The Aerospace Museum of California is a private non-profit aviation museum located on the grounds of the former McClellan Air Force Base. This museum features a 40,000 square foot exhibit hall, over 40 historic aircraft and rockets and flight simulators. Today, I arrived on a warm weekend morning to explore this museum. I am fond of museums especially aviation. This museum is good place to expose and teach kids about STEM programs. Moreover, this museum has great collection of aeronautical artifacts and ww2 history. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Admission prices were reasonable. Gift shop was modest. Parking lot has ample of space. Overall, it's a good museum. I recommend you visit.

It is located next to Martha Riley Library, one of 3 City of Roseville libraries and the newest one. The RUEC is pretty cool and admission is free. We like to come by every once in awhile because they have changing exhibits, but their permanent displays are informative and interesting too. As an environmentally minded person, I try to conserve, but how do you know what to do and what is worth your effort and what doesn't make much of a difference? The RUEC has quite a few exhibits on how to conserve energy, water, and how to minimize our impact on the planet including garbage disposal (that often end up in landfill more than anywhere else), recycling, being conscientious in our resource usage by setting our thermostats properly, cycling our ACs, replace or clean air filters regularly, install a programmable thermostat, and properly insulating and weatherizing your house down to HVAC ducts! There's even information on where our stormwater and runoffs go (which affect our fish and other wildlife), how much energy different specific kitchen appliances use, not putting grease/oil down the drain, vacuum the coils on our fridge 2x's a year to keep our fridges efficient, thinking about the temp and weather when considering what to cook (don't run your oven on hot days), installing energy efficient fixtures/bulbs, and only doing laundry and dishes with full loads so as to maximize efficient when washers and dishwashers. These are things many people don't know or haven't thought about. Overall, the RUEC does a great job at educating the community and especially kids on environmental and resource conservation and also provides info about how we can practically make a difference just by being more aware of how we use energy and other natural resources.

We took our kids here since we like fun educational activities and free is always the right price. We went on a Saturday and it was not too busy. The staff is friendly who greeted us, then we just wandered around a bit. They have interactive utility exhibits about how the City of Roseville provides utility services to their residents. They have their own power plants and substations, etc. to generate their own energy, so their residents pay less than even SMUD customers, I was kind of jealous about that. At least I'm not paying PG&E electricity, but maybe I should've looked into living in Roseville. Anyhow, they also have their own sewage and water facilities of course, and their services are focused on saving water and sustainability and being resource conscious and eco-friendly, which all make sense. My kids enjoyed the interactive activities about using less electricity and water, but what they really liked was the Utility Truck Experience where they got to go on a Recycling truck and pretend play. It was pretty cool. There are also tons of education displays on shopping smart to get things that last and not disposable items that end up in the landfill. In addition to permanent exhibits, they also offer kids educational classes. My kids took a few over the years, one of them was on urban planning and it was quite interesting for them to learn how to design and layout infrastructure for a pretend city that makes sense for where to put the power plant, the landfill, the sewage system, etc. relative to locations of homes, roads, nature places like rivers and lakes, and public places like parks, schools, and fire stations, etc. All in all, RUEC (as they call it) is a really nice little museum that kids and adults alike where we can learn a lot about utilities and resource conservation, it's great that it's open 6 days a week and it's free and everyone's welcome, not just Roseville residents, and they even offer free educational classes (w/advance RSVP) for kids. Well fear not, intrepid medical history lovers, here it is, brought to you by the Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society. They are open 10 am to 4 pm Tuesday through Friday, so I came by on a rare day off that I had taken because I was hosting my Swedish friend for two weeks. My Swedish friend with an advanced degree in osteo-paleontology, mind you. So, though the self-guided tour is what we chose, I did have a tour guide of a sort. And it was awesome. You can also email or call them to set up a guided or school tour, if that is preferred. The museum is much bigger than I thought based on the few photos I looked at before my visit. There is also a small office area inside with people available should you need assistance. We took an hour and a half to explore the place. There are some things that can't be unseen, so this tour might be a challenge for squeamish people. I didn't mind stuff in jars, but I'm always good on pictures of maggots going to town in a wound. There's a reason I didn't study medicine! I had never seen a lotus shoe before, either. It was so unbelievably small. My heart clenched in my chest. I hope she is happy and at peace now, wherever she is. To lighten the mood, the many uses for bedpans as decorative pieces brought us delight throughout our wanderings of the museum. It would have been fun to show my partner the exhibit on the history of overly-familiar gynecological tools, but alas he was stuck at work! Getting to see 3,000 year old statues depicting patients going through various mental and physical symptoms was a highlight of my visit. For as long as there have been humans, there have been other humans trying to make them feel better. Of course, there have also been quacks. There were several examples of quackery to look at as well. They even have library books one can read at their leisure at a table and chairs. Most books you can't touch, but some you are invited to. I especially liked reading about what medical accomplishments CSUS students have made over the years, as an alumnus myself. You can easily walk or ride the bus from campus to the museum to look at resources if you wanted, and that is really cool. So I could keep yammering about how cool it was to visit this local gem of a museum, but instead I think I'll let you check it out for yourself. They have a small lot with free parking and restrooms for the public. There's even a real iron lung! Vaccinations aren't only fun, kids, they're fundamental. Again, it is free to visit!

