visit seemed to increasingly irk Emily. Some months later, the crown came off again and the office was closed for several weeks for family vacation. Upon opening, I made an appointment, but they couldn't get me in for three weeks in the afternoon. The day before the appointment, the crown came off and broke. When I came in, all they did was take xrays, and attempt to put me out another three weeks. I expressed my frustration of having this long delay (as it takes 10 min to re-cement a crown) contribute to breaking of the crown, and nothing but film and another three weeks of delay. Emily became exceptionally rude and yelling, told me that my comments about their delay were unwelcome, that it was my tooth's fault, that they didn't need my business, and that my insurance Delta was awful and no other dentist would take it. Her husband approached and offered to do it during his lunch as the earliest opportunity, which was very gracious, and in the midst of telling him he didn't need to give up his lunch, Emily interjected and screamed "That's exactly what you asking him to do." The day of the appointment, Emily went back to tell the staff and Dr. Mullen that I was there, and stated "I hope you enjoy not having a lunch today." Tom and the staff all laughed their derisive laugh. To date, the crown is still affixed, but if you have any self-respect, go elsewhere, like most of the staff have done.

You can tell he treats his staff well as everyone seems to like their job and the place has a nice vibe. Never thought going to the dentist could be a pleasant experience. My only fear is he may one day retire and I will be cast back among the sad and desperate souls with broken teeth, bad gums and nowhere to go. Plus they give good restaurant recommendations. Dr Smith is terrific with a keen therapeutic touch and does all he can with diseased teeth to take…read morethe pain away in doing the work (for me a root canal) that was later packed with resin (light hardened) by the referring Dentist. I stay away from Mercury-Silver fillings. With that said, it was necessary for me to take about 12 to 14 individual x-rays (including a full skull scan). This was done by the dental tech (one of 7 other staff ladies varies in age, all pretty and petite). There is one person to greet patients, another to check them out, another to answer the phone, another to work insurance, on and on it goes - how many staff are there - just for one doctor who can only put his hands into one mouth at a time. Some of the x-rays were duplicates as they were not placed in the correct anatomical tooth location to begin with (she claimed) and then the follow on x-ray was also identical. The next one was crooked (she claimed) and had to be taken again. Then the next one had to have a darker contrast per DMD request. I lost track of the excuses for the - what they considered necessary diagnostic tools - to be sure the root canal was properly done. If you LOVE x-rays this is the place for you. I do not have that love for being radiated with a poison repeatedly .. and would see another highly trained DMD if I was paying for it. This was a required visit by my insurance provider so i had no choice in the matter - except to pay for it my self .. which if I had to do over again .. I would make the medical intervention at my own financial hardship. My caution is not for the professional performance of the Doctor but of the support staff .. their profession performance is lacking. As is the Human Condition .. every one is neurotic (sad sickness) - addicted - and in dysfunctional relationship issues. Though it is rare there are Psychiatrist Medical Doctors who have sex with their patients and make up the 1 % of therapists who do that behaviour ... replicating the injury of the patients childhood and driving the disease deeper into the Defense Structure making it harder to come out for healing ... as they find a therapist who will not violate that therapeutic boundary. Dental tech -- Inhalation therapy -- physical therapists -- nurses -- EMT -- Paramedics -- all of them have to do the work like every one else in fixing the Human Condition in being neurotic - addicted - and still in the prison of their fears having dysfunctional relationship issues. Since they are working in healing .. and with Patients .. the OATH .. 'is to do no harm'. Which a clumsy heavy handed blind mistake prone intervention on a patient is suppose to be a clue .. hey - you still screwed up babe.
