To put it simply, a great place to hang out and drink. The decor is unique and fun, the music isn't too loud, and there's plenty of board games to keep you entertained when you run out of things to talk about (even CARDS AGAINST HUMANITY!). Went here on a Saturday, which was the $7 sangria deal. All in all, the drinks were actually cheaper compared to similar places, and the choices on beer were good. What's great about this bar is that it has something for everyone. They play some great music (it was an awesome 80s playlist when I was there on Saturday), have board games for you to use at a table with your friends, and their drinks a reasonable. P E R F E C T. Came here for HappyHour on a Friday to pregame before taking my guy out for his birthday. The drinks were incredibly yummy. He had a new craft beer, I had a (surprisingly attractive) whiskey sour. The service was friendly as soon as we walked in the door; incredible. My fiancé and I ordered from this restaurant for the first time yesterday. I was craving a gourmet burger with fries ( you know a Burger King/Wendy's Burger and fries on steroids). To be honest I would of paid any amount of money for a good burger and fries yesterday. Well...what happen wassss :), the burger was absolutely delicious, fresh produce; tomatoes, onions, pickles and lettuce topped the burger. The restaurants spongy cheese and special sauce was packed in small plastic containers to pour over the burger (if you wished). The restaurants special sauce and cheese were awesome. Full of flavor. However I was displeased with the size of the burger. The burger was one inch bigger than a slider. On the menu they never state the size of the burger, so of corse you are assuming you are purchasing a regular size burger. I will never just assume again. It makes me scared to order a burger online now. I was also displeased with the french fries that I ordered from this restaurant. The fries came in attractive brown cardboard boxes, however the fries were far from attractive. The fries were weak and lifeless looking( no crunch). They wobbled back in forth as we placed them in our mouths. They didn't taste bad but they were Soggy in texture. The fries really needed its crunch badly. We just couldn't eat anymore, so we shamelessly through our fries in the garbage. The amount of fries they give you is ridiculous. I guess one would say, it makes up for the size of the burger, however it doesn't make up for the size of the burger when the fries are not as delicious as the burger. I'm pretty sure my fiancé and I had enough fries (between the two of us) to feed a nation. We were really upset with the fries and the size of the burger. My fiancé said, I told you not to order from any new places, you never listen to me. Damn, I wanted to prove him wrong, because he did say that before I placed the order LMAO. I tried to make my mistake better-right by telling him, "we (humans) are suppose to be eating baby size burgers, it's a great portion size ( heck I ain't even believed that myself)". He didn't even believe that, he just was like, "ok whatever, you are not making it better". I guess the overall question is did this restaurant meet and exceed my expectations? And Would I ever order from the restaurant again? No The restaurant did not meet and exceed my expectations, however I may order their burger again. Only in person. I am extremely disappointed at the management of this bar. This has been my spot for the longest time and always been my favorite. However last month I came in with friends and we were rudely kicked out for not buying drinks. We just came from drinking somewhere else and we wanted to chill rather than keep drinking. My friend ordered a soda from the bar but finished rather quickly since he was thirsty. Then we went on and played games that we got distracted. A waitress did come and asked if we wanted anything but we already got drinks. We were gonna order food until one of the managers rudely came to our table and told us "this is not a park bench, you need to order something or leave." We were not rude, we were not disturbing anyone and yet we were treated with disrespect. Those were his exact words. Obviously we were too shocked to reply and too upset to continue staying so we left. On our way out their whole staff was laughing and booing us. I understand the need for buying something since we were there occupying their space and we were going to buy something but the fact of the matter is, as a manager, he could have handled that situation way better with a little more tact and respect. The amount of money I've spent at that bar in the past and because we didn't order right away? We were treated with disrespect. If that same manager came up to us and told us in a respectful manner, then it would have been a totally different story. read more

