To whom it may concern; We are founding members of the Montvale New Jersey Lifetime Fitness. We've have enjoyed the club for over 12 years. We know that we are paying a premium price/dues and felt that the facilities and service were worth it. However, things have changed over the past few years. The bottom line is that we are still paying premium prices, but no longer getting premium service. We used to refer all of our friends to this club, but in good conscience we no longer refer. The machines are not well maintained, and when one is taken out of service it can take 4 to 6 weeks to repair. A number of the TV 's around the club have faulty feeds so pictures are intermittent. Many of the screens on elliptical and treadmills do not work. This situation has gone on for over a year, and management has been informed many times over these issues. The club has oversold its membership so that parking is a problem. Aurora classes are always waitlisted. I utilize your personal training services weekly and most recently, I spoke to the General manager, Dominick Delli Paoli, about a situation that has persisted for years. I am referring to classes that take place in the middle of the exercise floor. The instructor, Micah, blasts the music so loudly that I can't even hear my personal trainer and the sound is so loud that it is offensive. She lowers the music when she is giving her group instruction and then returns to the blasting music. I've spoken to management during the year and nothing has changed. Yesterday, I went to Dominick's office to request that he has the music lowered. I was shocked by his response. When I explained my request, he replied,"I will not do that!" He was rude and dismissive. I am stunned that the General Manager of an upscale club be so rude to his members. He sat at his desk and did nothing. I went back to my personal training very upset to be treated so poorly. I have been going to this gym for years. Over the course of time I have seen the quality of care deteriorate. 1. They continue to admit members when they have filled the gym with pre-existing members. Often times I found myself waiting for 1 of 45 treadmills to be available. 6 of them would probably out of service with no warning sign on it. 2. As far as the sauna, be prepared to be joined by 15 men. 1 of which will be taking a business call. 3. You will see a 45lb dumbbell placed in a 15lbs dumbbell spot on the rack because people don't understand how to put things back. 4. Lastly, their locker room is disgusting. My friend got Plantar Warts walking once barefoot. Towels are everywhere, locker room attendants are hitting their vapes. I rarely write reviews, which should tell you how compelled I feel to share our experience at Life Time Bergen County. We've been Life Time members for years and previously used another club where the staff were consistently friendly. I won't dwell on the facilities here--fees are high, amenities feel dated (though I know upgrades are underway), and comparable clubs in other high-cost areas offer more. That's not my main concern. My issue is the pattern of rude behavior at the front desk and the lack of awareness and follow-through from management. Most troubling, my child recalls being called "illegalist kid in the world" by someone wearing a Life Time jersey in the Kids Club. I reported this to both management and the Kids Club manager. There was no follow-up. My child stopped going for a while--especially disappointing since the Kids Club was a big reason we joined. I also notice a clear difference in how people are treated. We continue to go because it's convenient, not because I want to spend my hard-earned money where discriminatory behavior is tolerated or customer service concerns are ignored. For what it's worth, not all Life Time locations are like this--our experience at other clubs has been much better. A BLACK STAIN ON THIS LUXURY FRANCHISE. Lifetime in Monvale NJ has gone down hill... into a pit...reaching the depth of HELL. I travel to many Lifetimes across the country and this one is the filthiest, and worst managed gym. The bathrooms are not maintained. The recovery equipment smells of bioHell and half are broken. There are always multiple cardio machines down. They crammed the Alpha classes right in the heart of weight equipment which makes finding workout space near impossible. They are over crowded for the amount of equipment they have, so good luck finding a machine to use. The saunas smell like a swass experiment with a fungal disease. Our son gave us a membership to Lifetime a few years ago as a gift. We love this club and the staff is amazing Dan and Justin who was recently promoted are extremely helpful, respectful and treat people like family. We had a beach house for many years and actually sold it because this facility is more like a country club than a gym with its outside pool, hot tub and snack bar there was no need to have a second home to maintain. Writing this review as I unfortunately had a terrible experience here. Due to a negligent nanny that did not watch a baby in the pool, but instead watched a movie on her phone, I had to say something to her. This baby floated all over the pool, no lifeguards or anyone else at Litetime said a word either. I approached the nanny and expressed her negligence/my concern. Fast forward to the next 2 days, I see Lifetime is calling me. I immediately pick up and say "oh I'm so glad you're calling I need to share something with you regarding a worrisome experience I had and I'm really worried about the safety of this small baby at the gym". I explained the entire situation, to then be told I was going to be terminated for sharing. Rather than even be upset, I said that's fine. I would never recommend this place. I'm not bitter or upset that I'm not a member after this incident- I'm upset on how they handled this situation. They weren't professional with me and never expressed their concern regarding safety, which is very important to me in any establishment. read more

