We received our written confirmation with confirmation # by email from Auburge du Joli Vent six weeks ahead of time. Two hours before we were due to check in, they called and told us they had overbooked and could not honor our reservation! They did help to find us other accommodations: for the same price they found a place that was in absolutely no way comparable 20 miles away. The poor desk clerk was left to deal with us. The "Director" at Auburge do Joli Vent would not make eye contact with us or speak to us. We had traveled all the way across the continent to be in Knowlton and our vacation plans were totally destroyed. We lost half a day just arguing with them and getting other vastly inferior accommodations. The compensation for our trouble: They offered us a cup of coffee!

They have kayaks, oars, and PFDs for you to use during your stay. The preserve and lake are must-sees by water. Even novice kayakers would enjoy this. The downstairs shower in the second bathroom was amazing. It was so needed on sore muscles after a long day of touring, driving, and kayaking. The spa down in the hotel offers a steam room (Hammam), whirlpool spa, sauna. All were excellent. There is also massages, body wraps, facials, and mani-pedis available on site. We didn't use the outdoor pool, but it was a salt water heated one (a big plus). The exercise room needs work-it does not have a/c and the weight equipment needs some lubrication. The restaurant La Brise was very good. Our server was so attentive and made sure my mom had a nice birthday surprise. I will give a review and rating separately for that. All in all a very reasonably-priced place to stay. I'd stay here again.

Two weeks ago, I stayed at this hotel with my three best friends. Before booking, I asked if their Découverte gastronomique package (which includes three course dinner and brunch for two days) could accommodate vegans. They said yes, no problem for vegan menu. I asked twice once while booking and then again days before our trip. On the first night I was served a nice tofu noodle dinner which was actually quite good. The only thing they could make for a starter was a salad but it was a sophisticated one. The dessert was a cup of fruit...which isn't dessert. That's all I am going to say. Then, Saturday brunch was disaster. They didn't even have non-dairy milk for my coffee. All I could eat was the basket of toast they plopped on the table. I was pretty pissed and I let the manager know. The reason why I am giving them 4 stars is because the chef really pulled up his socks after this. Saturday night dinner was the best vegan meal I have ever had. For started, the chef made a vegetable tartare finely chopped stacked together with a refreshing and relishing green sauce. He prepared a mushroom risotto which was beyond amazing. I am talking about a variety of seemingly exotic buttery mushrooms, each one unique, cooked to perfection and delicately assembled in my bowl with the delicious arborio rice and herbs. They served chocolate cake for dessert which was pretty good too. Sunday brunch was crepes, fruit with maple syrup and it really it the spot. I hope the restaurant keeps providing delicious vegan meals to it's clients. The chef really has a knack for turning plants into heavenly meals that anyone would truly enjoy. As for the hotel itself. The room decor is a little outdated with it's blue accent paint but it was very clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed the outdoor fire pit in the evening and the pool. There is also a beautiful place to go kayaking behind the hotel in a windy wetland where you can spot all kinds of birds.

With English not being their primary language of their staff, they always make a great effort to be helpful. Great little bar with a couple of seating options and a very nice pool table. The bar hours are quirky, but it's appreciated. They are open until the last person says they are done. After a long day on the road, it's appreciated to be able to have one last nightcap without any attitude whatsoever from the bartender.