We are huuuuge baseball fans so had to check it out. A wonderfully curated exhibit showcasing the lengthy history of baseball in Sacramento with a special focus on the AAA Rivercats and how they came to be. It was so fun to see the memorabilia and read the stories. The museum had other items on exhibit showcasing mining history and stories of the early settlers to the region. Cute gift shop with a variety of Sacramento specific items. I bought a few unique postcards and some wild flower seeds to grow blooms native to the region.

There are 2 parking garages so you aren't without parking, just not in-front of the Musuem. There is also street parking a block away. It's limited is you have to get lucky to snag a spot. Also they are metered spots so be prepared to whip out your credit card. They no longer take coins. Bathrooms. The have a nice unisex one on the first floor. It's mostly clean. The trash is overflowing at times. ADA Assessable. The museum is 3 stores an there are stairs and an elevator. Cost- $12 adults, $6 Youth, Free 0-5, Seniors $10 Operation hours- They are open 7 Amy's a week from 10am to 5pm Tempeture- It's cold inside even when it's boiling hot outside. So if you're hot in the summer this is the perfect place to visit. Vibe- It's a great museum. We love visiting. You're always learning something new. There is always a lot to see. It's a mixture of reading, viewing, and videos. Just note- food and drink aren't allowed in the museum. Totally understandable, but also a little annoying.

For the holiday they had some free shamrock sugar cookies, bananas and 100% orange juice and a cute sign displayed outside saying "Welcome Walkers!" The orange juice and cookies were delicious, my toddler and I had some and it was nice having a little bite to eat while we explored the museum! ~A bit of History.. Fair Oaks was developed in 1895 and in 1975 the historical society of Fair Oaks was founded to preserve the history and heritage of the town. This city is now a bustling town full of restaurants, parks, libraries, businesses, an old town and more. Speaking of Old Fair Oaks, ever curious how we got so many chickens and roosters? It all started in 1977 when a man by the name of Hugh Gorman brought 3 chickens and 1 rooster with him from his parent's ranch he grew up on to his new home here in Fair Oaks. What was supposed to be a small population of chickens, after about a year grew to so many that both Gorman and his neighbor's chickens started to venture out of their backyards. This was thanks to some stray roosters and chickens that were first dropped off by an unknown source and impregnated the chickens, despite Gorman moving the roosters out at one point, more and more strays, primarily roosters, were being dropped off. After awhile Gorman couldn't decipher between his own and the strays. I would highly recommend checking out this museum, we sure learned a lot of history and you will too when you visit! While we were there they had books, DVDs, coffee mugs, calendars and more for sale and the man running the shop was very knowledgeable and welcoming as well! Don't forget to sign in with the city you're visiting from and drop in a dollar or two to donate to the museum before you leave!