Kids academy is unsafe for young kids. Everything they said in the tour about adhering to ratios and keeping toddlers separated from older kids isn't true. Very minimal supervision, mostly teenagers with more kids than they could possibly manage. I emailed the GM about it, no response. They also added a fraudulent swim membership to our account and keep charging us even after canceling our Life Time membership. Rest of the gym is nice, its about double the price of what it's worth but its run like a low end Planet Fitness. Equinox is 100x nicer and well managed, not even close. read more

I'm upgrading from 3 to 4 stars. After my first in-person visit, this place is large with many machines, indoor and outdoor (for add'l fee usually), basketball court which also doubles for pickleball courts, cafe, spa, etc. There are a few (5?) pilates reformers, but I think for add'l fee. The front desk gentleman was helpful with our questions. There are a lot of youthful (high school and college) looking employees especially around the outdoor pool and that is where one annoying hiccup occurred. Since I was exploring the gym, I wanted to see the outdoor pool, which they asked me to scan my membership to see what outdoor benefits I have. I was told that I get one included visit to the outdoor pool, then would have to pay. I said I was just checking things out today and didn't want to use my outdoor pool visit today and the young gentleman said I am good, I still have the benefit. Later I see an email saying that I've used it and to contact them if I want to continue using the outdoor pool. I highlight this because, along with my first phone call to this facility, I've received inaccurate or not useful information. I figure as I get past being a newbie here, I'll figure out the ins and out myself and just enjoy the nice facility. For picklers, as mentioned, courts are on the basketball court with portable nets. Serving areas are narrower and there are no dividers between courts. Lines take a bit to get used to. I thought their balls were ok. When checking in, seems everyone lines up on the door side wall on the basketball court. read more

After being a member here for 2 years I decided to quit. While the gym is very nice as well as the outdoor pools a lot of times the equipment like the steam room would be down for weeks at a time. During the summer the outdoor pool is great but with so many people joining just to use the pool it becomes very crowded and the staff can't keep up with the cleaning after so many people and the locker room suffers. Went to this gym because they accepted OnePass. After one year of ballooning crowds, increasingly dirty locker rooms, waiting for machines...they tell us that they're no longer taking OnePass- and they can give us the fantastic "deal" of a 35% price hike. Not only that they were constantly calling because they have a waitlist and were clearly eager to free up my membership for someone willing to pay more. I joined a gym closer to home - less expensive, clean, uncrowded and management that clearly appreciates my business. I would say don't bother but you probably can't join anyway. read more

