Dr. Dorninger is absolutely amazing. He was my ninth doctor in a long, exhausting journey to figure out a mystery illness. I'm an out-of-state client, and before finding him, I had already tried just about everything--coffee enemas, colonics, sauna, ozone, peptides, various detox protocols. I've been a patient at Roots and Branches for about 15 years (not consistently, but my first visit was about 15 years ago). I honestly think Dr. Dorninger has saved my life at least twice. At one point I was so ill I was bed ridden for a year and a half and saw over 50 doctors. I eventually got to the Mayo clinic, and the Dr. there told me to give up ever feeling better and just find someone to treat my symptoms. I was not about to roll over and die when I had two young kids at home! Dr. Dorninger figured out through an obscure blood test that I had toxic levels of SEWAGE in my blood!!! Gross!!! I went to Dr. Dorninger for migraines, nerve pain, fatigue, and brain fog. The first two visits cost $1200 because he spent hours explaining everything in excessive detail. I felt like he was having a debate with the rest of the medical community and I was a passive observer, only at my own expense. I went along with his testing and plan. I spent around $3,000 on tests. He was particular about having tests done only through providers he approved. His lab called me on a Friday afternoon with false results of a very high hemoglobin and hematocrit level that would put me at risk for a stroke. I was alarmed and did everything I could to reach Dr. D. and couldn't get through. Ultimately, I went to the ER to get retested on the weekend, showing the test done at D.'s office was wrong. He confirmed CIRS or mold sensitivity. This led to mold testing our house. We spent $500 on Mold Inspection Sciences to take mold samples which were negative except some evidence of mold where material touched bare ground in the crawl space. This wasn't convincing evidence for house-induced illness, but no matter, Dorninger wanted another set of tests, around $700 for HERTSMI (swiffer surface) by Envirobiomics. These came back positive, but many consider this test controversial, especially the EPA. All Dr. D. wanted was to have his man, Dillon from EcoTreck inspect materials in my house for mold. Dillon found some mold where fiberglass insulation touched the ground in the crawl space and a tiny bit next to the bathtub. Importantly, he missed the actual source of my trigger, our big house plants that had a kelp-based fertilizer that was growing mold, that I discovered months after EcoTreck completed their remediation. Roots and Branches relies entirely on Dillon at EcoTreck's findings, thus wasting $1,200 on other tests in order to appear to avoid conflicts of interest. There is however, a huge conflict of interest. Dillon confessed that he and his family receive free medical care from Dr. Dorninger. Dillon views Dr. D. as his boss, rather than the homeowner whom he is serving. My family and I moved into an AirBnB for a couple of months while EcoTreck did their work cleaning up the crawl space and tearing out our bathroom. I returned home after the remediation only to find that my symptoms resumed. They had missed the main mold source, the big potted plants right in front of them. I had one last appointment with Dr. D. in which he said, "Either you are lying or Dillon is lying and I know Dillon doesn't lie." I couldn't believe he accused me of lying about my house and my symptoms. In nursing, we are taught that the patient is the center of the care team. In the Dorninger school of thought, he is at the center and only he understands what is going on. Dr. Dorninger gave me cholestyramine as a mold toxin binder. It gave me the worst migraine of my life. I remained balled up under the covers wincing in pain. He tried various other things, but always wanted me to go back to cholestyramine since nothing else was working. Dr. D. persisted that the only way I would get better would be to take cholestyramine. He threatened, "You will end up with dementia in a nursing home" if I didn't do what he said. From the beginning, he said, "I am the coach, Phil Jackson, and you are the star player, Michael Jordan. I don't care how good you are, I call the shots. I need you to do exactly what I say or I cannot work with you." This created great emotional distress for me from the beginning because I knew my body well and had tried many things. I have had severe eczema and asthma my whole life. I had already severely restricted my diet and done everything I could to modify my lifestyle, and now someone was telling me I needed to put my bodily intuition aside and only listen to him. In the end, I left Roots and Branches and slowly got better on my own, doing the things I had always done, sniffing out triggers and eliminating possibilities. We found mold under our plants that 3 different inspection companies missed. After getting rid of our house plants, my symptoms decreased by about 50%. The more time that passed since having the Moderna vaccine, the less symptoms I had. Ultimately, I was confirmed by other doctors as being on the Ehlers-Danlos hypermobility spectrum, having MCAS, cervico-cranial instability and Chiari malformation which contributes greatly to migraines. Dr. Dorninger saw only one thing - CIRS - and felt that every doctor but him had it wrong. It is the classic case of the hammer sees a nail, but in this case, it is a very