They treated us with such kindness and were so willing to help us find the right car, at the right price, for our trip! Actually we got a fantastic car for an amazing prize. This is my second experience with National (the other one in Texas for MD Anderson Hospital) and both were experiences that I would love to repeat over and over again. Brand new location for this Rental Company and they have a ton of kinks to work out. The location…read moreat RST is so new that they don't have a Store Location Code for the kiosk in MSP to use for Rental Returns. Therefore, the employees couldn't complete the rental transaction and I had to use their website on my phone to set up the rental. When you arrive in RST to drop off the car, they don't have a parking lot marked for Dollar (For example, Hertz has a spot with the yellow Hertz sign and the #6). Since you leave MSP through a Hertz check-out (not a Dollar), I assumed that would be the right spot to park the car. Inside of RST, they don't have a kiosk for Dollar either. Luckily, the Hertz employees saw the lost look on my face and pointed to a small white board behind them that said, "Dollar Rentals too." Once they get the kinks worked out, we'll be happy to raise the rating. We feel bad giving a low rating because the employees were very nice and tried to be helpful with their limited resources. Also, we got an amazing deal on a rental to finish our long journey home (Our original flight was supposed to arrive in RST, but due to the storms in CLT, we took a last second flight to MSP so we wouldn't get stuck another night in Charlotte); Dollar rental was more than 80% cheaper than their competitors. As it stands though, these kinks could really frustrate other customers and offset any savings.

Another car was a hybrid, no-one explained anything to me about how this car worked. Lights kept coming on and I did not feel safe driving it. One of the cars, the key fob didn't work so I was stranded for 2 hours waiting for someone to pick me up so that I could buy a battery for YOUR cars key fob, I had to fill every one of the tanks even though it was YOUR cars that malfunctioned. I lost several days of my vacation returning YOUR vehicles. Then I was charged for leaving my car off a day late. You should be paying me. I will NEVER rent a car from Avis again.

So I am literally sitting 10 feet from the Avis counter writing this review while the Avis representative sits at an empty counter and my rental car waits in the parking lot because Avis would not adjust my reservation without charging $$$$. As a veteran, I chose Avis because of the discounts that I received through USAA Savings Bank. I really wish I had chosen Hertz, Dollar, National, or Enterprise who all offer similar discounts and have counters 5 feet away. Highly recommend avoiding this business and it's poor business practices.

However, the car would not start and he had to have it towed. At that point, his sister loaned him a car so he didn't need one the rest of the time he was there. When it was time to leave after his mom passes away, he rented another car to go back to Rochester. They overcharged him $156.00, for what? Because he had to get a different car to come home in since the first one would not start. Useless company! Never using Budget/Avis again!

The company paid for my logging, car rental, and flights between Winnipeg (YWG) and Rochester (RST), through Minneapolis-Saint Paul (MSP). I flew in late at night. Both flights were on time. It's quite the size change between the three airports. MSP Terminal 1 is perhaps twice the size of YWG. RST is maybe a third of YWG. RST is a small airport. It has two runways. Delta and American Airlines fly out of it, with the occasional Sun Country flight here and there. Why is it an international airport? It's due to the Mayo Clinic roughly 10 km north of this airport. It's considered a hub for Mayo Clinic MedAir. Dignitaries would often fly into RST to get care at the Mayo Clinic when I was a resident of Rochester. RST is barely in Rochester. It's next door to Stewartville, which is a rather small city. These days, the latter city is famous for Jimmy's salad dressings and dips. I remember trying to drive northbound for the first time from the airport to the north end of Rochester. It was pitch-black. I had high beams on my rental car all the way until I finally had street lights on highway 63. I recently returned to this airport to check it out. It is nicer than when I was a resident of Rochester. There are clear signs indicating where to go to check in to a flight (ticketing) and where baggage claim was. I remember flying home to Winnipeg after the interview. There was a roof leak at the terminal. There was a huge bucket sitting on the carpeted floor. I am hoping that the roof has been fixed. It's one of the lasting impressions that I have of this airport. Parking remains cheap. It's a $60 maximum parking for a week. The daily maximum is $10. I last parked here over the Christmas holidays eons ago. I returned on New Year's Day to a ton of snow on my car and took some time to clear it off. Good times! For car rentals, you get Avis, Budget, Enterprise, and National. There was clear labelling to fetch your car from the rental parking lot. I remember clearing security quickly. It's an advantage flying out of a small airport. It feels more efficient dealing with a smaller set of travellers. I don't recall ever getting any food or drinks when I flew out of RST. I don't think there's a major eatery. It doesn't matter. There has been more development in the area, from hotels to eateries. You'd probably do better getting food nearby before flying out. It was nice to drop by and see this airport again. I did a lot of reminiscing. It's definitely a much improved airport since I was last here as a traveller who resided in Rochester. (164)

We were under…read morethe impression that they were doing the dance floor and tent set up, but when they arrived, they dropped off the trailer and said that it costs extra for setup and left. This was never discussed previously. They left, and we worked on getting them to come back to help with the set up. Within a couple hours, they returned and helped get things setup. Everything turned out great after that. Just make sure you discuss set up cost beforehand.
