Definitely pricey but worth it. I really like this gym. The staff are friendly and helpful and the classes/personal training sessions are great. Love coming here early in the morning to work out. It is never too crowded. Even during peak hours I am able to get the machines I want to use which hasn't always been the case at other gyms I've been a member of. The locker rooms are always clean and are stocked with Kiehl's products, fresh towels, blowdryers, razors, mouthwash, etc. There's also a steam room and a spa which I love :) read more

I have had a great experience over my last three years a member. I have been working out for 25 years -and was looking to "step it up." The classes are very challenging and varied. Instructors are professional and reliable (no no-shows like I had experienced at other clubs). I'm still discovering new class formats I love like Barre boot camp -so tough! Personal training with Christina is amazing and Pilates reformer Michelle is fantastic. The gym is spotless and beautiful. Staff is super friendly and everyone is supportive. I've been a member here now for over a year. Initially, I was extremely hesitant about joining mainly due to the membership fee. Although it remains a bit out of my budget it has been completely worth it and rewarding for me! I have an all access pass which means I also use many of the NYC gyms and none compare to the Paramus location. I love the open space and the fact that it's never too crowded. The facility is very well maintained and the staff and trainers are extremely friendly and helpful! Although I would love it if there were a fuller class schedule throughout the entire day, I am extremely grateful for the high quality classes that they do offer. There are a variety of yoga classes to choose from with very knowledgable and dedicated instructors. I also attend many of the other cardio and strength classes. With such small class sizes and attentive instructors it often feels like a personal training session. Even though the classes are smaller than most NYC classes, the energy is always just as high and you don't have to worry about stepping on the person behind you. My main wish for this gym that would absolutely enhance my experience would be a more robust juice bar such as a Juice Generation, serving freshly pressed veggie and fruit smoothies, like many of the Manhattan Equinox locations. read more

Great classes and equipment. The locker and steam room are upscale. I love the smoothies at the juice bar. The staff is friendly. The gym itself is very nice however the location is not convenient. it's in a area where nothing else is there and the entrance is weird. They should use next door to expand their gym with a pool. They will get a lot more memberships. I am going to give it a year. Than decide if I will renew. Maybe if they add a few more perks. Overall B+ for now. read more

I keep trying to give this place more chances but it's not getting any better. It is still dead with zero energy and only about 25% of the staff is friendly. I'm always outnumbered by the trainers and most of them have an attitude. I prefer to drive to the city to workout. man where to begin, first time coming to this location on Saturday. They announce the gym is going to close at 2pm... Ok, i squeezed my workout in all good. Come back the next day, spending an hour through the snow and ice to get their only to find out they have the gym dedicated to soul cycle and i cant use the facility.. So i pay $200 a month for you to close the gym early on the weekend and only to follow that up by not being proactive and telling your members, especially the ones in the gym that tomorrow they are running this event, man. You can see why people rip this gym apart, also its an embarrassment of a gym lmao read more

I have yet to check out the athletic facility which I plan to my next visit but am writing this review about the spa. This is the best, cleanest, friendliest spa I have ever been too. Kaleena who did my facial was amazing, friendly, and has cured my skin. Before going to her I had awful acne and hyperpigmentation. Now my acne has greatly reduced and hyperpigmentation is almost gone. She manages to ensure absolute professionalism while making sure each session is personal ensuring you know she cares about you and your skin. I highly recommend this place and her, and cannot wait to go back! read more

Very clean and impressive looking gym, but there is no pool and no discount because there is not one either. Not enough classes and they cancel at every opportunity...not just every holiday, but every holiday weekend. Too much snow...cancelled. I like taking my yoga every Sunday morning and I am annoyed when I find it cancelled. For the money I pay, I believe there should be many more classes available. I have off in the summertime and they decrease their number of classes during this time. I have one suggestion make your barre burn class on Saturdays at 10:45 instead of 10:30. There is a class that ends at 10:30 with people putting equipment away and the next class getting equipment for a 10:30 class. It is crazy! And if you don't rush, you might not get the desired weight as they tend to run out. I am considering cancelling my membership in the fall. . read more

