When we arrived I was surprised how quaint Benicia was and there huge art community. It turns out that we arrived for there 2nd Saturday Art Walk. I had no idea they still existed. I loved the environment and people. They were all so nice. Our first stop was Gallery 621. We lucked out at finding a parking spot a little over a block away. The place was packed. The gallery is a co-op gallery. Every member takes turns manning the gallery and they all pay in to show there art. They had a good collection of art work and a few statues. The galley was really buzzing. The few people I talked to either were artists or people who followed the artists. I talked to another couple and they drive in once a year to see Daniel's shows. He has quite a following. His work has evolved over the years. This show was wax and spray paint and many layers. Below you can see page 3. We are now proud owners of page 3. Of the two I personally like Tinsel more. Theatre's space felt small, a bit less clean, and seemed focused on selling very similar looking Halloween-core decor as opposed to gifts. Overall if you're in the area I'd stop in, but I wouldn't make a special trip.

Inside you'll find a classy gallery that has a faux grass ceiling. When I visited the artwork presented were oil paintings on aluminum and paint on transparency. These unusual mediums really played to their strengths. I didn't see anything else in Oakland this contemporary or experimental. Unfortunately I hear that they're moving to New York. I can totally see them thriving in a bigger city yet I cannot feel a tad betrayed. Nevertheless, I hope they strike it big.

I believe it's $3 per adult, which is not bad at all. We walked through and looked at the informational displays on the first floor. The Park Ranger that worked there spoke to us and gave us a little history. We also walked around the carriage house, workers' quarters, and sculptured gardens. Very nice visit. Glad they have it open for tours.

A lovely gem in "downtown" Bolinas, this museum consists of five small galleries of sculpture,…read morelandscape paintings, photography, contemporary art, regional artists and local history. There's also a courtyard in the center with benches, flowers and songbirds, all of which make for a relaxing spot to sit for a few minutes. It's not a big museum, but the exhibits are top notch. Plus, in a region with a skyrocketing cost of living, it's nice that the museum is free.

It IS surprisingly good for a small museum. The $10 admission is worth it. Their gift shop had an amazing coffee table book about the visionary art of New Mexican artists. Admission is free for kids (up to age 16) and $5 for adults. They accept cash or credit card payments. The workers were friendly, and we were free to explore at our own pace. This model railroad display was amazing, two floors of detailed scenery and miniature trains, buses, and cable cars moving along the tracks. Loved seeing the setup for different cities in the east bay, old companies and factories, and various landmarks and bridges, representation from the 1940's to today. A diverse range of scenes in the exhibit included people camping, fishing, and boating, emergency vehicles and rescues, a movie theater, casino, Starbucks Coffee, C&H Sugar, the city of Sacramento (including the CA State Capitol building), and the China Wall at Donner Pass, part of the Central Pacific Railroad. There was even an entire amusement park with a ferris wheel, carousel, various carnival rides, and colorful blinking lights. More than enough to keep visitors engaged. They offer a scavenger hunt too. This may be the largest model railroad exhibit I've ever been to. It wasn't too crowded, and obviously the place is family-friendly. Parking was free and easy out front. I was truly impressed with this train show, and with the changing themes and designs throughout the year, I wouldn't hesitate to return for another open house event.