expensive, very arrogant hammer. Dr. Dorninger presented himself as a mystery illness detective, but he didn't actually unravel the mystery and stopped looking for other problems as soon as he found CIRS. I have just begun working with Dr. D and wanted to write a review of the beginning of the process with him, to which I can add to later on once we've gotten some results. First off, his staff are hands down 5-stars. Brittania in particular has been so incredibly helpful every single time I have had contact with her, which has been quite often while setting up all my labs. She is always positive and bubbly, even when I need to call back 3 times to make changes to appointments. That kind of patience and manner is hard to find these days, and is so appreciated when dealing with something as intimate as your health. I was recommended to Dr. D by a friend who had great results with him after years of struggling with other doctors. I have had health problems for years, and have struggled with traditional medicine (Western and Eastern). I have seen countless doctors and specialists, had numerous tests and scans done, and yet no one had been able to tell me why I was suffering so much day-in and day-out. I was able to schedule my free 15 min phone consultation with Dr. D about 10 days out from calling in, and in that time was able to give him a general overview of my situation. He was immediately excited about my case and was very validating and encouraging. I met with him again over the phone about two weeks later for our 2 hour diagnostic appointment, and I have never felt so heard by a doctor. He listened to my entire story in detail, asked numerous questions, and seemed to really care what was going on with me. He genuinely wanted to find an answer. He validated my struggles. He gave me hope. I have just scheduled all my labs (which, in honesty, were numerous) and my follow up. I will follow up in my review after my follow up appointment. This is not an inexpensive process, but when you have tried anything and you still feel awful every single day, unable to function in normal day to day activities, it feels 100% worth it. Sticker shock is real with this practice, but having seen all the doctors and tried all the things in the past, I can honestly say I wish I had done this sooner instead. The tests being conducted are specific and targeted to my problems, as opposed to the same standard panels being run repeatedly by traditional doctors. I feel confident these tests will unveil something I haven't known before, and will direct me towards the source of my issues. If you have the ability to see Dr. D, I'd say do it. I waited about a year to post a review for Roots & Branches because I didn't want the review to be purely emotionally. Prior to seeing Dr. Doringer I had seen many doctors for my mysterious symptoms and it was a last hope effort. I was looking for help and was committed to finding an answer. Right off the bat, the prices to speak with anyone in the office are very high for an average middle class person. It's my health though so I was willing to do whatever it took. Dr. D was an hour late to our first appointment and then 30 minutes to the second appointment. Their rules state though that if you are late you will be charged. I went through my health history with Dr. D and he is quite a character. He ordered about $8,000 worth of tests (sleep test, saliva, hair, MRI, allergy, blood, stool) which looking back I think it was a little crazy to order everything at once with no regard to out of pocket cost for the person. I was diagnosed with Biotoxin allergy, thyroid issues, Lyme Disease and White Matter Brain disease. You can only imagine the emotion that went on when hearing this. They put me on 16 different pills that I needed to take a day. When I had an allergic reaction and was rushed to Urgent Care they said my body was rejecting being on so many medicines. I don't usually even take aspirin. This was a very frightening experience and if I wanted to talk to the Dr about it I would have to pay $350 with an appointment. I do have to say gratefully Genieve spoke with me for free about all the meds. I have to mention that Genieve and Bethany are very kind and empathic humans. Dr. D I did not feel the same about. I stopped taking all the pills they put me on after making the decision that Roots and Branches and Dr. D were more harmful than helpful and saw an Infectious Disease doctor. I understand the thought process between Western and Holistic is different but when this new doctor went through the binder of the $8,000 worth of testing results I had he just kept shaking his head. He said he was familiar with Dr. Doringer and had seen other patients that felt hopeless after seeing such a doctor. In the end he said it was all BS other than the Lyme Disease. I definitely have Lyme and have been getting treated for it. I always felt when I walked into the door at Roots & Branches they had already decided I had this biotoxin issue they just needed to convince me of it so I could throw my money at it. Also, after getting a second opinion I do not have a brain disease. All in all, my experience at Roots & Branches was traumatic to say the least. read more

