Eric put in a new tile kitchen floor for me around four years ago. Despite one of the two-foot tiles being visibly not-level, I was generally happy with it until my dishwasher needed a repair. The repair guy was unable to pull the dishwasher out from beneath the counter because Eric essentially walled it in. When Eric installed the tile, he elevated the floor--but NOT the part of the floor on which the dishwasher sits beneath the counter--by about 3/4". Now there isn't enough clearance above the dishwasher to compensate for the added floor height, so I am going to have to pay someone to cut four tiles out of the floor just so the unit can be pulled out, and to elevate my floor cabinets and counter--all this just so I can replace a dishwasher. I am told this is something Eric should have addressed, and that he took the easy way out by avoiding the issue. Instead, he left me with a downstream problem that will be costly to correct. Yes, Eric has a great many five-star reviews here. That's why I hired him. But before you do the same, I strongly suggest you take heed of my really bad experience, because something like this can happen to you, too. read more

Eric arrived promptly, to work his magic. My seventies style bathroom is now magazine worthy. Hire him and your project will look like a million bucks. His work is exceptional, and I found his prices to be competitive I loved how quiet this part of the job was. I kept forgetting he was here. I really appreciated his tidiness. Each day he vacuumed up after himself, and left everything in tip top shape. He is also environmentally conscious. His disposal practices were flawless. He emails me on a regular basis asking if everything is still to my satisfaction, and to let me know he is ready to do a thresh hold when we finish installing the carpets. Communication with his customers is wonderful. He immediately felt like family. We are designing a new fireplace, and can't wait to have Eric do the work. He is an awesome guy to have around. tl;dr: Eric backed out of our project after signing a contract and committing to a start date, accused me of lying, and put our project in jeopardy. He asked for a 23% advance payment on labor alone, and after I had already sent him a check for the advance, he accused me of lying, stopped all correspondence, and wrote things like: "If you actually did send the check then I will tear it up and send it back to you" and "You are the disappointment". That's not a professional manner to interact with anyone, much less your clients. Canceling a project at this late stage has consequences: I had to scramble to hire another contractor so our project wouldn't be delayed, and I wouldn't have to pay the tile vendor extra to hold the tiles at their warehouse for too long. Longer version: I reached out to Eric for an estimate after seeing good reviews on Yelp (May 14). The first time, he simply cancelled via text without offering to come by later (May 16). I texted him back (May 19), and he showed up (May 20), and sent me an estimate over email after I sent two more texts (May 23). After we decided to have him do the job, he sent me a contract and asked for an advance on labor (not materials!) upfront (May 25). We worked out a final contract (June 4), a start date (June 22) and I ordered tiles myself. He wanted to come by and pick up the check the very next day (June 5), but I forgot to leave it under the doormat that day, so I immediately sent a check through my bank's web site (Capital One 360) (same day, June 5) and sent him a screenshot of the bank's confirmation. His contract says he needed to receive the advance payment 5 days before the project start date (that would've been June 17). But then, a long time before that, 15 days before the scheduled start date (on June 8), he sent me an email--no phone, no conversation--saying that he wouldn't do the job because he hadn't received the check yet. According to his own contract, there were still 8 days left before payment was due. The bank confirmed that the payment was indeed sent correctly on June 5, and would be received by June 11 (6 days before it was due). Eric still insists (June 22) he never received the payment, so I opened an enquiry with the bank, just so I have written proof. They did their investigation and concluded that it was sent out correctly on June 5. I have maintained written records of this entire ordeal, because I do not take lightly any accusations of lying. To sum up, Eric was extremely unprofessional in accusing his (potential) customer of lying without any proof to back him up, before any payment was even due. Instead of communicating to resolve whatever issue might have occurred (sure, postal mail does get lost sometimes), he sent out a terse email, breached his contract and cancelled the job unilaterally, placing us in a tight situation. We had a partially completed DIY walk in shower job to be completed. We hired Eric and he turned our bathroom into a spa! Whenever we stay at nice hotels or B n B's my husband always complains the bathrooms are not as nice as ours. I was in the home when Eric was working. He works non stop and stays focused on the job. He is very detail oriented and would check in with us if there was an area he thought we might be concerned with. He never disappointed us. All his ideas were great. He met timelines and worked with us on scheduling. The only criticism I could have is that he could be a little neater with the surrounding area, but that would not prevent me from using him again and again. read more

Eric did an amazing job with our tiled tub surround. The old tiles were falling off, and water was leaking behind them. He took out the old tiles and the old plaster, then put new board up and waterproofed it. Eric also made sure that all the tiles were placed symmetrically in the surround and on the borders -- very detailed work that turned out great. 10 years ago we had Eric do our kitchen floors and loved them! We recently went through a whole house remodel and needed more tile work. Since we were working with a contractor we decided to let the contractor work with his own tile sub.
