Many trains on display with knowledgeable volunteers happy to explain how things work along with the history. This place is perfect for kids AND adults. Especially for enthusiasts but even if you're not into trains, learning a little about the history is worth it. Their exhibits are very well done and there is even a sleeper car that as you walk through it, actually MOVES and sounds like you're really on board the real deal. The only thing that wasn't as good as I was hoping for, was the excursion experience. I thought it would be a little longer and scenic, but turned out to be a short 15-20 minute ride on a straight track from the museum to the old Sacramento baths and back then it headed back for another 15-20 minute ride back the same way. Pretty cool if you're a kid, but not that exciting for a college age teen and myself. The "free" snacks provided were anticlimactic as well. Really, the best thing about the excursion experience was learning more history from the super friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. They were ALL great! Super thankful for sharing their passion and knowledge with us.

Most of what is here has been here since 2021, and many of those things are also frequently out of order. The prices have increased, while perks, benefits, or experiences have decreased or been removed. When I first joined as a member, there were member hours everyday and now they are only 1 Saturday per month. Planetarium shows used to be included with admission and now it is an additional cost, even though the shows are also primarily the same since 2021. They initially advertised having lockers, but they were always out of order. I honestly prefer my Chuck E Cheese membership over this place. If you aren't from Sacramento, your children will have a good time. If you are a Sacramento parent looking for a fun membership where you can visit multiple times, choose something else.

One of my favorite parts was how interactive it was for kids. They have a scavenger hunt that keeps them engaged while exploring the museum, which makes it fun for the whole family. There are planes both outside and inside the museum, and the exhibits are well laid out so you can take your time walking through everything. It's a great place if you enjoy aviation or just want something different and educational to do with the family. Definitely worth the visit. There is an outdoor area where the big planes and jets are. The signage is good in describing their uses, names and missions. There is even a section on space travel. The docents are top notch. I went on an underground tour of Pendleton, Oregon and few years back and thought this would be similar. Instead we walked around above ground looking at old buildings and then spent about 5 to 10 minutes in an old basement and learned about how they used jacks to pick up the buildings after a great flood back in the 1800s. On the bright side, the tour guide was very friendly and informative. If you're looking for a quick hour long historical tour, this is recommended, but don't expect too much underground stuff, you won't get it.