Dr. Dorninger is saving my life. Before becoming his patient, I'd been getting progressively sicker for years. I'd been to all kinds of doctors. I'd been hospitalized. I'd had procedures done. I'd been medicated. I developed a daily routine of incredible illness, pain, anxiety and depression that was only spiraling downward. I even became super familiar with what digested blood looked like leaving the body and for some reason everyone was still telling me there was nothing wrong with me. My experience with R and B started out hopeful. After having all my labs done, doctor Dorninger told me a zillion things were wrong with me, high cortisol, reactions to several foods, high histamine, etc., but he could not tell me why. I left in tears. They put me on a diet to help heal up my gut. It involved high doses of fish oil. I could not tolerate the fish oil, it seemed to make my brain fog and gut symptoms worse (what I would later learn was a sign of herxing). I did not understand the importance of the fish oil, and i thought it was making me worse so I stopped. A month goes by, my gut symptoms are getting worse, my anxiety and depression sky rockets. I see Doctor Dorninger again, he spends the majority of the appointment talking about himself. He then asks me point blank if I have ever been bit by a tick or exposed to mold. I could not recall being bit by a tick but we had mold in my apartment. He told me I had biotoxin illness and that was from mold exposure. All of my symptoms were caused by biotoxin exposure. I later learned via another lab that I had co-infections for babesia and bartanella, tick born illnesses, I feel like Doctor Dorninger should do more to find out if his patients biotoxin illness is from mold or lyme/co-infections and or both. Tick exposure can go unnoticed and lots of people do not get rashes. Please do more to find out if the exposure if from both mold and or lyme. I also found out via another lab that I had sibo, but this was several months later. I started csm but did not tolerate it well, it made my symptoms worse so i stopped taking it. This is something that I would like Roots and Branches to have told me about, that it can make you feel worse, it does not mean you are being exposed to the biotoxin again. Also, I wish I had known the importance of fish oil for treating cirs and tolerating CSM better, because I took csm and welchol for months without fish oil and it destroyed my gut. Overall, my experience with Roots and Branches was okay. I think that Katie and Genevieve are wonderful assets to the team, Geneieve is incredibly knowledgeable and Katie has a sweet disposition, but I think Doctor Dorninger could work on being more personable. I feel like he did not take the time to understand my case history (I wrote a letter talking about my past health to indicate the poor state of my gut), I feel like they could have done more to tell me about the importance of fish oil, that CSM could make me worse and this is normal. I think that as a team, they should have done more to heal up my gut before getting me ready to detox, because my body was not ready for it and did not handle it well. Also, they could have told me beneficial ways to detox, like infared sauna or acupuncture. Doctor Dorninger told me during a phone consult once that acupuncture would not get rid of biotoxins, so do not even try it. Thanks. I have now been doing acupuncture for a few weeks, almost a year and a half later and find it immensely helpful. Last, he could have told me the first time he saw me, after seeing all of my labs that it was possible i was getting sick from mold and that i should get out of said apartment. I knew I had mold in my apartment, but like many lay people, I had absolutely no idea the health effects it could have on people. In that last month before I figured out what was going on, I watched my health plummet, and my anxiety and depression sky rocket, I was getting determentally worse despite all my efforts and i had no idea why. I was terrified. I wish that doctor Dorninger had told me sooner. So for future patients, please learn from this. I only want other people to receive the best care. Dr. Eric Dorninger is a really nice guy, I trusted him and the clinic to have my best in mind. I first saw them in 2013 and have been recommending people to see him in a very regular basis. I have personally paid for myself and my partner to go through the clinics procedures and have been buying out supplements there for the past four years. Today, I decided to go in and redo a candida cleanse program which requires me to buy $390 worth of supplements. Putting us at about $3,000 spend at their shop over the past four years. I asked to have a print out of the dietary restrictions and food guidelines and they said I had to schedule a $95 one hour appointment in order to have that document re-sent. So, spending $400 on supplements and offering to pay for the copies was not a good enough reason for them to give me what they once gave me in order for the cleanse to be a success. I returned everything. I will happily buy the supplements from our local shop in Michigan. So, yes, we have continued to buy our supplements from them even though we moved 1,200 miles away. That will no longer be the case. I have also been recommending someone once every few months to go to their clinic for the past four years. That will also no longer be the case. Eric's wife Sarah is the person who refused to give me the document. So it wasn't just an employee... it was the owners wife, who is also probably an owner of the business. My opinion now is that this business has changed just like Boulder has changed in the last few years. They really didn't care about me, only my money. And when I returned all $390 worth of supplements-- no effort was done to make me happy. My cash was handed back and they sent me on my way. See, I paid for that document in 2013. It wasn't like I was asking for anything for free and it's their policy to require me to see the nutritionist. Do not go here. They just want your money. read more

