I'm out in the San Tan Valley and Florence area. Epcor bought out Johnson Utilities in 2021 which was a very bad company. Epcor hasn't made it any better. The water quality here is so bad we are afraid to let our dogs drink it. The fees are pretty high for water, but that's not my main complaint. My main complaint is the customer service. They are all useless. If you call customer service, they clearly don't know what they are doing. I got shut off once because we could not afford the $250 bill because I am disabled and my wife's hours were cut. Sure, that's partially on us cause we couldn't afford it, but they didn't really work with us to help us pay it either. After we were able to get the money to pay the bill, (they make you pay it online then verify the confirmation number over the phone). The lady told us the water would be back on the same day with no extra fee.. then later in the same call stated "Oh, there will be a reconnection fee now cause it's after 3pm, do you want to wait until tomorrow to avoid the fee?" No! I do not want to wait in Arizona summer heat to have my water turned back on! Also, their online chat does not work. It redirects you to wait for an agent, then disconnects you. So I used the message system they have on their site to complain about it and all they said was "we know it's broken." Then why is it still an option for customers? They push for customers to use it even! Also, whenever I use the message system, I don't get good answers back, they always state the obvious and don't address my questions or problem. Lastly, their website doesn't break down your bill when you want to pay, and for some reason a lot of the time it schedules the payment for the next day instead of taking it right out, especially on weekends. I feel like for such a big company this shouldn't be a problem. TLDR; Epcor customer service is frustrating as their reps are not very good and/or poorly trained, their online chat is broken, replies through their website message system only state the obvious, are limited responses, and are not helpful in any way. The online payment system is not efficient and could be better for such a big company. read more

Called 811 for marking my yards buried utility lines and I specified NOT to paint the landscape rocks. Every other companies that located the lines, didn't spray the rocks. I sent epcor check number 5888 epcor hold on to it and turn off the water service to my home. Next epcor over charged my account $200 around $50 to turn on the water service to my home. On top of everything epcor had stolen and over charged epcor cashed the check 5888 for amount of $75 epcor used to be johnson utilities and they changed their name because of the lawsuit they had lost for committing the similar discussing crimes. read more

Well EPCOR has updated their app, and of course there are numerous issues. Had trouble paying my bill and I was charged a $1.80 processing fee. I looked at my profile and it now shows an email address That I haven't had for over 10 years! The system doesn't let me update this new app with updated personal information. I will call them tomorrow. My current billing is double what my monthly amount usually is, so I am assuming that I did not receive a online notification since the updated app was put in place And this bill is for two months. Epcor has been anything but cooperative at all turns. Our water heater failed prematurely because the water pressure regulator failed. The water pressure regulator failed because the water pressures to our neighborhood are too high. Everyone on our street has been replacing regulators and water heaters because of this. They deserve 0 stars. Absolutely AWFUL company to deal with. They might be the worst I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. "The issue with EPCOR has been ongoing since November. We received an abnormally high bill with extra charges added. In December, we received another bill that claimed our water usage for the month was in excess of 100,000 gallons, and the largest bill we have ever received with EPCOR (and Johnson Utilities). We reached out to EPCOR starting back in December and it has just been back and forth with them. They had someone look at the meter back in December and they claimed there was nothing wrong with it. We received a disconnect notice and so we were concerned since we could not observe any signs of a leak inside or around our property. We hired a plumber to inspect our property and they could not find any evidence of leaks anywhere. We presented all of this information to EPCOR and they put is in contact with the water conservation team. This led to additional back and forth as its very difficult to get in touch with this team since they have no direct contact. Finally, we were able to have a foreman from the local office come out to our house, look at our property/meter, and talk to us directly. He told us that the meter in the ground is known to fail and that this has been going on since before EPCOR took over. He said that the meter would report usage incorrectly and would go back and recommend that the meter be replaced. This never happened and several weeks later, we received a phone call from EPCOR to make payment. We decided to reach out to the Arizona Corporation Commission and suddenly the needle started moving again. We've attached the original complaint which has additional information. We received an e-mail from EPCOR on behalf of the ACC which listed the next steps. Today, we received a phone call from EPCOR directly. Again, they are unwilling to take ownership of their failing meter. The "supervisor" and EPCOR are still claiming that we used more than 100,000 gallons of water in a 30 day span. This is a very abbreviated capture of the events. We feel very much at a loss since the company refuses to take ownership of their failing equipment despite having an employee tell us directly that the meters in the ground are prone to have this issue, we are being told its our responsibility." read more

