Wanted to check back in and say they've gotten rid of the stinky mats. I hope it stays that way and they continue to take good care of them and the equipment. You go up a flight of stairs to go back downstairs to the lockers. The space and layout is different from other Equinox which. Not all Equinox will be alike as far as space and layout. Members should know this by now given all the complaints about this location. The gym is a mid sized gym. Not small like most comments on here. Not sure based on these comments made from people calling out it is small. The layout is a bit different. Yes. The Main Studio feels like a glass while everyone looks at you work out. You see, most Equinox locations I have visited either the main studio is tucked away partially from the gym's floor visibility or has a wall to make it a bit more private. I felt like the main studio at the Williamsburg location everyone from all angles can see you workout. The yoga studio is downstairs. Right across from the women's locker. Would have been nice if the main studio was situated the same as well. My guess is depending what time you visit will depend how less crowded or crowded it is. Personally, I have zero complaints about this location. My only complaint is I dislike those numerical combination lockers. read more

The layout of the gym is a bit strange--it's spacious, but still feels crowded. The setup is kind of awkward. That said, I do like that they have a dedicated yoga room and a main studio for group fitness classes. To get to the locker room, you have to go upstairs, walk across the entire gym, then head back down, which isn't the most convenient. Not to middle child bash but in the EQUINOX BK FAMILY, this sibling must struggle with self esteem issues from the neglect. AC so weak you can read "Turn on the AC" in the fogged up windows. Need to bench? Bring your own bar as someone is using for a wanna be CrossFit hopscotch game. When you drag yourself down to the lovkeroom, as fresh as a bayou in August, after a hurricane. Who puts the toilets next to the VERY busy steam room? Fragrant. No WiFi but no problem because that means the creep taking photos of people changing can't upload. How rude to not be offered an edit!! Need a member advisor, offices right there in the floor and if you're lucky you might see them making out with a member on the desk. Hey, get it where you can! I highly recommend booking yourself some personal training sessions with Dan Eberle. After a month of training with Dan at the Williamsburg Equinox location, I look physically stronger, feel far more confident on the weightlifting floor, and have a newfound motivation to keep going with my fitness journey. Dan is not only extremely kind, but highly professional. He pushed me to my limits in a way I'd never have done on my own, and buying those sessions was an investment in myself that I'll literally never regret. read more

This Equinox is disgusting if you do yoga. Stay after class and watch how they "clean" the mats. They use a gross mop and superficially go over each mat, transferring body fluids from one mat to another without disinfecting the mop. It's literally hygiene theater. The "maintain" staff maintains the bacterial growth on the yoga mats and increases viral count by walking in the yoga room with their shoes on. I have never seen this in any other yoga room at an Equinox besides the Williamsburg location. Be careful and stay vigilant when doing yoga here to decrease your chance of contracting a staph infection because the management here seems to not care about enforcing and maintaining cleanliness and health standards. None of the other Equinox's are like this. I don't know why this location's management can't properly train their staff. Corporate really needs to do something about this location before every yogi in Williamsburg turns into the outbreak monkey. PS I will gladly remove this review if the cleaning protocols are improved. I ain't no hater, just a concerned member. read more

It's a hard Nox life, all things being Equi-al. This Gym is literally on top of the Whole Foods Market in the Hipster area of Brooklyn next to the gorgeous Domino Park. It isn't really in my price range but then I'm probably not moving to Williamsburg anytime soon, because if I was, maybe things like this would be in my price range. I don't know if you really want to work out on top of a Whole Foods but if that's your thing then here you go. We had a nice little tour of this gym but we didn't actually work out here because it didn't seem like they wanted non-members doing actual workouts here which was the main reason we came in actually. read more

Unequivocally the worst equinox location that I have been to. Even the stench of eucalyptus that permeates through every equinox location is not enough to cover the smell of old, neglected, and poorly sanitized equipment. Switched here due to a move, as I am locked into a contract and this is the only location in my neighborhood. This place is on par with a Blink fitness. Save your money. I will be seeing what I can do about getting out of my membership early. read more

This Equinox is close to my apartment and somewhat on my way home so I frequent it maybe 3 times a week and usually on the weekends. It is definitely smaller than the other locations so you won't get lost. All the equipment are in their own sections which is kinda nice. I really enjoy jogging and stretching sections. They have a main studio and small yoga studio downstairs. There are also 3 spots to get water. One by the store, one by the stairs/ main studio entrance and other down stairs by the coat check. However, it is almost always packed full of people. 8 out of 10 times there is just too many people. The steam room is really small and there is a line at the shower half the time. The classes are always booked on the app, but recently I just go and wait outside the class and I get in 85 percent of the time. Besides the overcrowding, it still gives you the equinox feel. Unlimited towels and feeling great when you workout. I say join Equinox but do join another location or the multi-location. Don't really want to share this gym with anymore people... read more