E's is definitely a fun, catch-up bar to go to with friends. They have tons of card and board games (Jenga, Cards for Humanity, Sorry, etc.) and comfortable seating with friends toward the back of the bar. Bartenders are cool and the vibe is young. Loved E's! Much like another Yelper wrote, my story started similarly. I tried to go to Jacobs pickle but while waiting the 35 minutes for a table for two I was drawn to e's cafe... We were greeted by the lovely and inimitable Dana. Dana understood the sitch and suggested we return when we weren't obligated to another table at another restaurant. Well that was all it took! And seeing a few plates walk by, and smelling the delicious smells... Behind the bar, Rachel quickly poured a cold glass of chardonnay and a club soda as she took the order for the tortilla chips appetizer. They were great, no really they were! We split a cheeseburger. I hadn't had meat in a year, but the smells made it hard to resist. And it was an amazing cheeseburger. With fries. But what makes e's so great is the ambiance and the people. This place is fantastic. It's incredible how quickly they were able to take Slightly Oliver's pseudo-chic layout and make it into a casual, fun (almost grungy) bar that just screams "Good Time." The bartenders are friendly and approachable, and certainly know their stuff. It's uncommon for a regular bar to have a good wine by the glass selection, so I was pleasantly surprised (read: almost speechless with shock) when, after ordering a glass of rose on a hot day, asked me if I wanted the Provencal Rose or the Spanish Rose. They make fantstic cocktails, and treat everyone like family. I haven't tried the food yet, but I'm sure I will soon as I just moved across the street. I've lived on the upper west side for almost 20 years. E's has quickly and easily become my favorite neighborhood bar. The beer list, decor, friendly staff, and atmosphere are all hard to match on the upper west side. However, the best thing about the place is the food. They are inventive but flawlessly execute on the classics. Sean works the room and makes sure everyone has everything they need. Ethan is a super hands on owner playing equal parts air traffic controller and reveler. I bring all my friends here, and they become immediate fans. Bring your friends and support a great group of people and a local establishment. I recently had my 40th birthday party in the back room. The space is perfect for groups up to 40 or so people. They were a class act the whole way through, from initial planning to execution the night of. Only thing I would change would be opening an hour earlier on Friday's. Perhaps they can do so just for me. VIP happy hour sounds nice. read more

this is a bar worth schlepping to the Upper BEST Side for! for my friend's birthday they let him claim a few tables in the back room, and it worked pretty well even with several other groups there. busy but not too packed on a Saturday - imagine my shock! the ultra-efficient ordering interface was awesome. you ordered via a tablet attached to a stand, confirmed your order, swiped your credit card, and your drink came to you within minutes. it definitely saved time versus having to go all the way to the front (this place is narrow, but pretty deep). the house bourbon was actually a solid pick, at 10 bucks for a generous pour. wide selection of board games and card games are on hand too. sure, there's Scrabble, Cards Against Humanity, and plenty of other games you've played a zillion times and have pretty much lost patience for, but look hard enough and you'll find gems such as Codenames and Sushi Go in the collection. there was music but not too loud that you need to yell over people. and I give kudos to any place that puts some Talking Heads in their music rotation to balance out against the junk that passes for pop music these days. E's Bar ain't no Mudd Club, and it ain't no CBGB, but it ain't no foolin' around neither. read more

This bar serves quite well its main purpose of handling overflow from Jacob's Pickles-- and then some. We were here for about 45 minutes last Saturday, hanging out in a comfortable booth while waiting for a JP table to open up, and enjoying some drinks and bites as appetizers. I thought their prices were a bit random - $7-9 for a beer but only $10 for a cocktail? Strange, but I wanted a cocktail anyway, so it actually worked out pretty well for me. I had to try the Honey Nut Old Fashioned (peanut-infused bourbon, honey, bitters), which I thought was wonderful. How could one not love a liquid, alcoholic honey nut cheerio? We also put in one order each of regular and spicy fries, which both came with ketchup. The spicy fries were so very spicy, they were numbing my tongue and I could no longer taste my old fashioned properly, but they were also tasty, so I just ate more after finishing my drink. For $5, the amount of fries was pretty substantial. We halfheartedly attempted to play Cards Against Humanity. We didn't actually end up playing as we were too busy catching up, but I love that games are there should anyone want them. This should be, like, a standard bar thing. read more

