After we all checked in, we explored each of the room. Some were super difficult, some were "easy". Each room lets you know if it's more physical, mental, or team work/ communication. Because each room is timed, I felt like I was in squid game without the gore and anxiety from pending doom. It's a great concept, especially if you go with an entertaining group looking for a fun time.

As a four-person group, we decided to take on Poe's Chambers. The theming of this room is immaculate! Just the door to the room evokes the early 19 hundreds. Poe's Chambers really makes you feel like you're in the creative poet's home. I loved the overall feel! My fiancé and I were able to get the group through some of the puzzles, just due to our vast experience with rooms. I believe even our first-timer friends were able to see how we were making the connections and able to get their brains going too! I felt like we all really handled the room well and that it was friendly to them. There is one puzzle in particular I think E.R.A. needs to update. If it doesn't sit just so, it's easy to miss the clue. Though, everything else in the room worked flawlessly. Our game master was very attentive when we asked for two clues, though it took us a bit to decode her hints. We got out with 7 minutes to spare. I can see why this room would be an 8/10 difficulty. It's a fairly linear room, which I prefer when it comes to games. I've done rooms that feel scattered and those frustrate me to no end, lol. I do think a group of beginners might struggle, just a bit, in this room. Truly though, great room! I hope we'll get to go back again! 8/10 recommend

A few colleagues and I went to R&H Escape Room on November 23rd. We booked on November 18th for a…read moregroup of 5 for the 1:45pm timeslot. A couple of days later, a R&H employee called me (I think her name was India) and asked if I could move my time to either 12:30pm or in the evening - 5:30pm because when I booked, there was some kind of system glitch. She didn't really provide any great details, but I assumed she was telling me that two groups were booked at the same time. It sounded a bit sketchy to me since she didn't really provide much details. I told her that I don't think it would work for us, but I would reach out to my colleagues. I reached out to everyone in my party and as suspected, the earlier time did not work for the entire group. I reached back out via text to let R&H know. The next day, someone called me again and told me that if I cannot move up to 12:30pm or later in the day, then they will have to cancel the booking and I will be refunded for it. Despite booking less than a week before the event, I had been planning a teambuilding event with my colleagues for over a month. I didn't want the opportunity to go to waste, so I reluctantly agreed to move to the 12:30pm timeslot. R&H did tell us we can return free of charge in the future due to inconvenience. When we arrived on Saturday November 23rd, we had a colleague who was arriving a couple of minutes late. We were informed that we would still have to end on time because there was a party scheduled afterward. HMMMMM!!! This is when my suspicions became confirmation. I always suspected there was something odd about the "system glitch." I don't believe there was a glitch... I believe there was someone who wanted to host a party there, during the timeslot we originally booked. I totally get why they would want to cancel our session - they would receive a lot more money from the party than our group. I do, however, think this was a bad business decision. This was something that showed a lack of integrity... I would have preferred they be honest and say, "hey, someone really wants your timeslot." I don't like the way they handled this at all. Because of this, I am deducting two stars from what would have been a five star review. If you're interested in reading about the actual escape room experience, here it is: Despite the escape room being a bit dusty (it needs a cleaning under and around some areas), we had a BLAST in the actual escape room. We did the Cell Block room and we did not escape, unfortunately. It was definitely a challenge! Maybe if we had our fifth group member we would have made it further. It was so much fun and it looked like it was a Black owned business. I love supporting Black owned businesses but I am not sure I can support this one based on how they move. Despite being able to return for free, I don't think I will... who's to say there won't be a "system glitch" when I book again?

The cost for entry for MD residents was five bucks per car. The park has free parking, but it appeared to be limited. For our trip, we managed to find a spot in the last parking area. So, I do not know if they close the park once the parking lots become full. We visited on a Sunday afternoon in early May, so I would imagine that the parking situation might be a bit more intense during the summer months. For our first visit, we hiked the easy Red trail, which is about 1.8 miles to the beach area. Also, the majority of the red trail was well-shaded so folks should not have too much of a problem with direct sun until hitting the beach. I thought this trail was pretty easy, and almost anyone from multiple age groups could complete this hike. The beach is a bit on the smaller side; however, we did not venture too far from the point where you complete the hike. So, maybe there are more spots on the beach. We though that the park was very dog-friendly. Although the park is dog-friendly, please keep your furry friends on a leash especially since families with young children use the Red trail. A couple of tips: -The park is trash-free so whatever you bring to park, you will have to dispose of it once you leave the park. I wished that the park had a few trash receptacles at the beginning and end of the trails. But I get that having these receptacles might result in visitors overfilling the receptacles with waste and/or the local wildlife eating things that they should not. -Although I'm not 100% sure, I think the entrance fee is cash only.

