So I bumped into a pal of mine in the neighborhood.. I was telling him how I was going to grab a burger before I went to work. He mentioned to me that he knows a place in the neighborhood that has really good burgers. I usually go to my familiar spots, but I figured the way he was talking this place up for their burgers, I might as well give it a shot. Why not right? So we enter "Nobody Told Me", which is a new venue in the neighborhood, at least to me. It was cool. We sat at the bar. I asked for a menu and the Bartender just pointed to the menu that's on the wall. So I made my selection of Burger. I'm honestly probably a boring Burger person because for the most part I just like meat, cheese and bun. I mean, a nice fried egg over easy doesn't hurt. I've also done that with some mac & cheese, and it was incredibly delicious but also, very gluttonous to say the least. lol. In any case, I ordered my burger. Meat, cheese, and bun. I think it was a double Patti Smashburger maybe? And it came with some fries. The burger was good. It was actually better than what I expected. It was juicy without being all bloody and had flavor. It was also a pretty good size.. I mean I couldn't finish it.. I don't eat huge portions or meals.. The fries were good too. I might request a bit more crisp on the fries if I go back. That's just me.. But they were good nonetheless. Burger and fries also had a bit of a lite oniony flavor to them.. I guess to add some flavor.. As far as the vibe in the spot, it was cool. Room was dim as it was day time outside so it was chill. Seemed to be a pretty young crowd of new people who have recently moved in the neighborhood. Who knows? I've only lived here for 50 years.. but it was a cool experience.. They had some cool music playing lightly so you can carry a convo.. Random Friday evening walk-in and the place was packed at 6 pm, with limited standing room in the outdoor seating area. Limited beer options on tap, and they were out of the Vliet Pilsner ($9) so got the Narragansett Lager ($9) Morningside II ($17) was the other drink we ordered and given how busy they were, was pleasantly surprised to get our drinks within 10 mins of ordering. Lived in the area on the UWS for many years and it was my go to. Food - Hands down best burger in the city. I've had it many many times. Since I moved I either order ahead to take it home or make sure I stop in to eat. Elevated double smash burger. It stayed together and it's just Devine. The falafel burger is also great amongst other items on the menu. Cocktails are great as well. Service - you basically grab an open table and they bring you water. The rest is on you. You go to the bar to order and pay the bill. They just bring the food. The bartenders are very attentive and friendly. Ambiance - cool atmosphere. The music is perfect. Not too soft and not too loud. Both of us were in love with the experience. There was only one server/bartender and he was killing it behind the bar and with the table top service even with a steady flow of customers shortly after our arrival. 1st: incredible cocktails: How To Start A Fire margarita (got 2) + Copy Of A Copy + So What? HH cocktail. Exactly as described, beautifully presented. 2nd: the food was sublime. Seriously, everything was just so creative and delicious. Ordered: -fish tacos, fried chicken slider for sis, shishitos with bbq glaze, basic but perfectly done fries with addictive leek dip and smokey ketchup, and a spinach&artichoke empanada with a dusting of spices. I was shocked and pleasantly surprised that the tacos ($5 for Happy Hour) were so large and generously topped (including unseen avocado).. and I'm typically a huge proponent of "less is more". No other HH version comes close for the value. I'm a fish taco connoisseur fr and those were some of the best I've had in so long -- definitely my new Manhattan favorite. We could not stop raving about the service and our meals for hours!! must come back to try more of the menu / whatever is new! Summer is nice because there is some additional seating outside. I've only gone for drinks and appetizers but they've all been great. I love the fries with leek dip and the masala chickpeas. I pulled up the handy dandy ordering app and found Nobody Told Me just 900' north of where I was staying. Never mind the levels of snow on the ground, the single digit temps outside, I needed to walk. So I donned my oversized polar bear of a jacket, some sneaks, and took off on a walk that should have been just three blocks through the snow. No biggie. As the brisk air tickled my eyeballs peeking through my furry hood, I walked three blocks, stopped, and checked my directions. How could I have missed it?? I turned around, walked back half a block or so, and had to peer into businesses thinking perhaps I missed it because it was closed. In the near distance I spied a dimly lit, cursive written, neonish sign that was close enough to the words Nobody Told Me and bee lined for warmth. As I got closer, it seemed closed. Dang. There goes my late night craving. I turned towards the door, peered in, and hot dang, it was open~! Dim lights. Fully crowded. That must be a good sign - right?! I walked in and was surprised to find a VERY bustling diveyesque bar filled with people smiling, chatting, and enjoying their favorites bevs. I walked to the bar and was greeted immediately. I ordered the double cheeseburger. Nothing fancy. Just the one item. My order was taken with gratitude, reminded that the meal comes with fries, and asked if I wanted to add anything else. The burger was prepped, and walked out to me by the most pleasant person who had also taken my order. Shock. A dive bar? I walked back to my digs (still had work to get back to), with a new found appreciation and what will likely become my regular spot when I am in town. Oh, and the burger? Puhlease - DEE-LISH~!! Walking in nobody is there to greet you and seat you at a table, which isn't a problem but no one tells you anything till you ask. When you sit where you'd like they will bring a menu but you have to go up to the register and