I rented from Eric Goodman when I first moved to New York. I have since lived in multiple apartments, rentals and those that I have owned, and I can assure you that Eric Goodman and his company were the least professional, even sleaziest realty corporation I have ever worked with. My apartment, which I just checked out on Streeteasy, was in a state of shameful disrepair nearly 20 years ago, with poorly maintained appliances, a bathroom with grouting coming out and moldy, etc. Well, it still looks the same - even the stove. This review is to appreciate how seamless the move-out was (just like the move-in.) Matt worked with the LL to secure an agreeable listing date, move-out date, inspection for us to get the security back. Coordinated with the Super (Neville is a gem) to get the place fixed up for the new in-coming tenants and gave us a letter of reference for our new place. I rented an apartment from these guys a few years ago, and I recently moved out. I started searching for my first apartment towards the end of 2020 and it was not a great experience. Dealing with pushy realtors,looking at apartments that did not match the pictures and the lies I was told made it even worse. Just when I was about to give up I found a listing with the ERIC GOODMAN REALTY CORP and I am so happy i contacted them. They introduced me to Jen Lewis who is absolutely amazing. She is attentive smart caring genuine and most importantly HONEST. She knew this was my first time renting without me even telling her lol and she went above and beyond to make sure everything went smoothly. While he was unable to give me my first choice of apartment as someone beat me to it, he reached out to me first when another apartment in the same building opened up. My only complaint is that my rent went up just because the new people moving in the building don't know how to negotiate theirs and somehow that reflected mine come lease renewal. I had no issues with the apartment I ended up renting but this 'management' company is very sketchy. They collect a broker fee in cash for unlocking an apartment that I found on my own. Plus they are not even supposed to take a fee as the management company which is probably why they keep it untraceable. Then, they 'manage' your apartment by ignoring any issues you may have. Both Eric and Matt are great to work with. Matt found me my apt - and Eric managed the building. Eric was great because he really cared about his tenants. Whenever I had an issue with my apt (nothing major at all - just typical wear and tear) he and his team (Ariel - the amazing super in my building) were on it. I was under the impression that when I put a deposit down on an apartment with Eric Goodman Realty, that the apartment would be taken off the market. I guess I was wrong. Eric Goodman Realty and the building owners that they represent (307 E. 89th Street LLC) do not value their word. My boyfriend and I were approved for an apartment, had scheduled a time to sign the lease, and had even obtained cashier's checks when we received an email from Matt Goodman that the owner decided to give the apartment to a long time tenant who wanted to switch apartments. * This is a NO STAR review, but I have to chose 1 star in order to post. This guy Matt is totally useless. I made an appointment with him to check out one of their apartments. Right from the get go he had a bit of an attitude and wasn't very friendly. He seemed to be distracted the entire time I was viewing the apartment. I was a very uncomfortable experience. Despite his attitude, I was interested in putting in some paperwork and a deposit so I could to hold the place. I was going to go home, fill out the application and email all of my documentation to him. I wanted to do everything quickly so the place wouldn't get taken. I did what I was supposed to do but I didn't hear from him for two days. When he did finally get in touch with me, he gave me some lame - I was out of town - excuse. Then he told me he didn't think I would be able to get the apartment because the landlord blahblahblah. Waste of time and totally unprofessional. I'm clean cut, I have a great job, excellent credit and I've never had a problem renting a place. How could he possibly know what the landlord was going to say if he didn't even submit my paperwork. He sucks and I'm pissed I wasted even 1 hour with him. read more

I took a job in NYC on a whim and needed a place to live that was a) near my work on the Upper East Side and b) decent. I was very particular about what I was looking for. I worked with Matt, Senior VP, who turned out to not only be one of the nicest people I've met in this town (we all know how impatient and crazy NYC real estate agents can be) but also was extremely loyal, and wouldn't stop until he found me the right property at the right price. He worked with me day in and day out to look at apartments (sometimes I'd meet him on my lunch breaks-- he was very flexible) and get all the necessary information together to apply for one, and, lo and behold, I got it. I couldn't be happier. Eric Goodman Realty (Eric, by the way, the owner, is actually in the office-- a wonderful man who is always willing to help if there is ever an issue) is comprised of agents who are down-to-earth, and take the time to listen and discuss with their clients what is most important to them, and try to accommodate their needs as best they can. I dealt with some other real estate agencies in NYC who charged a fortune of commission for their (less than standard) services, and didn't seem to have the same values as me (they kept trying to bait me into paying more than my budgeted amount). What a waste of time that was. I found exactly what I was looking for with Eric Goodman Realty, and I can't express enough my thanks and gratitude to their staff, Matt in particular, who worked so hard to get me exactly what I wanted. Nothing but problems with these people. Moving in the sink and tube were a mess, took a while to fix the sink, the tub is still not in good condition and we moved in over the summer. Next the hot water was out for a week or two, and since then we have not had gas for cooking, this was in October, I was given a hot plate but one of them does not work so cooking on one hot plate for two people is very impractical. Stay away from these thieves. read more