I've been going to this gym for almost 10 years and have seen it change for the worse. To start, I have a degree in exercise science, several fitness certs, and years of experience working in the sports and fitness industry. The trainers at this gym scare me and I would not trust them nor their knowledge of exercise. They push supplements and GLP-1 drugs which is counterintuitive to personal training and helping people build healthy habits. ACSM accredited certifications (like NASM) teach a bottom up approach with supplements being the last thing a client needs and peddling supplements is not within the trainer's scope of practice. The fact that they use the acronym "DPT" also does not sit right with me. DPT is mean for physical therapists who are actually doctors. Life Time using their own version of this acronym seems misleading and manipulative. Now to the facilities, which have also declined. Starting outside the gym there's no parking anymore and getting from the parking lot to the door requires you to risk your life. They thought changing the traffic pattern would do something when that was never an issue. There issues in the lot are 1) people are driving like maniacs going 40mph around blind turns and 2) people parking their huge lifted trucks backwards so you can't see past their hood when backing out. The parking lot is too small to handle the massive trucks and suvs these crazy drivers drive. If you survive the walk and make it to the door, you are scanned in by the rudest front desk people and almost guaranteed to hear loud music and screaming fitness instructors. They have added about 6 new types of classes on the fitness floor because they prioritize profit over people. The point of the fitness studios is that classes take place in there and the rest of the gym is for members looking to do their own thing. There is absolutely no place to workout on the fitness floor. I went one day with my mother and we brought this issue up to one of the managers Dominick and he basically gaslit us saying we should've come at a different time and those people are paying members. Well we are also paying members and we come at the time we come at because that works for our schedule. If you can find space on the fitness floor, you have to work between droves of roided up teenagers and kids who are under the age of who's allowed in the free weight area. The locker room and pools are disgusting too. The locker bays are soaked and I've seen mold in the showers. The pools have hair balls floating around and the elderly are always taking up lanes floating around rather than using the area meant for wading. I never feel safe in these areas either because they let people take pictures of themselves. I one time watched a girl make a TikTok in the locker room while naked women AND CHILDREN were walking around. My last and probably biggest gripe with this gym is the blatant racism and bigotry that is allowed by both patrons and staff. Point blank people here are racist. You'll see people wearing racist MAGA stuff all over and I swear they do it to get a rise out of people. I have also over heard a lot of racism. A few years ago, this white woman called a woman of color an animal in the locker room because she had her child, who was barely walking, in the locker room with her. The white lady unprovoked started yelling at the woman that she was an animal and would damage her son's psyche. What was gonna damage her son's psyche was having a random adult yelling at his mother. A few weeks ago, a man by the pool was making fun of the Hasidic Jewish members who come to the gym by poking fun at their beliefs around men and women keeping from touching. He was asking a woman to share the lane and was mockingly like "oh okay so it's not against your religious beliefs is it? Hahaha". He then proceeded to have a very loud conversation about race with another member where he said he still refers to black people as "Blacks". I brought this up to the club via the chat box on the app and they did not respond. Probably because the staff are racist too. There is one trainer who wears right wing political clothing when working out. It's one thing if it's members but staff should absolutely not be wearing this. What's crazy is they will police what women at this gym are wearing but if it's the men they do not bat an eye. Overall the managements lack of caring for its members and solely caring about money is very telling. I know many people looking to leave. They want this location to be a social club but there is no space for that. I would hope Life Time takes its feedback seriously but considering how I've been met by the managers in the past, I'm highly doubtful. read more

I am a mom of a 9-month old and joined Lifetime largely due to their childcare. During our tour, they promised a 4 to 1 ratio for all children under 1 year old. My first day I made a reservation for my son, but when I arrived he was the 5th child under 1 to one adult. I was not comfortable with their inaccurate childcare representation realized the gym was not a good fit, so we canceled within the first week of membership, which I was told would result in a full refund. We were refunded, but were then AFTER we cancelled we were charged for the next month's membership. We notified Lifetime in August that we were inaccurately billed for a month after we canceled. It is October and I am still waiting for the refund. I am told that Lifetime Montvale cannot process the refund and it needs to be sent to corporate? Communication with staff is confusing and lagging. My one star review is based on their unsafe and inaccurately advertised childcare ratios as well as for their unethical billing practices and poor communication. read more

