There's the world that I want to live in, and then there's a world that I actually live in. I…read morerecently built a small project at my house, a few thousand in materials. It was recommended to me by my carpenter that all materials be ordered from Curtis Lumber. In my mind, since I sent the architectural drawings and had lengthy phone conversations with Curtis Lumber, and then had a few conversations over phone and email, I would have a single delivery of everything I need. In reality, some of the lumber delivered was warped and unusable, some of the items were delayed due to covid, some of the items never came because they weren't on the quote, and I didn't catch it. If something had to be exchange/purchased, most items had to come from Ballston Spa location, since the Delmar location has limited stock. There were many trips to Ballston Spa, and many pickups/drop-offs by Curtis Lumber at my house. The reason for five stars is because unlike working with a large corporation, such as Lowes or Home Depot, they actually pick up the phone here when you call, and they're able to see your order history, and everyone is very understanding and patient, and they stand behind their products. I can certainly see why my carpenter will only buy materials from here.

If you don't know what you need and where it is, don't bother going here. It's not worth it. If your job sucks so much you're miserable all the time to everyone, find another job. I love this place!…read more Ok, let me just say that if you need cabinets, flooring, countertops, doors, sink/faucet, showers, etc. and you are thinking of going to a box store nearby, STOP! Please check this place out first. There is definitely more of a warehouse feel than at Home Depot or Lowe's but the prices are amazing. They will even help you plan your kitchen layout if you are trying to remodel. We bought a countertop, sink, and faucet (and all of the supplies needed) here and saved a lot of money. We are about to buy flooring for our kitchen here. They have a lot of options and even "project idea books" with all their inventory listed so you can take it home and sift through. Summary: Seriously great prices and quality. Don't overlook this place.

We went to Home Depot and to Lowe's but decided to check out Colonie Block also. We ended our search there. The gentleman who waited on us was very knowledgeable and helped us figure out what we would need for the project. Also they had a much better selection of patio pavers than the big box stores and the prices were comparable. But the very best part was the money he saved us by saying,"You don't want to put those pavers under a hot tub where no one will ever see them". We got heavy duty cement blocks that were each cheaper by $5 than the decorative pavers. We would never have thought of that ourselves and it added up to a significant savings. Also when we decided to extend the area we were able to get additional pavers without buying a whole pallet. We're really glad we gave them a try

The breaker that runs my A/C broke yesterday on the hottest day of the year 95 degrees. I called…read moreso many electrical supply businesses but could not find the exact breaker. Thorpe electrical recommended Albany Industrial Supply. I called and spoke with Ken (he is a gem) and they had (3) in stock but they were about to close in 20 minutes. He waited for me past closing time and was so helpful and knowledgeable. I bought all (3) breakers so I would have backups just in case. The price was also better than every other place I had to spoke with. I cannot thank Ken enough for his kindness yesterday. I highly recommend this place!!

I admit upfront that I might not be the typical customer who goes to 84 Lumber. I am not a…read morecontractor, nor am I a woodworker. However, I recently found myself looking for dimensional lumber (1x4) in the lengths of 10 and 12 feet. Home Depot and Lowe's do not typically carry wood this long, at least in pine (as opposed to exotic or hardwoods or composites) and in a quality grade (meaning, not cheap warped pine). I called here on a whim and they told me that they carried exactly what I was looking for. I drove over on a Saturday morning in the winter and went inside. They don't heat anything except the check-out area, and it was cold. But, they pointed out the area where I needed to look and helped me pick out some wood. It was about 50% more than the big box stores per foot, but the pine was warp and knot free and available in the lengths I needed. I purchased a bunch and they told me to drive my car into the building where they loaded it for me. It stuck out the back of my little Corolla but I made it home fine. Being a lumberyard, I doubt I will have much need to come here. However, they were helpful and priced right and carried what I needed (and couldn't find elsewhere). Just wear a coat!

HOWEVER: VALENTE'S! - was easy to get ahold of on the phone - created a time for contact to set up delivery next day - The man who delivered, Andy, *clarified* the space for placement of the pile; asked about the trees he might bump; walked the area before dumping, was filled with basic human graces & politeness. - the cost of the mulch was also significantly less than the previous place we'd used. And that's basically everything a homeowner wants in a mulch delivery place. Five stars.