They claim that their not returning the money is based on an internal corporate policy that they do not disclose to members. Good sweat! My first event as a +1 and it was awesome. I have never left a yelp event feeling so good (or out of shape!) Upon arrival I enjoyed a five minute complimentary massage. The facility is gorgeous - marble walls in the locker room, a spa area, showers with all of the amenities- I mean this place is FANCY! I didn't need my lock since the lockers have combos that you can program (took me a minute to figure it out ;) I grabbed some snacks and schwag on the way to the thirty minute work out. That was some thirty minutes! Intense rhythmic cardio is how I would describe the fire starter work out. Our instructor was positive and motivating- she really got the room moving. It wasn't easy for me to follow along but my rhythm is not that great, so just may not be the best workout for me. All in all it made me have a good sweat and was a Thursday night well spent. Beautiful facility. Love the locker rooms and private area to change after. Lots of parking. Super convenient for me to get to on a portion of Route 17 that usually does not back up. I hope they get some tenants in the rest of the strip mall so I can do my early morning workouts and then stop in for a coffee and breakfast to go. They are still working on the group exercise schedule so obviously they are trying to get that right. The only reason I don't give them five stars is so far I have not found many instructors that I love (and they need to remember to ALWAYS have a filled eucalyptus squirt bottle in the steam room). I am really into spinning and there is a huge group of hardcore spinners that came over from Crunch in Paramus so you better get on myeq online and sign up 26 hours in advance to make sure you get a bike. I am VERY picky about instructors. Jason Daniello is very good. He plays great music and is very motivating and does a very fast paced intense class. He's from Crunch too and I can see why he has the followers/groupies he has. He's popular and I like to get a bike where I like it so I sign up 26 hours before if I want to be in one of his classes. I spin and take classes the other days at NYSC RIdgewood and at Ethos in Midland Park. The spin bikes at Equinox are awesome. They read out RPM, watts, time, calorie burn and will even pick up your heartrate, but doesn't work with my Timex band (tried a polar strap and it worked with that). The space is spacious and clean. Tons of equipment. Great Kiel products in the locker rooms. Make sure you grab a cooled eucalyptus soaked towel from the small fridges upstairs and down. LOVE!!! I tried the Metcon and Shockwave classes as well, and they were really good for a boot camp like experience. I am not a yoga person, but my yoga friends have said they have great classes. Right now most of the time they have someone there giving complimentary back rubs. I would love to do one, but never have the time before class and after I am too sweaty and wouldn't do that to them. :) It is fun to be at Equinox. It is obviously a happening place and the staff is friendly, professional and accommodating. I am not sure I would love to be there as a beginner, but for a competitive gym rat, you gotta go. I resisted joining because I already had gym memberships that I wasn't going to give up, but ultimately I couldn't not join. Note . .I have now been a member for almost three months and am exercising more than ever because of the great class schedule, beautiful and clean environment and convenience to my home. Other classes and teachers I have taken with that I would highly recommend are Thommie on Shockwave and Angelica on 360 Body Conditioning (step type class on a bouncy step). These classes are HARD and challenging, and the teachers are great and serve up inspiration and modifications for those that need them. One other spin instructor that I like quite a bit is Anthony. Almost don't want to go home when I am there. read more

I have an All access Equinox Membership because I live in NYC and Northern Jersey. I really like this facility because it is large, luxurious and very tranquil. They have a ample amount of parking. The staff are really nice. Plus, the locker rooms are really nice and they have a Great Steam Room. However, the area that it is on Rt 17 is Not the most convenient. it seems to be empty all the time. Equinox should buy out some of the open space next door and put in a swimming pool. If they do that there membership will spike. read more

I originally joined Equinox as I wanted something different in a gym. The old manager John was beyond fantastic. He helped me with my membership, and assisted with all of my questions. I am very sad he left. Recently, I had two mishaps that occurred with my billing. I called and emailed Andrew, the GM, several times. Want to know if he ever got back to me...nope! He was awful! I would call multiple times in the day, and he was either in meetings, teaching a class, or out for the day. The front desk folks took my information several times, and my billing questions NEVER got answered. I decided to give it one more shot, and Mel was able to somewhat assist. She sent an email to customer relations at HQ. She told me to give it a week. A week later, I went to her and asked, she said she was going to follow up. This was almost three weeks ago, and still no answer. Shady practices, horrible customer service, and not member oriented. STAY AWAY! Going to call again on Monday to see if my issue has been fixed. For an almost $200 price tag, this gym is not worth it due to its awful customer service. Goodbye Equinox... read more

Equinox Paramus is one of the cleanest gyms I've ever witnessed, primarily as the maintenance staff works diligently to keep the gym healthy. The tone of the gym gets you into the mood to workout, which could be combined with rewarding yourself by relaxing in the stream room (a decent sized room). I've been a member of Equinox for years in NYC. I tried the Paramus location and I cannot say anything nice about this place. The location is horrible, the management is very rude. The manager is probably the rudest, most cocky kid I've ever encountered (I say kid because he acts one). The gym is not worth that much money. They charge you 10 dollars for your child to sit in a room and play with his phone. The gym doesn't have a pool. Whoever designed this gym should be fired, there are gyms in NYC that are much smaller and are fully equipped with much more exercise rooms. This place has to be at least 30,000 square feet and has only one exercise room. They seem to have a smaller one downstairs as well....wow!!! Don't waste your time or money, it's not worth it. LA fitness is much cheaper and I'm sure you receive better service from management. It's sad, they should fire the managers and get new staff. read more

