Providing consistent, high-quality care for 10+ years is a feat in itself, but doing so for a patient who is admittedly stubborn and historically resistant to medical intervention requires a level of patience and dedication that is truly rare. They need to schedule BETTER.the last 3 times I've had an appointment they have been always been at least 30 minutes late and that includes phone calls. This doctor,when I see him, is good but I've had problems with my labs. They can't seem to input my labs into Quest and I wait 45 minutes to get them input and that are not all were not comprehended. I'm going to get another doctor that has a better team read more

Dr. WECHSLER is a kind, caring and knowledgeable doctor. He carefully explains everything and is warm and friendly. He is very popular, and it is extremely difficult to get an appointment with him. **Update** I wrote my last review around 8 years ago and it is now 2021 and my Kidney transplant has been going strong for 9 years and counting. I still feel that Dr. Wechsler is bar none the best Nephrologist in Southern California. I also do not believe that my kidney transplant would have lasted this long without the expertise and care of Dr. Wechsler. I still can't recommend Dr. Wechsler enough. Dr Wechsler is a very busy nephrologist who maintains several practice locations in O.C. As such individualized patient care is carried out by the nurse practitioner directly with input by Dr Wechsler when available. The office staff is also extremely busy so messages may take extra time to reach their destination. read more

Dr Wechsler takes care of my father in SoCal. Being on another coast it makes taking care of your parents very difficult. Dr Wechsler takes the time to call me and spend as much time as i need on the phone discussing my fathers health. I would recommend him to anyone. read more

I feel very sorry for any new patient that needs to book an appointment, their front office will return your calls between 6 and 8 hours after you leave your message. Very frustrating to say the least. As far as the Doctors go I have no comment as I went to another Facility. read more

Worst experience of my life just trying to set up an appointment with the most uneducated front desk person I have ever spoken with. Discussed insurance because she didn't know what a self funded plan is. Then we went into who's on first since she couldn't understand that I have the MRI in my possession. Arrangements to drop off the CD, that wasn't good enough, needed report, request to Envision and on and on she goes. Every question was another question and I repeated myself four times. Get better help for God sake! If this the best you can do it's time to hire people for your patients to get some help! read more

My 88 year old mother, diagnosed long ago with chronic (Stage 4) kidney disease, was referred to and seen by Dr. Wechsler yesterday. I am my mother's advocate and attend each doctor appointment with her (3-5 each month), and am beyond impressed with the care we received in the (ample) time we spent with Dr. Wechsler - and with his staff's treatment of us, as well. My mother has many complex health issues, and Dr. Wechsler took the time to ask and learn about each one, and how they may or may not relate or contribute to her kidney disease - and explain it all to us, as well. He even placed a call to another of her doctors to help address an issue we were discussing, so we had an answer before we left. My mother and I are both extremely pleased with Dr. Wechsler's professionalism, caring and concerned affect, and clear plan for her ongoing care. read more

My husband felt very ill and had an elevated (very high) BUN and Creatinine level on his blood & urine tests while we were on a cruise. The ship doctor was about to order an emergency evacuation from the ship but since it would be complicated to do this sort of evacuation and was 2 days left to disembarkation, the doc. suggested to wait till we were on shore while his condition was closely monitored. We don't know of any kidney specialist in OC, my husband's GP is in NYC (he was from NY) so thanks to Yelp, we chose to visit Dr. Eric Wechsler in Newport Beach as he has glowing reviews. All the great praises on Yelp reviews on Dr. Wechsler turn out to be so, so true! Dr. Wechsler took care of my husband immediately, sent him to the ER (HOAG Hosp.) across the street from his office which was very convenient to us and ordered temporary, stat kidney dialysis and be examined by a urologist as well. Turns out my husband has another illness which was/is the underlying cause of his kidney failure but that's another topic to review. Dr. Wechsler is very competent, knowledgable and most importantly has a fabulous, caring & professional, bedside manner. He continuously and diligently follows up on my husband's condition until his kidney function was and still is, stable and in the normal range. His blood pressure was 214/98 on his 1st. visit to Dr. Wechsler's office where he was immediately given a HTN's lowering med. at Dr. E.W.'s office and nowadays my husband's BP is in the normal range as well. I cannot express enough gratitude to Dr. E.W., for treating and taking care of my husband's illness and well being - Dr. E. Wechsler is a true mensch! Not to mention Debbie, Dr. Wechsler's nurse who is the most caring, competent and professional, always pleasant to talk to, always caring, extremely helpful and be available to tend to my husband's important needs e.g. ordering wheelchair, filling out application for disable parking placard, etc., etc. Dr. Wechsler and Deb rock!! I made my first appointment with Dr. Wechsler office last month. I was very impressed with the staff and Kristen. My appointment yesterday was simply outstanding. Dr. Wechsler is very knowledgeable and he took as much time as necessary to answer all of mine and my wife's questions without feeling rushed. He answered all of my questions and gave me multiple options to consider. My wife and I agreed he was the kind of "Doc" that was not full of himself! Only wish I had seen him 10 years ago. First I have to say that from reputation Dr. Eric Wechsler comes highly recommended and I am sure he is a outstanding doctor. That is why I tried to make an appointment to see him. However, the treatment I received from his front office receptionist was beyond poor and hurtful. I was treated like I knew nothing about my own issues, and was told I could not see Dr. Wechsler to even explain my concerns. One of the reasons we go to see Doctors is because we at times need some reassurance and understanding. Again I am sure all the doctor in this group are great and do wonderful work, but the front office staff sets the tone, and this is not how I want to be treated starting off. Their attitude toward me, was take it or leave it, so I am leaving it. read more

I take my dad to all his doctor appointments. My dad had unstable blood pressure and low kidney function for 3 years. Different doctors kept giving him medication, but matters kept getting worse. My dad's insurance changed and he was assigned to Dr. Wechsler. I was very impressed at the thorough investigation Dr. Wechsler did into all my dad's health issues. Dr. Wechsler then made some adjustments to other medications my dad was taking for separate conditions because these meds were hard on the kidneys, and he prescribed some new ones. Not only did my dad's blood pressure stabilize and kidney function improve, but so did his other conditions as a result of Dr. Wechsler taking the time to give a comprehensive look at the patient's health on a whole. It's been about 5 years since these meds were established, and the doctors for his othe conditions have not had to change a thing! Thanks to Dr. Wechsler, my dad is healther today than he was 10 years ago. My dad is 87 years old.