Fun hole up on the west side. I had read it on a "best date night" bar list AND we were in search of a cheap burger and ended up here. The Tray app they suggested for ordering food was broke, but at least on a BUSY crowded Saturday night we managed to snag a table. Beers were good, food was solid and cheap (and a little more worldly then normal bar food; I loved the chicken satay sticks). All in a fun spot for a cheap meal. read more

Such a chill bar. We ventured in here because we were waiting for Jacob's Pickles. Starting off the Bloody Mary were pretty good and only $6. The bartender even hooked us up with a free round! After enjoying a couple bloodys we went to Jacob's Pickles and then after brunch we made our way back here. We played some Cards Against Humanity and Uno which was a great time. They even came around with this spin wheel thing for a free shot. Atmosphere was great, it never got too crowded and the volume was low enough for 6 of us to have a conversation. This is a great spot to come with friends on a casual evening in the UWS. They have a good selection of beers and plenty of space. The best part of this bar is the GAMES. They have jenga, connect 4, uno etc and enough sets that it's easy to nab one even when it's crowded. I would definitely recommend this place for group hangouts or a casual date. read more

My original review is below and based on my experience. Marc B was quick to contact me and clean up the situation. I am giving three stars for an overall experience that includes his note to me that took professionalism, humility and humanity. I appreciate your being authentic and responsible around the experience. I will return soon and write a fresh review at some point. My original 2stars was not about the quality of the restaurant but the quality of my experience which has since improved dramatically thanks to Marc B. Rude. Rude. There is a step near the front of the bar on the right of the door. I tripped. Then I said. "That's dangerous" instead of an inquiry into if I am okay or not or an acknowledgment of the possibility that it could be perceived as dangerous and given that there is a worn off piece of red tape to warn people...yes it's practically gone. Anyway the bartender manager response was that no one in the past year and a half has ever said that and that he works 6 days. Sounds like code for "your nuts lady" I was really shocked. I was offering feedback in a very polite manner. Companies pay good money for customer feedback. To his credit. My Bloody Mary is awesome! I'd definitely come back but if I see something dangerous ...now I know to keep my mouth shut because no one gives a shit! read more

Solid bar in UWS in Manhattan that isn't overrun by tourists - but locals instead. It can get busy inside, but it can be fun. Came out here on a Saturday night. First thing I noticed was that there was no bouncer and the bartenders were way to busy to check people's ID's. As soon as I got inside I wanted a drink, obviously. I stood at the end of the bar for about 10 minutes before the bartender taking care of that half of the bar asked what I wanted. This is after he took orders from one group right in front of him, twice. So it just seems like he's incapable of seeing the bar as a whole, which is unfortunate on a Saturday. Then my friends wanted to get drinks and while he was waiting I finished my drink because it took another 15 minutes. The bartender was throwing pineapple juice cans as a trick (I guess) while mixing a drink and while that was cute and all, in the time he was juggling, he could've taken other people's orders. The best part is that the gin&tonic I got was $10 and he poured in *maybe* 3/4 of a shot into it. So, service 0/10, quality of drinks 2/10, and prices 5/10. read more

I really wanted to like this bar as I love the UWS and especially bars with games but I was left with a feeling of meh. I came on a Friday night at 7pm and found open booths at the back so took a seat. I was pleasantly surprised that there are screens for ordering rather then having to wait for someone to come serve you or wait at the bar. This is where things go downhill. A Tito's is 12.25?!?! That is utterly outrageous. You can buy a liter of Tito's for $30 and change. Tito's is even priced above more expense vodka's like Ketel One, etc. These prices are reflective of a lounge or club and not a dive bar. I would expect a Tito's to be around $8. Then, someone came to our table at 8:20pm with a piece of paper saying our table was reserved at 8:30pm. Apparently they have a policy that groups can randomly request reservations at any time and then they will kick current patrons out of the seating?! This is completely unacceptable. If you have tables reserved, they should be from the start of the night and not random. If I knew the table was going to be reserved I would have found other space but by that time the bar was much more full. Luckily the group never came so they took the reservation away from the table about 15 after which obviously was a waste of time for the bar to print out anyways. We did order the Chicken Things which were surprisingly solid. All in all, not impressed and unless I am in the mood for beer only (which is rare), I won't likely be returning anytime soon. read more
