We stayed at the Hotel Marina River. Eolo is the restaurant attached to the hotel so we decided to check it out, especially because of all the rave reviews. Very small restaurant but amazing food. They bought out a variety of breads and and waiter graciously explains then all to you. I had the spaghetti and clam while my boyfriend had the catch of the day. For the catch, they grill the entire fish and then debone it table side which was very cool. The wine selection was also remarkable. If you love wine, I would say do a bottle or half bottle instead of by the glass, it tends to be slightly less expensive. We were actually able to reserve the best table in the house which is the middle table on the terrace (There are only 3 terrace tables). We were given complimentary appetizer and dessert which were both amazing. I would say this restaurant isn't for the faint of heart meaning that if you're picky like me it'll be hard to fine something to eat. The spaghetti and clams seemed like the only option for me beside the yummy grilled vegetables. Don't get me wrong the food is outstanding! read more

My boyfriend and I found this restaurant on our recent stay in Amalfi. The menu looked like regular Italian cuisine but the pictures of the view is what sold us, and so we went! We arrived at the restaurant and were lucky enough to get seated on their balcony - the view from the restaurant was incredible! It offered a full view of Amalfi in all it's glory. I did try and take a picture but it was nighttime and nothing I took could do it justice! The menu looked like any other place, some sort of frutti de mare pasta, gnocchi etc. I'd been eating seafood and pasta non stop that trip so I thought I'd go for something different and have the gnocchi with calabrese. My boyfriend chose salted cod in canneloni (I can't remember exactly, I forgot to write down what we had or take a pic of the menu!). Anyway, to cut a long story short, the food here was anything BUT your regular, run-of-the-mill Italian Cuisine. We got the usual bread assortment but the amuse bouche that we got given was incredible. I'm not even exaggerating. We were served these transparent plastic spheres with grilled fish and filled with smoke! Opening up the sphere came out these amazing woody, barbeque smell which really did add to the flavour of the dish! I've never experienced anything like that before! Our starter was deep fried wrapped prawns, but you can see from the picture it was presented so beautifully! The mains were also delicious. I could not have predicted how the gnocchi would be served - 6 tubes of gnocchi filled with the calabrese sauce, not the usual dumplings smothered in sauce! They also tasted very very nice! The dessert, oh myyyy! I remember it was white chocolate, but beyond that I have no clue, my tastebuds had gone into overdrive and I was in absolute heaven! The staff were all very helpful and attentive. If anyone was coming to Amalfi I would definitely recommend this place - beautiful location and a nice romantic atmosphere too :) read more

We stayed at the Hotel Riviera Maya and booked the tasting menu at Eolo at our hotel's recommendations. Honestly, my expectations were not that high considering it's a hotel restaurant but this ended up being one of our favorite meals of Italy, which we weren't expecting at all! For 80 Euro a person, you get 2 appetizers, 2 pastas, 1 fish and 1 dessert. They also throw in an amuse bouche, Bon bons and dessert wine at the end. Not a bad value and the perfect way to taste a little bit of everything. The food was innovative and unique while maintaining traditional Italian flavors. We had the raw fish appetizer, which was a platter of 6 different types of raw seafood ranging from crawfish to sea bass. The fish tasted so fresh and was such a wonderful change after eating SO much caprese salad/bruschetta for antipastis. The pasta was delicious, I can't remember the name but I believe it was some sort of ravioli? The fish was tasty but unremarkable. My husband who is the tiniest eater in the world ate everything on his plate at Eolo, so he definitely liked the food too. Service from wait staff and sommelier was excellent-very attentive and polite. Lastly, the view! Amazing beautiful view of Amalfi and we had the best table right in front. read more

