The good: We love the auto check in/out via the app and the room key on the phone. The room was very clean. TV programming was good. The bad: I know this is probably a personal preference but the mattress was as hard as a rock and my hip bones dug into it so much it caused an arthritis flareup. I had to remember to take two advils before I could get any sleep. The pillows were both extremely soft and both felt like a sack of socks that had been rolled up into donuts. You could stack all four together and your head would sink down to the mattress. By the time we checked out on day 3, I was absolutely exhausted. We went to our next hotel, an IHG about 3 hrs away, Pillowtopped mattress and a soft and firm pillow waited for me. I took a two hour nap there! Holy cow Hampton. I hope my next experience with you is better or it will be more last. read more

$300 a night for this place? We're Diamond members and this place smells like smoke all through the hallways and we constantly hear people stomping in the halls and floor above us. Rooms are very outdated and no view from the room at all. We do not recommend this hotel to anyone traveling through for a good experience. read more

I'm kicking myself for not staying at the Fairfield this time. Communication and hospitality has been few and far between here for the same price as a decent hotel. Every time I've had to go to the front desk I've felt like I was a burden. The parking lot is dodgy and poorly lit if you're not using the main entrance, with no side walk for your luggage or to be out of the street. also wouldn't recommend this hotel for families with kids. We spent a limited amount of time in the lobby to get out of the room and were made to feel more than unwelcomed and went back to our tiny room. The shower is tiny and outdated and it's more than clear the owners have chosen the cheapest option for every "amenitiy" to maximize profit. I asked to have my room turned down not being aware of their "low par housekeeping in exchange for additional amenities" which is weird because there are no other amenities? This hotel certainly is "self service". They served green ham, potatoes and dehydrated eggs for their continental breakfast. With cold cereal, no milk and old bread. Save yourself the head ache and stay somewhere else. read more

This hotel is functional with no closet or luggage rack in the room. I don't care about irons or ironing boards so that didn't bother me. They had a hair dryer which was good and an exhaust fan in the bathroom. Three floors with a gym and pool area. I didn't see the gym so I can't rate it. Two computers in the business nook. A little convenience corner and beverages available even when we returned later in the evening. So I grabbed a hot chocolate. I liked the modern spare built in decor of our room. A shelf for your bag or to sit on and open shelves for your stuff. There was a weird open space next to the bed where I felt something should have been but the room felt large. Nice amount of counter space in the bathroom. Good water pressure. Bed was firm but I like firmer beds and the pillows better than at the other hotel we stayed in. The cons are there was some kind of work going on next door and it was so noisy. And at 6am the garbage truck woke me up. It's not a place for quiet that's for sure. Yoko, an employee there, left a note she decorated stating she had cleaned our room before our stay. And she did a good job so kudos to her. Breakfast was laid out in an amusing manner with jokes on signage. The eggs were better than most hotel breakfasts I've had and there was a selection of juices and toppings for your oatmeal or waffles. And they refilled the bacon as it was gone. Better than the other hotel in that sense too where they didn't read the crowd to know people were still coming to breakfast and it was within the advertised time. The server was also polite. They had to go bags of breakfast for you to grab if you didn't have time to sit and eat. Parking was included in your stay and special spaces for diamond members. There was an event in their conference room with an outside entrance for attendees. It's a functional hotel and good for our nights stay. Less one star for noise. read more

First, the person staffing the counter when we arrived was professional, but not at all welcoming or warm as have been most staff at other Hampton Inns. When I walked in, she just stared at me (I was wearing a mask and she was not, but I have no idea if this was the issue). She didn't ask if she could help me or say welcome or hello. I finally said we're checking in. She asked my name, and I handed her my ID and a credit card. She gave us our room key cards (one of which didn't work), and that was it. The room was clean but a bit dated (being dated is NOT an issue). It was on the first floor, and unlike all other Hampton Inns we've visited, there were no sheers. We could let everyone outside in the lot look in, or we could sit in blackout darkness (with lights of course). Plenty of towels, fridge, no microwave, closet with real hangers and luggage rack, one desk chair and a nice desk, 2 dressers, TV, plenty no outlets both AC and USB, comfortable beds. What a lovely hotel. We were greeted with a helpful and kind lobby receptionist when we first arrived into Montrose on a late night. The hotel was really clean and took extra precautions to help keep the visitors safe and healthy. The free breakfast is in the form of a brown sack lunch, it's not as good as the hot breakfast but I'm grateful they are still offering this for us during COVID-19. Nice hotel. Very helpful staff. Rooms were clean. Place was quiet. Covid precautions were followed. Continental breakfast had the usual these days. I stayed here for one night and had a good experience. The lobby was beautiful, and they had freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and fruit-infused water waiting, which was a nice beginning to our stay after a long day on the road. They also have hot coffee available at all hours of the day and night that tasted good enough to satisfy this coffee snob! The room was pleasantly cool when I walked in - it was clear that they hadn't turned off the AC that morning just to save money. The beds are comfortable, with many fluffy pillows. The bathroom was spacious and seemed very clean, with a large shower. The breakfast area has plenty of seating, and it wasn't hard to find a table even at 8am. They offer free breakfast from 6-10am with excellent food choices including oatmeal, waffles, cereal, sausage, eggs, pastries, and fresh fruit (pineapple and cantaloupe slices). I'm subtracting one star because the pool and fitness room were both pretty small. Additionally, the views and location aren't exactly the most picturesque. This particular hotel is on the edge of town near the airport, a few car lots, and a couple of body shops/tire stores. From my room, all I could see was a truck stop parking lot and the back of an industrial building. My parents were treated to the side of a tire store, complete with old tires stacked up alongside the building, and some of the hotel parking lot. You have to drive a couple of miles for nicer views and to go to shops and restaurants, but thankfully nothing in Montrose is very far. I will say that this somewhat remote location does lend itself to a more quiet experience. I didn't find the hotel or its surroundings to be noisy at all and slept very soundly, which is always nice when traveling. Overall, despite the minor things I just mentioned, I had a nice stay at the Hampton Inn Montrose and would stay here again in the future. read more