This gym seemed perfect, I live so close, there's one near work. I've been on the fence about joining for quite some time and finally reached out to get information. The membership associate who contacted me was friendly... initially. He then, very unnecessarily belittled a very valid question with a response that reveals the snarky elitism that I'd been warned about. During a time when Equinox is being boycotted for its ownership affiliations, you'd think they would be working towards inclusivity and delivering adequate customer service...very disappointed and hope they do not treat any more prospective members UPDATE: Messaged then an unresolved. This club may have been fine before Williamsburg exploded in population, but as it is now, it is simply too small to comfortably accommodate all of its members. I like Equinox in general and have been members of various Equinox clubs both here and in California. This one is by far the worst, in my opinion. I have stopped trying to go at "peak" hours (which seems to be before work, after work, and at lunch, between 12-2) and in my experience, it is common that no benches are available for free weights, and have to just resort to any open machines that aren't in use (which is annoying, since I prefer free weights). Given the monthly price, this is a real bummer. In conclusion: still a fan of Equinox, just not the Williamsburg branch. It is too small and too crowded. read more

I came in to this location as it is super close to [solidcore], and I had time to kill before my class there. It's as immaculate as any other location, and I made my way through check in and up the stairs. Going to a new location is always daunting as you may not be sure about where everything is situated. Sure enough, I got to the second floor and was immediately concerned as I was put out onto the workout floor. I followed others who also still had their bags on them however and realized that you have to go to the second floor, walk past machines to the back, and descend stairs to get to the locker rooms. Kind of confusing, but not too big of a deal. The locker rooms are great as usual, and my workout was just fine. I was there around prime hours, but it was not overly crowded. I made my way back to the locker room to grab my stuff and made my way over to solidcore after. A super well-rounded workout overall and I will definitely make it back to this location! read more

If you value quality customer service, attention to detail, and secure storage for your belongings - do not join Equinox Williamsburg. It is extremely overcrowded, with unresponsive, inattentive, and disinterested customer service. Context: I was a member since Equinox opened on September 12th, 2016, and ended my membership in July 2018. I completed over 130 private training sessions in 21 months. My PT was the lone bright spot of my experience, although he has left the club so please don't factor that in your decision to join. Crowded: Equinox Williamsburg is incredibly over-crowded, often times it's difficult to even find floor space, let alone access to equipment. You'll frequently hear guests complain about membership capacity, but that does not deter the club from adding more. Customer Service: Equinox is not in the customer service business in any capacity. They are in constant shake-down mode with their members, and they'll make terminating your membership as difficult as possible. Safety / Security: I left my items in a day-use locker overnight (by mistake), and an employee opened my locker and stole valuable items. The club was unwilling to accept any responsibility and accused me of leaving my locker unlocked, even though it was obvious the locker was emptied at night after closing (per usual procedure). We did later find several of my non-valuable items in an employee area. read more

Welcome to the second installment of my Equinox Shower Review Series where I examine the showers in each NYC Equinox location. I assumed that the bathing situation would be the same across locations. Turns out, the shower design in each Equinox locker room is unique, like a fingerprint. Except some fingerprints are large and clean and luxurious and some are small and sad and uncomfortable. Good news for anyone else that's looking for the best Equinox shower experience in NYC (is anybody out there?)--the Williamsburg location is EVEN BETTER than my previously crowned "best" NYC shower at East 92nd St. There are actual full walls in between each stall so you feel like you have your own little room, and there's that extra private space next to the shower area to towel off and lotion up. Okay, I am aware (because two of my friends have worked here) that this place is known as the armpit of most Equinox gyms. However, the access that I was given to this gym floored my expectations. Stuck in Queens, I only had Planet Fitness and one other option. I tried Equinox and immediately was overwhelmed and in love. The price point is the only issue but most NYers do not give a rat's ass. I love this gym. Yes, it's expensive. You knew that walking in. It's in a great location, it's constantly clean, the staff is amazing. The classes kick your butt but you sign up for more anyway. My biggest complaints are the somewhat cramped locker room, and the fact that ALL of the soaps etc in each shower are constantly watered down. Whether it's the staff doing this or the other customers somehow unscrewing the locked down bottles, it takes more than a few pumps of soap to get an actual lather. I didn't even realize how badly the soaps etc. were watered down until I used my $100 credit to the Eqx store to stock up on some Kiehls for home. It's a night and day difference. The showers sometimes stop draining properly and start to fill up, and it's a bit awkward to turn off the shower and wait for it to drain when there's a line of people waiting. Sorry, guys. I'm just trying to get clean. Anyway, I'm happy. I'm the healthiest I've ever been, and I look forward to my next class. read more

