Great Surplus Store. Great variety of items. Something for everyone. Usually my first stop for shop supplies. Fun to dig around in

A solid hardware store in a small town. While they may not have the inventory as a big box store,…read morethey make up for it with the service they provide. Always well staffed, they do a great job helping you locate what you need (vs. meandering aimlessly throughout the store). Find the prices comparable to that of a large hardware store as well.

10/14/20 evening, I searched online for a Milwaukee cordless orbital sander and found Ace had it…read morefor the cheapest price. I'd found the West Bend, WI store had shown it was in-stock, and called the store to confirm. I was told it was in-stock, and price confirmed at $99.99, as the website had shown. Found that the sander was waiting for me at the checkout (which was nice). It rang up at $159. An employee came up to assist, and went back to check the price difference. After a few minutes, I went back to see what was being found out, and met the owners David and Todd. David explained the online price was to compete with Amazon's 'Prime Days', they WOULD NOT honor the price, as "they would need to be recouped from Ace.com for the price difference" and I would need to "order online, tomorrow you can pick it up after we've received the order." I suggested I show the order receipt after purchasing online, and they could then marked as "picked up" the next day, to save a trip after already driving out of my way the first time. They would have none of it. David explained to me that I don't support small businesses, because I buy online or shop at larger retailers like Menards. Menards was small once, good business made them big. (Yeah, I hear Mr. Menard is a real gem too, 'least he keeps his face out of it.) Posted this, after having the blessing of his presence at Taco Bell (pizza craving). I'd forgotten my card, "forgot I couldn't pay with cash" when I'd gotten there, got an attitude. The staff there promptly noticed, and informed me I could still pay with cash. Just get to the payment-end of the process. Really unwound me quick! Halfway thru my snack, in saunters Todd. Dude-in-training at the front table. Todd, looming at the front counter. Looks halfway over his shoulder, 'can't anyone take my order', voice echoing off the large touchscreen in front of him. The drive-thru staff hustled over, headset flashing, and guided Todd to the touchscreen. He didn't care for that, and said 'why can't you take my order?'. She just briefly had answered that she would run it thru the drive-thru terminal, but then actually got a drive-thru customer and trotted back. Todd, looking something between perturbed and stupefied, MANAGED TO TAP IN HIS ORDER. Without heavy breathing, even. Quickly enough, he was waiting before the "I'm going to defuse this man 'cause we care and compassionate" drive-thru got back with his food. 'Todd'? Checked thru his bag, rolled it back up, and headed out. Now the manager had joined the in-training, and tried to catch his glaze with a 'Thanks for stopping in, have a good night.'..... and he didn't even look her way. I've boycotted their Ace's since the first time. Fucking low-light, dusty shelves, tags that haven't been changed out since 2000, overpriced hardware. I miss Boehlke Hardware. Decent price for the shit you get, candy raisins on the way out, see them at church. Overpriced, but you saw where the money went. Fuck them. I know where everything is in Menards, the price is right, people are nice. It's bullshit they took the military discount away, added 11% for everything. (Never served)