This may be the only hotel in Montrose. I'm not positive if that's actually the case, but it would seem so based on the size of the town and their lack of attention to detail. The rooms seem very bland and unfinished, like not a place you'd want to call home for a few days. It reminded me more of a unfinished dorm room than a contemporary hotel room. They weren't dirty... But they seemed uninviting. They didn't have a bath, which doesn't bother me as I don't use one, but the base of the shower creaked like they didn't have proper support under it. The entire time I took a shower there was a loud creaking noise every time I would shift my weight, and it made me feel like I was going to break through the floor. The free breakfast is nice, but I would've gladly paid for one that tasted better. I'm not sure if the eggs were powdered, but they were very small chunks that didn't taste like real eggs. The pineapple tasted like it came from a can that had been sitting around too long. If I have to stay here again, I will go out to breakfast and pay for it read more

The check in was quick and pleasant and about 15 minutes into my stay, I received a call from the front desk asking if everything looked okay / clean. People are friendly and the rooms are nice and up to date. A couple of things that were minor drawbacks for me: the hallways were very narrow; you can hear people walking up and down the halls...it actually vibrates. The other thing was that into early evening, I was surprised that some of the planes that take off from Montrose Regional Airport (right near the property) are fairly large. This wasn't an issue into the night, though. I slept with the window cracked open and outside noise was not an issue. Overall, the stay was very good and I would recommend this Hampton to anyone needing a place to stay in Montrose. read more

After flying half way across the country with my 82 year old mother to visit her friend who she has known since childhood and hasn't seen in over 10 years, the hotel said they no longer had a room for us even though I had booked this trip months prior. They tried contacting me that same day but I was on a plane. They said that they had a room for us in another hotel that was 1 hour away. We were only there to visit this person in Montrose but didn't know what else to do so we ended up staying at the hotel 1 hour away. When checking into the new hotel they told us that our stay was being covered by Hampton Inn so I thought they meant they were paying for our stay since they caused such a huge inconvenience but they were only paying for the difference of cost between the two hotels. I reached out to the Hampton Inn asking if they would be willing to pay for at least 1 or 2 nights of our stay but they never responded! We actually had to cut our visiting short because my mother could not handle the 1 hour drive back and forth every day. read more

This is a tidy hotel that got the job done for us - staying 1 night before heading out for next leg of our Colorado trip. Hotel is clean and newer-looking but room was rather small. We wanted a place to stay in Montrose so we could explore the nearby national park. I figured a chain hotel would be a safe bet since their parent company (Hilton) set forth requirements to follow in light of the global pandemic. Unfortunately, Hampton Inn Montrose was not following hardly any of them. To begin with, there is zero physical distancing in the check-in area, no plexiglass shields and zero employees wearing masks. I was appalled at this. If you aren't going to wear masks at least install shields because this is a very tiny area and gets crowded quickly. You would have no idea a global pandemic was going on. We wore masks and stood way far back from the desk (as far back as we could). We still didn't feel safe. Additionally, Hilton states there will be seals on the door to show no one entered the room since it was last cleaned. Our room had no such seal on it. So does that mean it was never sufficiently cleaned or it was entered since? The remote was not in a case as a previous poster made note of. I am not convinced the room was even cleaned all that well because these simple precautions were not taken. Additionally, in a non-COVID related complaint, the swipe area to get into our room didn't work. It took over ten tries to get either swipe key to work. We went back to the desk to get new keys and those did the same thing. In the morning, we watched a gentleman down the hall from us have the same problem. Obviously, the actual swiping mechanisms on these doors need to be replaced. During normal times, this is a basic hotel in an industrial area of the city that is probably fine for exploring Montrose or the national park. During COVID, I would choose to stay absolutely anywhere else. Maybe try the Holiday Inn Express in town. This place is not taking any of their listed COVID precautions. When I reviewed them on Trip Advisor, their manager Maria Trujillo's only response was "All doing the best we can." What a completely apathetic and inappropriate response for a hotel during a deadly pandemic. Stay far away! read more