I have newly joined Equinox and its one of the best decisions I've ever made. The Williamsburg location is closest to home, and while I haven't explored the other locations that I've heard are a bit more spacious I am extremely satisfied with Williamsburg. High price tag aside, there is no denying its atmospheric superiority to other, less expensive gyms (I've tried Blink, Crunch, NYSC, various boutique studios.) If you simply use machines and don't need any frills, simply don't join. But if you want more than a regular gym, read on. Formerly a Classpass devotee until they switched up the business model, I found myself looking for something new so I could get back to working out 5-6 times a week. Personally, I knew I needed group classes mixed with solo gym time in order to get my butt out the door and see the best results. Paying $30+ a pop per class at various studios was costly and ineffective as I was not sticking to any sort of routine, so I needed a place where my needs could be met all under one roof. After doing my research on various other gyms and taking a tour of Equinox, I was sold. I once again find myself obsessively planning my workouts and looking forward to them - the app is fantastic and user-friendly, the space is very clean, sleek and spacious, and the amenities are top notch. I have not yet seen the gym overcrowded, and I have been going in the mornings at around 8AM and the evenings after 7:30PM. The space is constantly being cleaned and there is an attention to detail here that is to be admired. In terms of classes, so far I have found that most instructors are on par with those at the notable boutique studios (NYP, Y7, YTTP, Pop Physique) and I consistently leave sweaty and satisfied. There have been one or two classes wherein the instructors do not give much guidance, and in one particular "core yoga" class there was barely and flow, just a series of advanced poses taught by a seemingly unfocused instructor. I have taken other instructors, however, and thats definitely not the norm. They do offer "fundamental" classes where they teach the basics, but outside of that I feel that most classes are geared towards the experienced gym-goer. In my eyes this is a plus, but I could understand why this would be frustrating for some. While pricey, I am very happy with my decision to join Equinox. I've yet to have any gym experience where I honestly look forward to going and turn down weeknight happy hours in order to get there (who am I!?) In life you truly do get what you pay for, and when it comes to personal wellness its worth every penny. read more

I'd been going to the Equinox at 76th & Amsterdam in Manhattan for awhile, and made a stop at Equinox Williamsburg for a restorative yoga class after meeting a friend in Brooklyn for coffee. Marketing team or design or whatever - you're on point. This is as "Williamsburg" as an Equinox can get - from the indie music playing during yoga to the dark walls. This gym has issues. On entering the closest bathroom is located in the locker room...... up a flight of steps, across the entire gym floor and down another flight of steps. Someone needs to be smacked in the head for that solution. Walking into the locker room feels kind of nasty past 8pm. The ceilings are low so all the steam from the showers and the steam room stays trapped around the lockers. Floors usually seem dirty and grimy here. Towels are typically all over floor and benches...partly due to a lack of convenient bins....partly due to a crowd of young entitled d-bags with the self involvement of teenagers. So that answers any questions about the crowd. Right? I'm 31 and I still find the crowd to be a bunch of punks. And how can I fairly make this assertion? Because it takes one to know one.......at least I put my used towels away though. The floor design is bad. There's only one section of open floor space most often secured chunks by personal trainers running drills with clients. Otherwise people working out haphazardly as other members walk through to leave the gym. I see the floor trainers often working out themselves rather than cleaning up when the gym's obviously messy. Ok so what's nice? Well it's new for sure but my FAVORITE part....Whole Foods next door so it's easy to get a smoothie or quick grocery items. read more

The front door staff in this gym is abysmally rude. I've had a number of rude morning exchanges (not on my end) with the ladies who work the front desk but always brushed them off, but this morning I had enough. Post the Trump support rally news I canceled my membership but was told I had to pay for 45 days of membership plus my $1,200 package in personal training sessions would not be refunded to me. I was angry about it but decided to just use up my sessions as much as possible until the 45 days are up. This morning was the first time I set foot in the gym after letting the managers know I was quitting. The moment I walked in with my sunglasses on I had my phone scanned (for access) and turned around to grab a bottle of water which I had to then pay for. While I was turning one of the ladies there (who NEVER acknowledge anyone's presence) finally said "good morning" to me. Because I was grabbing a bottle of water and was not facing her I did not respond. She immediately proceeded to cynically and somewhat loudly say "Or not" (meaning or not to the good morning since you did not bother to respond). I could not believe my ears. Not only were these ladies always rude and dismissive but now I had to speak back to them the moment I walk in or else they will get sassy with me. I confronted them and they all started pointing fingers to one another blaming the other one for the comment. Immediately went to a manager to let them know what had happened to me. The manager was useless. He actually managed to make me feel even more uncomfortable by asking me to step into a room and then blocking the exit with his body so I felt trapped in there when I was done telling him my story (at no point did he tell me what his plan was or solution and just apologized). I had to ask him to move so I could leave the office (which was dark and had no lights on). This place is ran by people who have no clue what customer service means and it shows. This place makes working out so difficult. Impossible to get into any classes the day of the class. You have to sign up the day before to get a spot and have to cancel at least 3 hours before or you'll be penalized - not a good fit for someone with a rapidly changing work schedule. I would cancel but they make you sign a 12 month contract. If you love paying out the a$$ for something you get nothing out of them come here! read more