I allow yelp to make a lot of decisions for me..everything from restaurants to salons and of course, gyms! ..basically anywhere I would spend a penny! I highly encourage you to disregard the bad reviews of this gym...these come from the yelpers that will NEVER be pleased. Why complain about a gym that isn't crowded with people? If the gym was crowded, the same person would say "too crowded" and still give a one star. Also, being located in Northern NJ, it isn't the easiest thing to choose location....who cares what fast food chain is a couple doors down? ...Just don't go there...It's not like you can smell it next door. In fact, the only thing you can smell is the eucalyptus towels. You have to know that it will be a little pricey based on all of the amenities they offer, as well as all of the perks you get from signing up. I got a $100 gift card for no reason and got myself a lovely pair of pants from the gift store. I have had zero trouble with customer service and have become and avid yoga class attendant. It is worth every penny! Paying a little bit more for a gym is a true investment, and kept me readily wanting to go to make my money worth it! Seems to work! Thanks Equinox! read more

In my opinion, this gym is way too overpriced for what it offers. They don't even have a swimming pool or basketball court...They have a heavy emphasis on the gym being pristine clean(even the bathrooms are cleaned every hour) and the staff seem knowledgeable. I mean there are a lot of classes to too, but I just don't think it is worth it when there are so many other gyms in the area that offer more(like 24 hour fitness which offers more for a lot less). read more

I was so excited to join this gym when it first opened because I thought they would offer a wide variety of classes which is where my interest lies....I was so disappointed. The group fitness manager is not receptive to suggestions and the classes are poorly attended. They have 2 signature classes "Shockwave" and "Whipped" both of which are horrible!! The place is empty and very few members...the only popular classes are spinning and even that gets boring after a while with the same instructors!! I was expecting NYC group fitness classes and I got nothing...same old recycled instructors from Bergen County. Save your money and DO NOT JOIN...SO NOT WORTH EVEN HALF OF WHAT THEY CHARGE YOU (which is a lot)!!! read more

I have been an Equinox member at the Paramus fitness center Since November 2014. When joining the fitness center, it had just been open for 6 month prior. When I went for my consultation, the individual (Brett), who is now the Assistant Manager, was pleasant and informative. The place looked very clean and it looked very organized. When we reviewed the cost for membership it was very high in comparison to other local gyms, but taken that the place was clean from the workout areas to the lockers, I decided to make the one year mandatory commitment to join the fitness center. I was also told that my monthly fee would be $149.00 and that it would be a fixed rate and will not go up. Fast forward to today, I noticed that I was charged an additional $3.00 on my credit card for my membership and when I approached the Assistant Manager (Brett) about it, he mentioned that he will find out what it was, but believed that it could be the additional increase for the membership. I mentioned that I was never notified by mail or email and that if he could find out and he promised he would get back to me by the end of the day. While he did not and I waited three (3) days. I decided to called him back to find out what happened. He told me that membership services still had not gotten back to him and that he will call them again on that day to get a status and than he would call me back. I waited another week and still no call back. When I went to the gym I approached Brett again on the status and he gave me the same excuse that he has still had not gotten a call from membership services. So when I went home I called membership services myself and lord and behold in 3 minutes, I was able to speak to a representative and get the answers to my questions. So, I called Brett the assistant manager, and explained to him that it took me 3 minutes to get answers to my questions, and why was I given the run around for a week and a half. He became very defensive and with that response, I decided to cancel my membership. I went to the fitness center the next day, signed a form of cancellation and wasn't even consulted of given an apology. They were very cold. This is why I would never recommend Equinox, especially the fitness center in Paramus, NJ. I hope upper management will take the time to train the management and its people who basically use the fitness center as their own private gym, on how they should treat their members, especially that their membership monthly fee is ridiculously over priced. read more

I usually go to several of the Equinox's in NY but was in the area and decided to check out this new location. Nice big space, which was great (although led me to wonder why there isn't a pool). There was a class going on in the parking lot when I arrived, which I thought was weird. It's great that they have the space to do workouts outside but they should have set aside some outdoor space specifically for classes rather then have the class be in the of the parking lot - I for one don't want to work out next to cars pulling in and out directly around me. The spin room is a good size but the lights don't turn completely off, which seemed to bother the instructor. I took a spin class with a NY instructor who just came in for this one "master class." There were a large number of members who couldn't get into this class because it was full and there was alot of discussion going on in the locker room about why Equinox didn't hold 2 back to back spin classes so more people could get in. There was also some discussion about the limited number of classes being offered in general, something I noticed and wAs confused about since I would have liked to take a second class when I was there. Hopefully something like this will improve with time. read more