tell them what you want which I felt kinda weird about. The ambience of the place is a chill and cozy spot if you aren't looking for anything fancy, and just wanna come in, eat, and leave. Lastly, the food was overall good. ***4 1/2 stars*** A few days ago when we were planning our up-and-down Manhattan hike, I asked my only UWS contact for a lunch/cocktail recommendation that was "edgy" and "open-minded about sweaty people." This was her immediate response, and yes, I will continue seeking her opinions on such matters. As soon as I laid eyes on the hipster snow globe lamp things by the bar, I knew we were in good hands. My chum and I stopped in for a brunch before noon this past Saturday. She'd also been here before and supported the spot, so the fact that this ended up being a positive experience wasn't remotely surprising given that I managed to get two separate endorsements on it beforehand. It might have been the slightly ominous weather slash humidity, but there was maybe one other table occupied and it was very quiet/chill in here. Magnificent, magnificent progress had been made from Bowling Green to here (I think we did it in three hours, and that was with a prior diner stop, so yeah - gold standard urban hiking right there), so multiple cocktails were in order. I gave the bourbon one a long look but decided with the July heat to pivot to something more refreshing and went with the Pink Robots ($15), featuring carbonated lemon vodka and strawberry-champagne shrub. It was tasty but not mind-blowing - I think in hindsight I would have opted for something that wasn't quite as citrus, though the strawberry-champagne certainly helped the situation considerably. We also split two apps, one sweeter, one more savory - the French toast sticks ($16) and the bacon dates ($15). Both were very solid. The best I've had? No, but still really good and worth recommending. This place knows what it's doing when it comes to supporting cast members with its dishes. Blueberry maple? Of course it should be included with French toast. Whipped ricotta and MORE maple? Yes, 100% should be hanging out with the bacon dates. Very strong optics and decisions made in the kitchen. The service was excellent. The bartender was also the de facto waitress behind the counter, and was very friendly/hospitable/accessible. I also appreciate that even though it was a slower time there, she was ALWAYS finding ways to occupy her time - whenever I went up for a food or drink order, she was busily chopping up garnishes for future cocktails and/or tidying up. We also might have been suffering from price point PTSD after finding out 80 blocks south that disposable cameras are now about $45 (don't get me started), but given that this is an edgy brunch spot on the northern part of the UWS, I thought the prices were pretty competitive here. I tried: + Bonita apple bomb + Call to arms cocktail + Spicy chicken sandwich + Spinach and artichoke dip empanada + Mac and cheese Food was pretty hit or miss. The mac and cheese was the best thing we ate, the chicken sandwich was bad, and the empanada was somewhere in the middle. The bonita apple bomb cocktail was fantastic, though. Such a cute vibey spot! Came for drinks with some friends and easily found a seat (Saturday evening). It's a bit dark with a cute sign with their name in lights. You go up to the bar to order and they'll quickly serve you your drinks. Everyone is super friendly and really nice. I got a pina colada-daiquiri mix - it wasn't too strong as you'd expect but my friends drink was pretty strong. Everyone loved their drinks - especially mine! My drink was really creamy and sweet and reminded me of ice cream. So tasty! Would def recommend and will be back to try their food options! read more

My friends and I decided to pop in before our way home and we are so glad that we did. We ordered oysters, sliders, fries, and a few drinks. Oysters were so fresh and delicious. The sliders are only available until 6pm, during happy hour, but they are a must have! And you can't do wrong with fries! Drinks were a hit! While this is absolutely a drink first type spot, I have to talk about the burger first. Think Big Mac on steroids, double smash burger, shredded lettuce, a classic sauce on a fresh bun that holds it all in place, and what you get, is a masterpiece. Arguably my favorite burger in Manhattan. Come for the burger, trust me. Anyway, on to the rest - for UWS, reasonable drink prices, cool upbeat cocktail bar vibe, cool and chic but can still come in casual without skipping a beat. Great drink menu, gets a bit loud weekend nights, but still a blast, with polite, attentive staff. Outside the burger and chicken sandwich (which is also good!), it's a small plates spot, so if you're looking for a full meal and those don't do it for you, it might not be your cup of tea. This place was so cool! We came mostly for the drinks because the drink menu is much longer than the food menu and the bar looks amazing. The drinks were definitely on point. But wow. We were stunned by how good the food was. We got the hamburger, the spicy fried chicken sandwich, and the shrimp sliders for mains and got the bacon dates as a starter. The entrees came out before the dates and we were actually so thankful because the salty smoky fries offset the sweetness of the dates perfectly. Definitely loud and with less seating than one might hope, we still shouted happily to each other over a delicious meal. The only thing I might say could have made it better would be a curtain over the door or one of those temporary foyers that create a second door. This place was hopping on a Friday night and the constant open and closing of the door made it a bit chilly (we were seated right by the door and wow I feel like an octogenarian writing this) Side note: we had a short wait for a table, and the menu says to please order at the bar, but the lovely hostess came to check on us, give us water, offered to take our order, all the while running around with dozens of delivery orders and making sure each delivery man left with the right order.