I've been a loyal Equinox member for years, and have regularly worked out at several locations, including Brooklyn Heights, 93rd Street, and the West Village. Overall, I've been disappointed with the new Equinox in Williamsburg, which is a bummer, because I was over the moon when they announced plans to open it. There aren't many great alternatives in the area, but read on before you sign up: Good: -The location is beautiful and spotless, and the equipment is very rarely broken. I can't overstate how nice it is to exercise in a clean, well-maintained environment. -The vibe on weekday mid-mornings is great and very quiet; I make an effort to come during this time when I can (although rarely feasible if you work regular hours). -A comprehensive class schedule, if that's your thing, including hot yoga and a bunch of crazy looking aerobics stuff. Not good: -Extremely busy and overcrowded on weekday mornings, evenings, and weekends. Like, unpleasantly packed with people, which is a particular problem in the locker rooms because of the way they're designed. Honestly, it feels like they oversold the club and it sucks. I've stopped going on Saturdays because it's just unpleasant. -The layout is very odd, and involves climbing up and down multiple staircases to get to the locker room and then back to the workout area. Not a huge deal, but kind of puzzling. -The treadmills SHAKE if you have someone running directly next to you, and they can shake VERY hard if that person has a heavy gait or is running really fast. This is such a bizarre and irritating problem, and must be because of the flooring they installed. It drives me insane. -Some of the TVs on the treadmills are all static and don't seem to get a signal. -The club doesn't appear to have a no-phone-call policy, so I've had people yapping on their phones on machines next to me. This is just rude, and no one who works at the club seems to care. I've seen other clubs with signs posted to ask that people avoid talking on their phones, this location should do the same. -The stretching and foam rolling area is really small, and often too full to use. -No cafe or food offerings, fyi. This location is horrible. They need new management. Trainers stand around harassing for sessions. One manager told my friend he had to pay to come in even though he is a member at another equinox (I think his name is Sarah). Training sessions are over $100 per session but the trainers don't know anything. I joined because I'm based in Bushwick and figured I could jump off the L on the way to or from work and get a quick workout in. First off, to say that the management team here in incompetent is being kind. The guy who was assigned to my account sent me no less than 10 individual emails, even after I'd already responded to him on the original chain (and I'm not exaggerating). He couldn't (or wouldn't) answer the most basic of questions. I finally just went in person and spoke to Steve (?) who I think is the general manager? The original guy I was working with is no longer with the company - I emailed him a question and got a bounceback (shouldn't most companies reroute the email so people don't get bouncebacks? Seems super unprofessional to me but I digress). Ok fine, I got all signed-up finally. Now to take some classes - I'm pretty happy with the roster of classes BUT to echo some other members - there is ALWAYS a waitlist. You'd think that if certain classes were always booked, they would consider expanding their offering? No worries, I'm a planner so I just make sure to set an alert and book a spot. Lastly, for some reason when I check in, it doesn't scan. I'm not sure if it's something wrong with my barcode or if the staff at the front door doesn't understand how to properly scan people in. This has happened not once but TWICE. I then received emails stating that I had a strike on my account for missing a class that I was in fact in and had the sore muscles to prove. I emailed Ali who is an assistant manager (I think?) and she was INSANELY rude. Like, sent me the strike information (a huge 1K+ word email) followed by something to the effect of "glad we're on the same page." First off, it was their mistake. Secondly, I am an adult, I do not need to be spoken to like a child. tl;dr: I can deal with the less-than-luxe offerings that some of the other posters pointed out. I can deal with planning my workout 26 hours in advance. What I cannot deal with is horribly rude and incompetent staff. I may go here on the weekends when I don't want to go all the way into the city but will be taking my weekday workouts to the Bryant Park location where the staff knows their elbows from their you-know-whats. read more

For over a year now, I have been an Equinox member and been under the all access plan. Now that I work from home majority of the week I began searching for one gym to focus all of my energy on. Williamsburg is the closes to me "walking/running" distance wise, but that didn't mean I would automatically choose this location. After a week of consistently going I must say I am thoroughly impressed with the staff. Very friendly. Very clean atmosphere. Professional and at the right moments conversational. I enjoy spending my mornings here. It's the perfect start to a day. I will update this post once I start taking classes. read more
