My review would actually give 3.5 stars, but since we have to rate a whole star I rounded up. Cafe Rico is a local Mexican food place in Eastland. Atmosphere: Cafe Rico is located in a small building at the end of a long strip of old downtown style buildings. It consists of one large single dining area composed of a mishmash of old diner style tables and chairs and a few booths. Nice and clean. Basically your normal small town diner. 1/2 Star Service: The service is what would bring me back for sure. We had 2 waitresses who visited the table regularly to make sure we had anything we might want. We never had to worry about getting low on drinks. They were also very nice to talk to. Good small town people. 2 Stars Food: The chips were quite stale, almost chewy, which didn't start us off with a good impression. The salsa on the other hand was great. Nice amount of kick but even my son liked it. We ordered queso with our chips and it was nothing special at all. Seemed like it could have been warmed from a bottle. The entrées however were quite good. Wife got the Rico Burrito which was huge. She could barely get 1/2 of it down and she thought it was great. I went à la carte and got 2 beef and bean tostadas (which were loaded with veggies just the way I like them) and a green chili cheese and onion enchilada. The green chili (I opted for the medium on this visit) was fantastic and would have been considered mild by my tastebuds. It wasn't quite as sweet as most tomatilla salsa verdes but had a nice smoky flavor. I really enjoyed it. I have to drop a star for the stale chips and "store bought" queso since those are really important to me and also set the mood for the whole meal. The entrées however were surprisingly good after the initial impression. 1 star. ------------------------ My rating system: Up to 1 star for atmosphere (Let's face it, I could eat Franklin BBQ on a dirty napkin while sitting in the bed of my truck.) Up to 2 stars apiece for both food and service (these are the two things that will either drive me away or reel me back in) 1 Star-Wouldn't let my dog eat here 2 Star-Below average-usually something really struck me as being bad and I doubt I would ever return. 3 Star-Average-Might come back. Might not if there are better options. 4 Star-Above average-will definitely come back and try something new. Probably had great service as well. 5 Star-Phenomenal-Will definitely return for such an amazing experience. read more

Very good Mexican, especially for a small town! Great chips and salsa, if the salsa is no good we just leave without eating. Had beef fajitas for two (I shared ) served with beans and rice, two servings each. Good guacamole.... Went on a Fri nite and just barely beat the crowd, they got full in about 20 min of getting there. Service was friendly, quick and they refilled chips and drinks frequently. Ambiance just so so....small town remember. I love small towns , don't you? My husband says "yummy". My son had a tostada fixed like Taco Bell's but it looked WAY better! If your driving by on the Interstate, it's only a few miles up Main Street, worth the slight detour! Give it a try! read more

This little out of way joint has some of the BEST tamales I've ever eaten. I got green sauce on mine and of course they were total Tex Mex style (seeing as this is Texas that seemed only right) with cheese melting all over the place. I love tamales plain (if they're good), next time I would get sauce on the side so it'd be the best of both worlds. Good chips and salsa too. The hubs enjoyed his enchiladas as well. read more

We have been here several times, including this week. It doesn't look like much from the road. The food and service are terrific. I wish they would update the signage. It looks dusty and faded giving the wrong impression. Inside it's big, bright and lively. read more

Being from CA, I'm extremely picky about Mexican food. I'm not partial to my food being smothered in yellow cheese, which seems to be the norm in the south. While there was cheese on top, it did not overwhelm the actual food, which was quite excellent. I had the 2 enchilada/taco plate with mild green sauce. I am still partial to the tomatillo green sauce in CA, this was tasty with a nice kick. We arrived just as they opened for dinner so we were the only patrons. The waitress was wonderful - friendly, efficient but not hovering. If I'm ever in this part of TX again, I will make sure to come here for a meal. Well worth the 5 minute detour off the hwy. Excellent food and service at a very reasonable price, especially for the serving size! read more

My "go to" place when I need a TexMex fix. I love the cosy atmosphere, the friendly staff and the great tasting food.

My husband said that it is one of the best rib eye steaks. Very juicy and cooked to order. The chicken fajitas were also good with melt in your mouth sautéed onions and red peppers. Service was great and management very friendly. Off the beaten path but worth it. read more