I checked Yelp to see if my experience is unusual, and unfortunately not. How do companies get away with this? More company choices are needed to force them to provide good service. What a disgrace. Ever since we moved out here to San Tan valley, we have had nothing but grief with the the water company. After being sued for its shenanigans with the people out here, it was court ordered to have operations overseen by queen creek or mesa water company. Things have gotten worse. I have printed out my water bill history to prove that they are up to no good again under a different name now. 3 months ago they came out and replaced our water meter stating that it hadn't been reading anything at all for 2 months. But somehow we got a bill for those months that was $30 -$40 over what it should be. They replaced the meter 2x now and these last 2 months our bill has averaged over $100 each month what it use to be before these issues they claim they have been having. It's just me and the wife who are senior citizens and our kids married and moved out 3-7 yrs ago. We have had our system checked for leaks and no leaks were found and pressure never dropped at all in a 30 min time frame. I've shut Part of my watering system off and changed out 2 toilets to make sure we had nothing leaking. I even unhooked my water softener and closed the valves to bypass it to make sure. We tried to explain this to Epcore the water company and they will not talk about it. I have 2 daughters with young children that live just down the road who uses the same water company. Both of their bills combined will still not equal 1 of ours and one of them has a good size in ground pool. Why are they doing this to senior citizens out here. Especially since I'm losing my job with Intel 2 weeks before Christmas. The wife works in the cafeteria out here at Legacy school and doesn't make much. We need someone to look into this to put a stop to this corrupt company. read more

I would recommend avoiding using this service if at all possible. Their phone service is awful if you ever have to use it, getting a simple problem fixed can take hours of being transferred again and again. If you pay your bill late a few times they make it harder for you to pay your bill, how does that make sense? And it takes nearly a year to get back to being able to just pay online again. Called for service due to frozen shut-off valves at house & at meter. Needed to stop serious mainline leak in side yard. EPCOR sent out the RUDEST technician I have ever encountered. Besides refusing to replace the main valve (EPCOR's valve-- so crusty & stiff it looks like it came off the Titanic), he proceeded to berate me for tampering with EPCOR's equipment. Berate me? Oh yes. I take that sort of abuse from no one, especially not from some proudly arrogant quasi-plumber stranger! AZ Epcot is horrible and crooked. They will scam customers every opportunity. Their ACH is 5 days before actual date of payment. You are then charged for late fee and returned payment when there is a problem on the banks end. IT IS NOT THEIR POLICY TO INFORM CUSTOMERS WHEN THERE IS A PROBLEM!! After having dealt with Epcor for over 5 weeks in order to have an overpayment I sent in returned to me, I can fully understand why there are so many 1 star ratings for them and also, why a number of the reviewers would have liked give them 0 stars. I first contacted Epcor on Jan 23 after I received notification from my bank that my payment to Epcor had been processed. I was told by Epcor at that time that they did see the error and, would refund the overpayment within 5 to 10 business days. It wasn't until after the end of that 10 day period on Feb 3rd, that I was again contacted by Epcor advising me that due to the amount of the overpayment, I would now have to wait until Feb 23 to receive the refund due to their fictitious concerns that, my bank could retract that payment within 30 days of receipt. I say their concerns were fictitious because, I was informed by my bank whom I also called on Jan 23, that once a payment has been deducted from my account, transferred to the recipients account and processed which occurred on Jan 23. There is no way a bank could then access that recipients account and take back that deposit. However, this did not deter Epcor from refusing to return my refund as initially promised. In fact, prior to Feb 23, I was again notified by Epcor on Feb 4th, one day after being told on Feb 3rd that my refund would be issued on Feb 23rd, that my refund would now not be issued until Feb 28th. So much for their 30 day waiting period as this would now make it 36 days since they received my overpayment. As it turns out, my refund was not issued and mailed until March 1st which was 37 days after receipt. I firmly believe the delay was due to Epcor not being concerned about any repercussions from incidents like this. Unlike how the consumer can cancel service if they are unhappy with their internet, telephone, or cable service. When this occurs with utility suppliers like Epcor, the consumer does not have that option and these companies can say or do what ever they like with no fear of losing a customer. read more

