I have two kids at EHS who are so very different in a variety of ways and it's amazing to me to see how the school is able to meet their individual needs. Their curiosity and love of learning is nourished and I can say there has never been one day that either of them has said they didn't want to go to school. I love the way social skills, team work, mutual respect are woven together with the educational curriculum-both secular and Jewish. The small environment encourages friendships across ages which allows my kids the opportunity to experience being both a leader and follower depending on the situation. One child has needed a lot of extra support, particularly in reading comprehension and speech/language and the experience has been incredible. My other child is a very strong student all around and I love how the teachers are able to build in challenges for her and provide enrichment and harder tests in way that benefits her but is subtle and integrated with the rest of the classes experience. From Kindergarten there have been regular experiences of performing and public speaking and they are both so comfortable in front of an audience or presenting their work. Hillel is a wonderful school. I am still involved so many years after my children graduated because the mission is so compelling and the adult volunteers are so dedicated and generous, the teachers just love teaching, and the best part: the children are happy, they are learning with confidence, and they are aware and compassionate about their world, their families, and their community. My children came home every day starting in 4th grade and got right to work, organizing their backpacks and notebooks, taking responsibility for their homework, and (almost always) were comfortable doing it. By 7th and 8th grade they were using phrases like "time management" and planning their academic obligations on a calendar. And then, when they went off to public high school, the exact same behaviors continued! My friends and family all asked how we did it, and the answer was easy: Hillel! read more

EHS has the most amazing, thoughtful, integrated curriculum of any school I have experienced. The science experiments reflect what the children are learning in history. The reading assignments (or for the lower grades, learning of the letters) reflect what is being taught in other subjects. The staff is attentive, honest, and encouraging. The school motto is "Helping every child be their best self", and EHS truly does this. We originally chose EHS because of the small class sizes, and I am thrilled with the Jewish language and culture that is interwoven into the classrooms. The staff takes it upon themselves to communicate and talk, and they work together to help children develop, learn and progress. We can't say enough wonderful things about this school. read more

I am a graduate of Cohen Hillel Academy, and I was incredibly well prepared for Swampscott High School, and Duke University. My son is currently in Kindergarten and is thriving. He is taking great pride in his work, and he is learning about giving back. He recently told us that rather than celebrating eight days of Chanukah with gifts for him, this year he would like to celebrate with four days of getting and four days of giving. I have no doubt that his comments and behaviors have been positively impacted by his experiences at school. He loves going to school (one morning at 5am he asked me if I could bring him for an early drop-off), and the entire Cohen Hillel family adores my son. When my 2nd grader was in kindergarten, we made the decision to transfer her after Thanksgiving break from the great public school in our town to Cohen Hillel Academy. Three and half years later, we know this is the best decision we could have made for her and for our family. Our second daughter is in 1st grade and we could not have been happier. Knowing that they LOVE going to school every day is only one of many reasons why we send them there. Epstein Hillel School is preparing our daughter for life. The teachers provide a warm and nurturing environment in which learning is paramount. She is encouraged to take risks and try new things, but also is held accountable. Quite simply, Hillel is an amazing place. My son has been there for two years, and I cannot say enough good things about both the secular and Jewish education he is receiving. I have also been very impressed with the new head of school, Amy Gold. She has a vision for Hillel, is committed to STEM initiatives and continuing to build Hillel as a place where children receive their book smarts, as well as where they learn how to be good people.
