We are in Breckenridge on a work trip, and you got to eat somewhere! I voted for Ken's Chicken and Fish, but I lost cause the bosss vote counts more! I had never been to Ernie's Spanish Kitchen, but I'm game! One thing I have learned from waitstaff I know is the daily specials are always made fresh that day, so it's usually a good idea to get it. Today the special is chicken and spinach enchiladas. While we waited on our food, we slammed down some REALLY good chips and salsa. Great salsa can turn a good meal into a wonderful meal. I'm not an enchilada fan. That's Glenda's thing. These were wonderful. They were literally COVERED in cheese. I would certainly order them again. Give Ernie's a try! read more

I have been wanting to try this place for some time every time I pass it's packed I asked several people about it but they just brushed me off it was like why I wonder as there is always so many vehicles in the parking lot that there is no where to park I don't understand it I finally said you know I'm going to go and find out for myself so I did! I ordered food for takeout let me tell you all you can't listen to others from time to time I'm so glad I went myself I've been missing out for sure this place is great! The staff was very warm and caring again I had phone ordered my order when I arrived I explained I placed my order over the phone but forgot to order dessert the gal stated that's not a problem another gal ran over to the the dessert case and cut a piece of pie for me. While that one was cutting the pie another one ran to the kitchen to see if my order was ready these gals had it together another asked if I had any drinks if so she was going to get the drinks ready. I got home I'm telling you I ordered the Kelly Special that was so good I sure enjoyed it my meat was very tender the favor was very good, the salsa was awesome I should've ordered some tortillas that's the only thing but my meal was very good ! Friendly staff and great food, but did see a dead fly on the window seal next to our table and my mom got a dirty fork with some kind of lettuce of something stuck to the bottom of the fork. They also had some pies their to. I had chocolate and was great. For the drink I had iced water and ask for lemon wedges instead of fresh lemons I got little packets of lemon juice. Fresh lemon would have been better than the packets of lemon juice. The Queso was okay and salsa was decent. read more

Good choice for lunch ,nachos deluxe are good ,steak and enchiladas are really good .Tea glasses are huge which is a lot better than the sippy cups you get at most restaurants.Overall a pretty good choice. read more

I just love this place. I've been going since I was a kid and now I bring my children. We all love it.

We were about 45 minutes from Ernies on Saturday night. We checked the website for times and it showed they closed at 10 pm. We walked in at 9:10 pm and they said oh we are so sorry we just closed!!!!! Poor customer service on their part. We pass through at least 3-4 times a year and love to stop in. We have always had great service until last night. Needless to say we won't be stopping anymore. read more

Friday nite, 6pm, very busy place. Got our food very quick. Surprised, because they were nearly full (bout 8o%). Had Mexican food of course, and it was great. As we left we noticed the parking lot was packed. Wouldn't have noticed it by the great food and great service. We will be back, SOON!!! read more

When you live out of town, you come back home expecting certain things to still be the same. Buildings have changed, businesses have changed, and now a once-great staple of Breckenridge has changed. Friday night I had the displeasure of ordering from Ernie's Spanish Kitchen. Not only has the quality of the food all but disappeared, but I have trouble understanding how 3 tacos, rice, beans, and queso can run $19.67. Are you kidding me? The queso used to be something I craved, but when you take a bite and it's GRAINY... seriously? It looks like someone just melted Velveeta and threw some tomato chunks in it. And I was also told they now charge for water. SERIOUSLY? Talk about being money hungry. Sheesh. To whoever made these horrendous changes there: way to go for trying to rip the people of Breckenridge off. read more

Ernie's is a great place to eat. A very established place in the local community. I eat lunch there every week or so, and recommend it to locals and travelers. If you want your salsa with a little extra heat, ask for the green sauce and mix it with the regular salsa. And if you can handle a little more heat, get the George's Special, which is grilled fajita meat, sliced grilled jalapenos, and covered with melted Mexican blended cheese, served with a side of mouth cooling salad... and yes, the tea and water glasses are big enough to quench your thirst if you can't handle the heat. read more

I've lived in Breckenridge all my life. The only reason people go here is because locals rave about it. My actual experience: The people are very condescending. Like the other reviews say, if they don't know you, they'll stare. The beans taste like they came out of a can. The peppers and onions are raw. The meat has absolutely no spice on it, whatsoever. The queso is good, which is the only saving grace. I don't know why people come here. The food is terrible, not at all Mexican and the people are rude and nosey. If anything, I order the queso to go and avoid the restaurant altogether. If you're looking for actual good Mexican food, this is not the place to go. read more

Agree with others posting that the queso is not good. I should have trusted reviews and not ordered. I had the chili rellenos, enchiladas, and taco. All were lacking any resemblance of spicy food. Quite bland. In previous trips to Breckenridge I have eaten at the mexican restaurant across the street. Much better and more Tex mex which is what I was expecting. read more

Would kill for for a decent nacho! $10 and got maybe 6 chips on a plate with a thin layer of beans, meat and cheese COVERED in lettuce. By covered I'm talking more than they put in their side salad. Great ice tea, just have to make sure they leave room for tea when they add ice. read more

We used to eat here every Tuesday. Last 3 times, the chips were greasy and stale. Ive gotten sick because the fajita meat was grissly and cold. They've really gone down hill. read more