In a few years past, I have managed at least one museum this one day. This year was the Aerospace Museum of California. This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce our museums to the general public. The turn out at the few museums I've visited on this "free" day is tremendous. It's great to see families out spending learning and discovery time together. This is (at least) the one day each year you can expect the participating Sacramento area museums to be bustling with people - lots of young, some in the past-young-but-not-old, and older. I'd like to believe that this support exists year round. I visited the Aerospace Museum today not because it was free, but because "I" was free and had been wanting to cure my historical aero fascination and intrigue. It so happened it was a free day. Instead, I donated the normal admission fee. Museums are an important part of maintaining physical history, to see what was/is, how it was/is, and the progress (or regression); to experience the wealth of art, science, and history around the Sacramento area. It's the museums and sponsors that make this day possible and the sponsors and donations that keep museums open and available. Don't plan on a quick trip to a museum. Take time, don't rush. Seems always be First Saturday in February each year, in this situation the day before Football Super Bowl Sunday! As say first review, not want take chance, from Old Town Sacramento, back track, walk to that of Sacra hotel you knowing where, you knowing when, you knowing who! Ha ha ha to reader read this paragraph! Not want take the chance, read my other why I refuse try eat lunch Old Town Sacra! Okay so as say back track walk to hotel, get the all you want eat breakfast (still leave $1.50 tip)! All these not know how many museums have free admission! That includes ours Sacramento History Museum, from what I Understand temporary closed for exhibit renovations! However, I am signed up for children games, between Gold Panning, the Old Eagle Theater, Old Town Sacra Visitor Center, and children games, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. actually supposed be 5:00 p.m. but we started cleaning up after 4:00 p.m., there for our museum 3,461 people! Wow, lots people! Even with on and off rain! I did stick horses, so the horse races! Even let the parents do it! I was counting down in Cantonese, the one other docent, "I like how you are counting it (to three) in Chinese," well in real life and in character I am Chinese! At Old Eagle Theater story telling every hour from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., I am signed up for twelve noon! I tell story as my character, the other docent later say, "Karyn did really good telling the story in First Character!" My character 1830 to 1899, came to Goom Shan (GOLDEN MOUNTAIN) trying seek my fortune in gold! Used gold pan as prop! No luck, I opened up a laundry business! Well, that my version now of the Free Museum Day year 2019!

They also participate in the annual Museum Day open house in Sacramento. So, if you're not one to make appointments in advance for anything, that's an option. I loved this place. I have a lot of interest in cool historical artifacts, and pharmacy has some of the coolest historical items around. All sorts of tools that used to be used in making medicines for your health and well being. Before mass manufacturing and prepackaging took the mystery and arcane aspects away. This is a place where you can see the change in the look of a pharmacy from one era to the next. Just looking at products from another place and time is fascinating. (Think of something like in a Harry Potter movie!) I visited with a couple of friends who were also very interested in pharmacy history. We ended up talking with the very knowledgeable docent for 2 hours! He had a lot of funny historical anecdotes that he shared.For example, old pharmacies used to carry a lot of natural products such as sarsaparilla root. Sarsaparilla root used to be used in old concoctions. In the US, lots of these old base formulas seemed to morph into popular soda drinks: Coca Cola, Pepsi, Dr Pepper, and root beer.

We got a tour from Chris, one of the sons of Mr. Don Salvatori, he was a wealth of knowledge and a very friendly pharmacist who is also an excellent docent. My kids didn't have much patience, but they had fun pretending to be a pharmacist and dispensing Rx (M&Ms) and learning about what pharmacists do. The wife and I enjoyed this visit tremendously, very interesting stuff! Worth a visit. Usually you need an appt, but it was the annual Sacramento museum day weekend, so it was open to the public. Great little museum that's part of the headquarters of the California Pharmacists Association.