I've traveled the world but have never been faced with more RACIST treatment in my life. Me and a couple friends (all Asian) stop by early one evening for a nice dinner. The entire restaurant was empty and the hostess sat us at the worst table. We asked whether it would be possible to sit at a different table and she said no, all the tables were booked. Seriously? You expect me to believe that every single table in the restaurant is reserved save the worst table in the house for walk-ins? She also said even though these reservations didn't specify which table they wanted, she felt obligated to save them better tables - even though for the DURATION of our dinner, we were the only ones at the restaurant. When we left, the restaurant was still thoroughly empty (including the better-situated tables that were apparently reserved) but at least we had the chance to enjoy dinner with this hostess talking behind our back the entire meal! Bottom line, DON'T EAT HERE. The service will truly ruin what would otherwise be a lovely evening in a beautiful city. read more

One of the most memorable parts of my trip. The wine list is incredible and the staff are very good at making recommendations to pair with food. The ambiance is simple, elegant, and romantic. I had the octopus starter and it was the best dishes I've had in years, and the most memorable part of the meal. I had the catch of the day which was cooked perfectly and filleted by the waiter in front of me. It was flaky, tender, and a great fish - not too memorable, but well executed. I finished with the Amalfi dessert which was paired with a beautiful dessert wine with notes of grapefruit. The dessert itself was rather conservative, but the wine pairing took it to another level. We had a very special experience here tonight. The service was impeccable and the food was amazing! We felt very pampered and attended to. Elegant atmosphere and ambiance with ocean views and lively background music. I had the grilled red snapper and vegetables with the Mediterranean salad with a wonderful white wine. A nice change of pace from all the pasta and pizza over the past 10 days. You will not be disappointed!! read more

Decent meal but not great service for the price. We went for a honeymoon dinner and the food was good, but not great, and the service was below expectations for the price. I wanted to like this place more as it seems close to being nice a top notch restaurant but it missed in a few areas. It's a small place with a great view and ambiance, but the staff didn't seem very friendly and we constantly had to flag them down when we needed something. We sat waiting for the check for 20-30 minutes, which I could understand if we were finishing our drinks, but our drinks were done and we didn't even have water in front of us. Very surprising especially for a small high-end restaurant. The food was good for the most part and had great presentation, but the flavors on the lamb with mint jelly didn't work. The shrimp and calamari appetizer and the baked salted catch of the day was very good, but spaghetti and clams was just ok. I enjoyed the amuse bouche octopus with passion fruit sauce, and the breads were very good. read more

We came to the amalfi coast after 5 days in Venice and Florence, Eolo was by far the best meal we had in Italy. There has not been a close second in terms of food, level of service, or value. All were outstanding, we paid just a little less the night before at a restaurant in the center of town called Lido Azurro and Eolo's food was just flat out on a different level. My wife and I ordered the lobster appetizer to start, which was presented so beautifully and tasted extremely fresh. We then split the next two dishes wish were a pasta dish, the macaroni, although it was not anything like we were expecting. The macaroni were basically long tubes halved filled with cheese and then placed over a pomodori sauce with a pesto sauce spread above it and ricotta foam/mousse (for lack of a better term) on the side. Again, the presentation was beautiful and we were expecting a bowl full of macaroni, this was anything but that. Simply put, my favorite dish in Italy so far. For our main course, we split the rack of lamb which was prepared perfectly, it was tender and juicy and served over a potato/onion combination with a rich au jus drizzled throughout the dish. Again, simply delicious. For dessert, our waiter steered us to the namelaka, which was our last choice for the dessert menu and we are so glad we did, words can't describe the presentation and the taste was phenomenal. It was a subtle lemon cream over a delicious cake with white chocolate and a raspberry sauce. Everything, including the homemade bread were fabulous and the service was impeccable. The amuse bouche before dinner and dessert could've been the single best things on any other menu we've had throughout Italy,not hyperbole, simply how good our meal was at Eolo. I highly recommend Eolo to anyone visiting the actual town of amalfi and if you stay in the marina riviera hotel where it is situated, they give you a 10% discount. This was a 5 star experience and then some. read more