When I first started service with EPCOR, I saw the bad reviews, but couldn't believe that they could be accurate. Let me say now that I have had real experience with them, I now know that many were being generous. i autopay monthly the full amount. The last two bills have gone way up, which had me thinking I might have a leak. I contacted them, and they admitted that their system had a glitch, but did not want to let their customers know, because they did not want them to panic. Their latest billing issue, which is totally their fault, has my head spinning. In talking with them, they admit that automatic payments are not being taken out, as their system has had a glitch for the past 2+ months, and they don't know when it will be fixed. They tell me there will be no late charges. Then the next day I get an automated message, threatening to turn off my service for non-payment. Horrible customer service and poor fiscal management. But it is a monopoly so we are stuck with them. read more

Very unprofessional. Was being challenged by the representative over the phone after waiting for 25 min. Billy put me on hold for 8 min forcing me to hang up after I sat there and talked to the phone, hello are you there? I didn't want to hang up because I waited so long. I called again and was helped in less than 5 min. That was not a good first impression. OHHH and initially they had our address wrong and turned our water off! They even listened to recording and the representative was the one who misunderstood. Can't believe we were going to be paying someone else's bill for god knows how long it could have went on for. Epcor has been my provider since January 2021 when they took over from Johnson Utilities. to date I have owned my house for four years. My average water usage has ranged between $56-$75 to which I expect however, for the last five months July through November, my bill quadrupled: September and October I was billed exactly $215.49 total opposed to roughly $65. I have no pool no irrigation and no landscaping I don't even have a drip system NOTHING has changed in my household except my MIL moved out (one less person) and I have eco-friendly appliances when I called they told me there must be an issue as it has been consistent for the remaining 3 1/2 years that I was billed SO it's fine?! Antiquated company populated with rude uneducated employees. Made 5 phone calls explaining I was the victim of identity theft after both my parents died and my bank account needed to be frozen until things could be sorted out. They were SO rude and finally insisted I drive all the way out to deal with it in person. Literally wouldn't just take my money without tons of drama and time wasted. 15 other companies I dealt with were kind and cooperative. But apparently $120 is enough to bring EPcor to it's knees. Deplorable! After 7 years of maintaining a positive balance of $100+ on my water bill, when I moved and converted the unit into a rental there was a $10.03 balance. I received 1 email notice and nothing further. Over a year later I get a letter from a collection agency. I called Epcor and after waiting on the line for an hour spoke to someone who finally advised me that the charges were written off and sent to collections. I was told if I used the phone system to pay the bill, even though it showed a zero balance, they would notify the collection agency. They transferred me to the automatic system and it would not let me make a payment. I ended up sending an check through Chase which is how I paid my bill for many years. I have had Epcor water service for 20 years and during that time, I have paid my bill on time (almost) every month. Somehow, because I was traveling and because my credit card was compromised and canceled, they shut my water off. So obviously, my past performance has nothing to do with how I'm treated. Their goal is to run you down until the issues are not important to you! Classic deflection and misdirection numerous calls. No one is in charge and everyone must get involved is a sign of classic mismanagement. The sale of American Water Co to Epcor was criminal as the "new policies" eliminate grandfathered rates and customers, many are on fixed incomes. I truly do not understand the negative remarks about Epcor Water. Prior to closing on my house, March 8, 2018, in Corte Bella in Sun City West, I called to open an account. Mind you, I had heard some negative things about Epcor Water from folks in the neighborhood. I was expecting a bad experience. To the contrary, every person I interfaced with was kind, extremely helpful and answered all my questions. It was the smoothest opening of an account that I have ever had. They told me with the systems that will be coming into play in the future in my community, my water bill will go down. They apologized that the system changeover could not be sooner. I have paid far more for water in other parts of the country. Every encounter with Epcor from phone contacts to turning in my auto-pay form at the office on Del Webb, has been extremely easy and their representatives are always kind and helpful. read more