Before being diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) I've been blessed with no major health issues. Prior to seeing Dr. Dorninger and his staff at Roots & Branches Integrative Health Care, I was experiencing severe RA symptoms daily. I have had hip issues for years. It's always been painful when I run. I've been an avid practitioner and teacher of yoga and often would treat myself that way, and went to chiropractors to address this issue. He basically diagnoses everyone with mold illness. Some people do have it but many dont. I went in complaining of extreme fatigue and told him I was concerned about my adrenal and thyroid health - key players in fatigue/ energy. He said no no it's mold illness. I did the whole Shoemaker protocol, took loads of medications which I hate doing and spent 20k$ on meds, appointments, re testing labs every 5 minutes, etc. 1 year later I felt worse so I went to someone else. I first went to Dr. Eric in 2011, the year I moved here to Colorado. I was suffering with extremely high blood pressure so he used his day off to see me to explain his program and how he felt he could help me by getting blood, stool, saliva and urine samples to provide a diagnosis. I do believe my visits with him not only saved my life once, but twice! At 61, I am now at my High School weight, feel great and have so much energy! We did it all naturally by me staying away from the foods that were causing me to be ill. I listened, I followed his dietary instructions to the letter and we were able to heal my illnesses without prescription drugs. How was I to know that gluten, dairy and eggs were killing me, that I had leaky gut and Hashimoto's thyroid disease? I've had my thyroid checked for what? Maybe 30 years only to find out our medical system doesn't run all the thyroid tests, just one which always checked out normal. This disease left unchecked can cause so many other illnesses! After the big rain storm a few years back, Dr. Eric's office called and wanted to run some tests for mold. We discovered a staff infection in my nose and how mold sensitive my body is. Just recently in my September 2017 tests, my blood work was again so good, but he asked why I would be anemic which we had never had to deal with before. He told me to get a colonoscopy asap (my first one ever) which then led to my colon cancer diagnosis. I am writing this review fresh out of the hospital after surgery to remove a tumor in my ascending colon. Without Dr. Eric's help and advice, I can't imagine what my life would be like down the road. If you are suffering with obesity, high blood pressure, thyroid or possible mold issues, would like to get off prescription medications or your doctors just can't figure out why you aren't feeling well, I would recommend my discovered doctor and dear friend, Dr. Eric. In contrast to 6 weeks of deteriorating health & astronomic expenses w/Eric Dorninger, I've healed steadily in the last 10 days w/ a new doctor for 1/23 of the price. When I confronted Dorninger & staff about initial costs being more than twice what was quoted to me on phone w/no end in sight + alarming physical symptoms, they dismissed me with excuses, handed me inefficacious powders and told me to be "patient." All is I can say is that I am very sad that I ever went to Eric Dorninger at Roots and Branches. It has been 2 years now and I am having difficulty getting back to my normal self. He did extensive testing, including on my 1st visit 30 tubes of blood, urine test, stool test, saliva test, followed up by many other tests and imaging scans, many of which I never heard, didn't need, nor could do anything about, so why know. Very few of these tests had anything to do with why I was there. The testing was followed by $100's of dollars in supplements. Unknown to me, some of the blood tests were for genetic testing done without my permission or knowledge. I never would have allowed genetic testing and was told of results that were very troubling and for sure did not want to hear. I am watching my mother die of one of the things he genetically tested me for which greatly upset me even though I may or may not be affected by these genes. I spent $1000's of dollars out of my pocket and am no better off now; in fact I am worse due to the unhealthy anxiety and mental trauma caused to me by him. Our family has been very happy with Dr. Dorninger's care. Both of my young adult daughters were stricken with Biotoxin illness, and he was the first doctor we had found to actually help us! I cried on the phone when my youngest was able to schedule an appointment with Dr. D. Anyone who's been through a relatively unrecognized illness like this can understand how frustrating it is to go from doctor to doctor, without getting answers and often having physicians insinuate or outright say that it's all in your head. Dr. D doesn't just take a thorough history of symptoms and exposures, but also relies on a lot of bloodwork, urinalysis, and saliva tests to get to the bottom of what is causing the symptoms.
