We were doing a gut-out of our basement and for the re-build we chose to do spray foam instead of batt insulation. Its a big home (footprint is over 2400 sq. ft) and we really wanted the space to hold the heat. Combined with this we also run in floor heating. Now that winter is creeping closer there is a definite improvement in heat retention. We also did a perimeter spray around a cold room that will become our wine cellar and during the summer months the temp. inside stayed at 64 and now in winter I've monitored a constant 65 degrees C ... now that's what I call a stable temp. control !!!!
The advantages to this product are that every hole for piping and electrical gets the gaps sealed therefore there is no area for cold air to enter. As well as bugs and mice.
It is it's own vapour barrier.
Install was done over the course of 2 days. Low odour, wet paint smells worse and really there is no clean up. Workers were friendly and gave their advise and moreso, they listened to me and my corcerns/ideas and made it all work.
