We were unable to enjoy many sections of our trip plan due to a low car that was unable to go any further than paved roads. This is totally UNACCEPTABLE. I called the Alamo 800 number to advise them that I would not be picking the van up on the 21st but would be in on the 22nd. Was told by the rep that their policy does not permit that & the whole reservation would be cancelled. I offered to pay up front for the rental, again advised that this was not possible. Luckily I found the local Montrose number for Alamo and Carlton(branch manager) told me that not to worry & the van would be waiting for me upon arrival on the 22nd. Great customer service by Carlton! My advise: never call the 800 number for Alamo. Go local!

I went to the rental desk at the time we said we would be coming with all of my confirmation documents, but lo and behold there were NO cars. This is completely unacceptable but the response we got from the employees was even worse. There is no excuse to not have a car ready when we have already paid for it. There is no excuse for the company and employees to not try to remedy the situation by contacting another company. The options given to me were that we could wait for at least three hours and a car might show up, or we could check with the other rental companies to see if they had something. It is not my duty to wait at the airport. It is not my duty to negotiate a new rental. The staff at Alamo, including the manager who was not on site and could only be contacted by phone, was utterly useless and even seemed irritated with our frustrations. Mind you, this was not just my problem, there were many more people who did not get their cars from Alamo that day. Skip the headache, go to Budget. They are actually helpful. And they have cars.

I made a reservation a week and a half early for a rental while my car was in the repair shop…read morethrough my insurance. I attempted to call multiple times the week prior to confirm that they would be picking me up from the body shop as that is what my confirmation directly from Hertz stated they would do. I was never able to get anyone to answer the phone. The day of, I dropped my car off at the body shop and had to get a ride from the shop to the airport to get the rental since they never showed up or answered the phone. When I got to Hertz at 8:30am they refused to talk to me about my reservation until 9am despite the fact that their hours are posted as opening at 8:30. Once they would acknowledge me at 9 they then told me that they had no car for me. I explained that I had a reservation and even have multiple email confirmations. He said "yeah our system will let you book it but that doesn't mean we will have a car for you". I'm pretty sure thats exactly what a confirmation should mean. So I was stranded with my two children and had to call a friend to pick us up. Not only did they not fulfill my reservation but they were quite rude in the way they spoke to me. I added the photos but do you really want to see them. Probably not. The customer service rep, though busy, was quick to switch me out to another car. So long to my BMW. Car two only had a crack in the windshield that no one noted. I got that signed off and I'm out of there. So when booking here be sure you have a reservation and carefully inspect the cars.

It was half the price of U-Haul and even less than a car rental for a one way rental. Interesting to note that I can rent a $45,000 truck with my debit Visa card from Budget, but Hertz won't let me rent a car valued less without a regular credit line credit card.