I have stayed at this hotel three times, all when I had a flight out of Montrose the following morning. On all occasions, I've had a terrific experience, and would rate this as one of the nicer small town, off-the-beaten-path hotels I've stayed in. For sure, it is the nicest Hampton Inn that I've seen, my other experiences being with somewhat dubious places in Columbus, OH and Bloomington, IN (the latter reeking of smoke almost everywhere). This hotel is comparable to a Holiday Inn Express in niceness, and is actually even a bit better that that would suggest. The hotel is extremely clean, both in the lobby and common areas as well as the rooms. The beds are extremely comfortable, with attractive bedding and ample pillows. It is also nicely quiet. There is also an indoor pool and jacuzzi, both of which contain sparkling, inviting water and look as though someone does a very good job taking care of them. A nice surprise tonight - when I checked in and discovered that I had stupidly made a reservation not for tonight but for two weeks from tonight, and then had to deal with this snafu by calling Expedia - was that the coffee in the lobby (at 9 PM!) was fresh and tasty. And Barb, who checked me in and helped me deal with the folks in the call center, was helpful and pleasant to this extremely tired and weary traveler. I go to Telluride frequently, and will always choose this place to stay when I fly back from Montrose. A gem about which I cannot formulate even a single complaint. Oh yes. We stayed here over Christmas while visiting family in Montrose. I have stayed at other Hampton Inns over the years and have come to expect clean, well maintained rooms. That is what I got here as well. Everything was nice and comfortable for the price, even the free breakfast was pretty good. The coffee was exceptionally good. Very comfortable and relaxing! Stayed two nights - Exceptionally clean, quiet, and comfortable. The all-day free coffee is fantastic, the rooms are a good size, and they allowed our little dog to stay as well! The surrounding area is a bit boring, and the Wi-Fi is very slow, but for a quick stay it's great! Friendly staff available 24/7 and there's even a free breakfast from 6am-10am. read more

I can't say enough about the staff at this hotel. Amy and Jennifer were so helpful and went the extra mile with a smile! They drove me to get something to eat. Called the restaurant ahead of time (The Stone House--also excellent by the way) And then they picked me up to bring me back to the hotel. And you know what you're going to get as far as the breakfast etc so I don't think it's fair to complain when you know what you're going to get. The hotel is clean as well. We stayed here for 5 nights during a last minute emergency trip from out of state. They were so accommodating and helpful with our reservation. Upon arriving they gave us complimentary snacks and drinks for all 3 of us. After a long day of traveling, that was a nice surprise! Our room was very clean. The whole hotel is spotless! The staff was very friendly. Dominec saw I was a diamond member, asked what my room preference was and booked accordingly. We asked for a dinner recommendation and he was quick to provide a recommendation. The room was clean and definitely up to the Hampton/Hilton standard. This is not a Hampton Inn and Suites so the room was smaller. There is nothing within walking distance, so a shuttle ride or cab will be necessary to take you to dinner. read more

The staff was plenty warm and welcoming, rooms were clean and comfortable (hence, the third star), but these paper thin walls have made for a very long, very restless night. All night (and now, morning), I feel like I have been IN bed with the snoozer next door. My "white noise" app couldn't begin to mask the roars of the freight train and (bless his heart), while I'm glad someone's getting some sleep, I'd prefer to catch some z's myself. Oh wait, what's that?! Oh good, my other neighbor is up to catch the 4:00 am segment of Andy Griffith! (Only two more hours until breakfast!) There are limited lodging options here in Montrose, so if this is where you must land, Hampton Inn is a good option, but do come baring ear plugs or noise-canceling headphones and a sleep aid. read more

We did not try the free breakfast as we had family things to do. Service was fine, but we did not stay in the hotel. It was just a place to sleep. This place isn't very good for being a Hampton Inn. The rooms are so small it isn't even funny. If you are by yourself it wouldn't be a big problem but with any people in the party it wouldn't be a lot of fun. Stayed there for a family reunion. Rooms were clean, beds were comfortable. No refrigerator or microwave, but all you have to do is ask for one, and they'll bring it to you. The rooms with two beds are much larger than those with one bed, so get a room with two even if you don't need the second bed. The staff was wonderful--friendly and accommodating. We rented the conference rooms, and they were a perfect venue for our get-together. The breakfast was yummy--loved the oatmeal station. We've stayed at most of the hotels/motels in Montrose, and this one is definitely the best. read more