We saw snakes, bull frogs, turtles, cardinals, butterflies and eagles. When we arrived to the beach it was amazing! There was a big box with tons of toys to use to dig to find fossils. Loved all the educational information too. We laid down a blanket, pulled out the toys and had such a fun afternoon! Very very peaceful hike and location.

I liked that there was a clean bathroom between the parking lot and the beach. There were picnic tables on the sand where we enjoyed snacks. They were shaded so it was nice. The bad: There are lots of jelly fish that can definitely sting so you basically cannot get into the water. No tents are allowed. The interesting: I saw lots of dogs here running around in the water. It looks very dog-friendly despite other reviews saying there are signs that don't allow dogs.

Originally, we were interested in Matapeake Beach because of the dog beach. However for our first visit (of hopefully many visits), we decided to leave the dog at home because it was super hot. But, I think in the future, we will take the dog if we can arrive to the beach around 8 am. The second reason we were interested in this beach: It is fairly close to Silver Spring, MD. With a departure of 9am, we arrived at the beach around 10 am on a summer weekday. For the most part, we did not experience too much traffic (on a weekday) in both directions Silver Spring-Matapeake-Silver Spring. Also, I think there were 1-2 tolls in each directions. Overall, I thought the beach/park was very clean and well-maintained. I'll note that there are not very many amenities (if any) on or near the beach the beach (e.g., food vendors), which necessarily was not a bad thing for me. Although parking is limited, it is free (a very pleasant surprise) as of June 2025. I'm not 100% sure, but I think there were like 50 (or less) parking spaces. Since we visited on a weekday, we did not have any trouble finding a spot in the parking lot. However, I can imagine that parking my be a bit of a nightmare on weekends and holidays. Also, the access to the beach was free (another pleasant surprise). The folks at the beach were pretty friendly and respectful of their surroundings -- for instance, I did not hear super loud music (just the soundtrack of waves, a few dogs barking, and a few kids playing); see people acting a plum fool; notice substantial litter (or other not so fun things) on the beach. Even though we were disappointed that we had to take down our beach tent, the park ranger was super nice about it. The water was a pretty smooth with little to no waves so it is nice for little humans and dogs. I think I had to walk about 0.25 miles to get to a point where the water was waist level to me, but that was a VERY minor inconvenience. Overall, I think this is a great beach for a quick day (or half a day) trip.

The clubhouse looks great inside and has a lot more merchandise than I've ever seen there before. I haven't tried the food yet, but I've heard it's pretty good. Today, I played with my son -- our first round together in a few years -- and it was a very reasonable $90 for both of us (with cart for 18 holes). I'd heard from others that the course was starting to look really nice again, and they weren't wrong. As we pulled up to the first tee, I noticed the putting green on the left was in the best condition I've ever seen it. I told my son right away -- you can tell they've really been working hard to turn this place around. The tee boxes and fairways were well-cut and in excellent shape. After a few holes, I started to realize just how much improvement has been made. There used to be a lot of bare dirt or gravel patches throughout the course, but now most of those areas have healthy grass growing. The greens were smooth and well-trimmed, and putts rolled nicely. I especially noticed the 2nd hole (par 3 over water) -- the area just past the water used to be rough and patchy, but now it's fully filled in with lush grass.

So it's been a while since I wrote the original review. After that, I pretty much tried to never…read moreplay there for several reasons. Fortunately, things have changed for the better, but not everything. So lets start with the things that still need to be addressed. First one is the people working there. They seem pretty unhappy with life and it shows. Often they seen disgruntled and you're annoying them to ask for anything. The next one, is hole 15. That hole just needs to be revamped, it sucks. Finally, the driving range is garbage. The grass is often missing and its tough to often find some actual grass to hit off of. I would recommend that they put hitting mats up top and close the grass part to rejuvenate them on a regular basis. also, it doesn't help when they tell you not to hit drivers. I mean come on, that's the most fun part of hitting the range, blasting bombs with the driver. Now, lets talk about what's gotten better. right off the bat, you'll notice the new clubhouse. its nice and has a nice external relaxation area. Well done Calvert County. To go along with the clubhouse is the repaving of the parking lot, which may not seem like much, but it really makes the whole picture look that much better. The conditions at the course have gotten much better. Are there still some areas for improvement, yes (talking to you guy that dumps the clippings around the greens or in areas that are in plain sight) but for the most part they are good. the greens were in great shape, the fairways were good, and the roughs were not just all weeds as I experienced previously. The biggest thing that surprised me were the on course personnel. For the first time ever, i actually say a refreshments cart driving around. I have been going here since the 1980's when I used to work there, and in all that time, I NEVER saw a refreshments cart. Also, there was a starter AND a marshal driving around, which I have never seen as well. So well done CHGC, in upping your game. Please try and keep it going!!
