They really take you into a Winter Wonderland filled with fun Frosty games. Talk about immersive! You truly are transported into Frosty's world where you use all your senses to find out where the heck Frosty has been taken and try to figure out who could have done this! We had only 3 people in our group though this recommends a minimum of 4. However, thanks to our trusty and highly skilled team, we we able to accomplish our mission before Frosty (and we!!) melted!! I. room and realized we hadn't done their Fryte Family room when we left the recent visit prior. The props have significantly improved as well as their puzzles. Whoever decorates their lobby does an excellent job and I love how their room posters are advertised like movies! It feels very cozy yet it's spacious in there! While they do give unlimited hints, we tend to be on the stubborn side and like to wait until we just absolutely can't figure it out. Haha.. I like that they offer public and private room options with various pricing and discounts based on number of participants. This is definitely a solid option of entertainment on a rainy or sunny day!

One of the absolute highlights of the trip was visiting Nightmare Mansion--and wow, it did not disappoint. This was hands down the best haunted house I've ever been to. The actors were incredible, the timing was perfect, and the scares are very real--in the best, most fun way. They do an amazing job of keeping you on edge the entire time. My sister had mentioned seeing a new escape room in Norfolk. But we weren't sure if it was good or quality worthy so we didn't try it. Until now. Fast forward to now, when they have 3 rooms. We decided to give it a go because we saw a groupon. This place is FANTASTIC! It's also the only escape room in Norfolk. It's diagonal from the D'art center and they do have parking. On their website it indicates it's okay to park in the lot in front of the building even if it states "tenants". It's located on the top floor, entrance is to the far right of the building. You can purchase to hide ducks in the room for an additional price. They do have restrooms but you need to get the pass code from them. They have a fun little extra thing they do where they hide a tiny bronze dragon called CeeCee and you get a sticker if you find her and get to autograph the book for doing so. We did not find her! Magical Misconceptions is essentially a Harry Potter room. It was well designed and contained quality props! Spoiler alert! It's a multi-room. We thought we were all done with casting spells and then poof! Another room! We BARELY made it with 8 seconds left!! It was a fun room! Highly recommend!! We enjoyed it so much we are doing the C.U.L.T. room next which is like a horror room. Their other room is Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I think it's also cute that they have a personalized border for their pics.

Their…read morefestive events throughout the year are quite fun and in my experience, generate shorter lines. The prices have risen over time and is a bit much in my opinion. They could sell tickets for $10 and $15 for extreme, and you would get just as much if not more business and still make a killing. Just saying. I have never done "Extreme" and never will. I am not only a proud "Irregular" but also a "Repeat offender" as the owner would say. The waits are usually very long, it can range from anywhere between 20 minutes to over 2 hours. It really helps to get there early and get in line first. They seem to take more time with you once you get inside if you are the opening act of the evening. The rooms are dark, which is really a shame since you're unable to see the decorations or themes of some of the areas, which makes them seem like a waste. Some rooms are very smelly. One year, there was a butcher shop area that stunk highly of ammonia. Some of the actors have REALLY bad breath and they get uncomfortably close. While you wait in line, you are intermittently greeted by various characters, one of them being "Bubbles the Clown".. if I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be her. Beware however, she does have a few.. "quirks" that may disturb or disgust certain visitors. (all I'll say is watch where you step!) The owner clearly enjoys his job and always remembers me when I stop by. Most things are the same or at least, very similar as you go through each year, but some stuff does change to keep it interesting. There are loud noises, messy substances, and electric shocks. A few years in a row, I had to crawl on my hands and knees through what appeared to be a giant intestine to get through one of the many obstacles. That was weird to say the least. There are rooms that include a lot of different fears and props. Everything from snakes to clowns to pitch darkness. Some special events through the year are themed around different holidays or a horror-centered gimmick. And I hate to say it, but the most annoying things to me are: 1. The other people in line. They can get very obnoxious. 2. The constant screaming. I don't like loud things, and I don't like people (or monsters for that matter) screaming in my ear. It is NOT scary, funny or anything remotely enjoyable. It causes real damage to those of us with hearing issues. It also is highly aggravating. 3. Pricing can be a bit much for what you get. 4. I'm not a fan of the saturation of pentagrams all over the place. It's just lame and unimaginative. There are merchandise stands outside with some neat items and lots of stuff to look at while you wait. Just be prepared for some startling surprises if you're spotted being off-guard. The actors seem to have a good time, and if you're a good sport, you can have a good time along with them. It's always fun to join in on the spirit of things. (and besides, when else will you get the opportunity to hang out with some monsters and let loose for awhile?) Anything that feels like a real-life horror movie (with the controlled fear element of course) is a must-do for the Halloween season or any other time during the year that you might need a good, safe scare to keep you on your toes! Because nothing breaks up the monotony of a typical, mundane evening in March, May, or July than a good-natured threat from an Axe-wielding Clown or a playful proposition from a demon-possessed girl covered in blood. Ya know, just another Saturday for some of us! Final word: it's fun and most of the time, you never know what you're gonna walk into when you pass through each door or curtain. So if you decide to visit, proceed with caution, and remember to have fun and enjoy the madness!

Brandon was nice over the phone, sharing availability and suggesting the lone family friendly room (90's). Booked via SPER website, code made it $90 for 6 ppl, no tax. PRO TIP: check Groupon, add coupon code at checkout for even lower cost. Dark parking lot amplified awkward traffic flow/points of entry and exit; nearly hit by an exiting car while we waited for a space. Inside was open and definitely minimalistic; liked the ping pong table but chuckled at the single (10x13) framed paper logo sign above "the desk," staffed by a female employee that only handled waivers. When I asked how long they were open, she said "after you're done." #Welcome Brandon fumbled through the clunky scenario introduction before walking us up to the room. Some good retro aspects (boom-box, Simon, ET doll, etc) BUT, overall, pretty low rent decor: worn carpet, pixelated color printer "posters," analog wall timer. Ironically, this is a tad reflective of the 90's but mostly my knock against the quality. Lackluster puzzles, challenges, and tasks. A key mistakenly opened 2 different padlocks. #QualityControl. We probably won't return, even if they do deploy more family friendly scenarios. VB escape Room has $90 special for 6 ppl with waaaay more innovation and better crafted scenarios.

They were in the process of training staff, so our introduction was told to us by a trainee. She was ok, but could have been more excited about it. We were showed upstairs to the room and explained the story. The room had good props. We ended up missing a clue because they had curtains closing the room off and another set after the first set of curtains. It was a bit confusing. We had a great time. It was fun! We were a group of 3 maximizing our trek to the Peninsula. Even though I prefer staying on the south side, I quite favor this location over the VB one. Our game master, Akira was energetic, enthusiastic and very patient with us from greeting us in the lobby through the end of the game. A walkie-talkie is your communication device. We had some oversights & for those who struggle with presbyopia & small print it can also add to the challenges. Haha funny but not funny, just wait. Just make sure to have several people in your group double check the code when plugging in your answers. We usually do that, but for some reason, we managed to still do that & not open the lock & actually have the correct answer, thus eating up some of our time. Per our game master, Cabin 11 is considered the most difficult of the current three rooms. My only recommendation is to follow up with replacement of dried up markers. Ours died on us. But fortunately, the group was able to power through ;-) Not a biggie. Overall we had a good time, but we didn't truly feel as if it was a well merited escape. :-P