Now that I have visited Life Time a few times since getting my membership, I can leave a nice review. TLDR: I rate this gym a 5/5. I was a member at Equinox for almost 2 years until I cancelled my membership last year. I worked out a bit at home but realized I really needed that motivation/push to do better, so I inquired about Life Time. I just want to say that if I visited this gym before I visited Equinox, Equinox would not have had me as a member at all. Life Time is everything I wish Equinox was. For the kind of money I was spending there, they didn't have much to offer, especially when they opened the gyms again. What I love so far about Life Time: The facility: It is a LARGE gym, okay. They have two pools indoors and one outdoors (closed for the season but I'm excited to experience it when it gets warmer). They have tons and tons of equipment, so you're never waiting to use anything. There's also a lot of space to stretch (although, may seem intimidating at first). They also have two hot tubs, two saunas, and a wonderful gym locker. It's impossible to feel claustrophobic here. The people: Now, I just joined, so I am still feeling it out but I took a Pilates Fusion and Zumba class tonight with my sister and mother, and when I went to ask a member if she's waiting for the Pilates class, she was super enthusiastic about answering me and welcomed us. She also told the teacher that we were new which brings me to how much of an incredible instructor she was/is (continued below). The staff: I have taken classes before at gyms... this is the first time an instructor has asked for my name and used it during the class (for me, to say good job). The instructor's name is Jenny. She was amazing! Definitely want to take her Pilates Fusion class again. As mentioned before, I am not new to upscale gyms. A lot of people get intimidated about joining gyms because of how expensive it is and they just have preconceived notions about what it's like to be part of an upscale gym (stuck up people, etc). I can truly tell you that compared to my other experiences, the staff is what played a big role in selling me on getting a membership when I visited the first time. They are nice, engaging, and they come across as very genuine. They seem like they really enjoy their jobs. The café: What more can I say? Who doesn't love delicious food? I love that the café is spacious and if you choose to do work here, you can do just that (btw, just reminded myself that I forgot my Mocha Smoothie, don't be like me. Don't leave without your order!) I was a member here for over two years . Same incident happened several times where I was lifting weights and this summer teenage hire boy they had. it kept bothering me with the weights I was using . I would put plates on a machine I would turn around to work with dumbbells or something else while I was in the spot . and he would remove the plates . He kept doing the same thing I told him to let me work out . ( this happened late night when no one else was there pretty much) this silly teenager boy told me I had to leave . . I said that was so not happening . He call the cops on me . And one of his buddies that was working out there . Team up with him against me . Cops made me leave . Few days later corporate call me to hear my side of the story . When I was done they told me my membership was being terminated. . I never had an issue with anyone there .i liked the gym . This gym is top notch. Very clean and has great ammenities. Something for everyone. It would be nice if the saunas were a little hotter about 180 instead of 170. I wanted to love this gym and do for myself. Unfortunately, it's not a good place for my family. They are NOT accommodating if your child has autism. The family changing room only has 2 toilets and is extremely overcrowded at times. You are not allowed to take your child into the female or male locker rooms if they are over 3 years and the opposite gender. Since my son is 6 and I'm a women, we are forced to wait for a toilet and/or shower in an overcrowded space with stimming triggers and bathroom accidents.... possibly only issues another ASD parent would understand. Been a member since before the pandemic. Is it pricey? of course. The reason why my husband and I choose to drive here from 20 mins away it's because of the many amenities and the space of the gym. It's a big space and I've never found equipment to be unavailable. They have so many squatting stations, step masters, treadmills etc. We love knowing that it doesn't matter at what time we come, we will always have the equipment available ready to use. read more

I've been a member here since May and I must say there is no gym like Life Time! They have it all....from awesome equipment to outdoor pools with a water slide? It's pretty legit! I am a member of 24 hour fitness as well and I thought that I was living the life over there but I was very wrong. At Life Time the treadmills provide you with a USB port so you can charge your phone while working out, they blow out cold air at you, and give you the choice to either watch tv or listen to music. I still have yet to try out all the other machines but I will get there! Lol The classes I have taken so far are hot yoga and Barre. Both were great....very challenging & make you feel accomplished after you are done. Not to mention my yoga instructor gave us a free sample of awesome coconut water after class! The cafe is great! They have healthy food choices that are delicious! My favorite is the chicken avocado wrap...highly recommend it. Overall, this gym is amazing. 160 benjamins a month. 35 smackaroos to enter for non-members. Two pools, one outdoors. Garaged parking. Open until midnight, even on weekends. Square footage rivaling a small mall. Vending machine drinks combined calorie count: 15. Weight area is rarely crowded. As a bawler, my main quibble is that lockers need a card--I can't hog 20 of them, as I normally do, to store my gold bricks while working out. The staff flirts with you, but doesn't give out personal phone numbers. Commendable. Join in the summer for the outdoor pool and train for 100m hurdles as there are kids ury-wheres. The basketball courts are VERY slippery and feels like they haven't been waxed in years which makes them a safety hazard. A few machines are partially broken making them barely usable. Many other lifetime gyms exceed this one in expierience as they are renovated and maintained better. The gym is clean and sanitary in most areas.
