Our niece loved her surprise birthday balloons when she unlocked a clue ‍!!! Nice touch, thanks to Aunt Janice!! 2/21/2026 game: Great escape room theme and props! They really take you into a Winter Wonderland filled with fun Frosty games. Talk about immersive! You truly are transported into Frosty's world where you use all your senses to find out where the heck Frosty has been taken and try to figure out who could have done this! We had only 3 people in our group though this recommends a minimum of 4. However, thanks to our trusty and highly skilled team, we we able to accomplish our mission before Frosty (and we!!) melted!! My grandson and I went back not long before Christmas and tried the new room, Frosty, it was great. Do not ask me how, but we had seconds left and got out. Very fun! I went with my husband and two kids (12 and 7) and we had a great time! I was worried that it would be too advanced for my 7 year old, but he really got into it--we all found clues and brainstormed together. We did the Frosty beginner, which was perfect as it was everyone's first time. We solved it with a few hints along the way. The staff person was so sweet and helpful. This latest escape room experience for us was a spur of the moment kinda night. We found Black Cat online through a Google search. My husband called the day before we wanted to book our experience and spoke with a kind woman. She helped us book our room, and was very friendly and patient with us. What threw us for a loop is that she asked what difficulty we'd like! We went with intermediate since it's been a little while since we've done a room. We got our room booked for a Saturday evening. Our room theme was Dollhouse, and it can accommodate up to 8 people. I found it very creepy yet appropriate for this time of year. Sam was who greeted us and was our game master for the evening. He was knowledgeable and also funny. He got into the theme of the room, and honestly it left smiles on all our faces. What we appreciate is unlike other rooms we've done, he didn't give clues without us asking. One little tidbit popped up, but it wasn't so much a clue as a suggestion. It's hard to explain w/o giving away that clue of the room. I really liked this room's design and I also liked that it was a linear kind of room too. I did want to mention, we escaped in 39 minutes. Just saying, just saying. No clues asked. In the humble words of my sister in law, "we're built different" haha. At the end of our session, Sam mentioned they're opening two more rooms, and one should be end of this year! The other one, next year. We'll probably be back when the newest room opens up later this year. Maybe advanced mode? We'll see! Fingers crossed. (And my sister in law, who doesn't Yelp, wanted to make sure that I mention how much we all really liked Sam. Thanks for being such a chill guy and cool game master! Great customer service! Unfortunately we did not get to experience the dollhouse room due to no fault of their own. A transformer blew literally right before we were heading in, leaving a power outage. The owners were super sweet, kind and apologetic even though it was not their fault. They went above and beyond to accommodate us. I won't go into detail but they provided us with plenty of options and I truly, from the bottom of my heart appreciate their grit and customer service. They definitely did NOT leave us high and dry! Also their loving disposition was clearly evident in their recommendations for their other competitors. They recommended other escape rooms but I had done just about all the rooms at the other escape rooms as well. Thank you for being so kind! Hands down the BEST escape room I've ever done in multiple states! Black cat makes you think a lot and has multiple puzzles for you to do, rather than just the normal padded lock and key. We tried the Dollhouse and the Santa themed rooms and my team and I were never disappointed. We were always aware of red herrings, which really get you in escape rooms ! The way they help you as well is pretty cool. The GMs are fantastic and nice and will clue you in a puzzle without totally giving it away. read more

What a fun way to celebrate my son's 14th birthday as a family! There were 13 of us, with some as young as 5 and as old as 47, but all of us had a hand in solving the escape room. The host suggested we try an intermediate challenge since were so many of us. Plus, some of us have tried other escape rooms before, so we were up for the challenge. Admittedly, we did have to ask the operator for clues a few times, but we did work as a team, and ended up solving it with 2 minutes to spare. It was satisfying to get to the end and know we worked well together. It was challenging enough, without being discouraging and the puzzles to solve were really fun. I also enjoyed the theme and design of the Stray Cat Speakeasy room and the antique look of it all. One suggestion: a reminder text or email the night prior or day of the event would be helpful to receive. Overall though, I highly recommend it. read more

This was the third escape room I did with my adult kids this year and it was a blast. We were tasked with saving Christmas and we really loved the setup and puzzles. I liked that there were (at least from my perspective) some red herrings. I think that based on other reviews that some of the gear may have been for a higher difficulty. I highly recommend this escape room. This mother-daughter duo have a knack for thoughtfully putting together clues that challenge you without completely confusing you! Every item in the room from the furniture to wall decor to props complete the immersion process and convince its occupants they've entered a whole new world. I've done their first two escape rooms, "The Basement of Misfit Toys" and "The Dollhouse", the latter being my favorite of the two! Expect to get creative and have to solve your way through possibly more than one room. Big tip: call out what you see in case someone in your group is looking at its answer. Pool your findings together, don't keep it a secret! Suggest solutions even if you think you're wrong. It's always the one who didn't speak up that had the answer all along. Have fun! It was our first time and we all had a blast- the host said while monitoring us, she needed changing the mode to difficult bc we surpassed the easy and moderate schemes super early on- and we finished the difficult level in under 55 minutes! She was really excited and surprised by our family! The theme for the room was the dollhouse- we were ghost hunters trying to solve the murder, and help the ghosts Rest In Peace! An incredibly experience from start to finish! We found this place from a coupon book for spring break and tried out the doll room on intermediate. What we found was an incredible set up, friendly and enthusiastic staff and a truly vigorous and thrilling puzzle! We finished with 10 minutes to spare and had so much fun we immediately scheduled for the speaksy on advanced mode! We just completed it and found a puzzle just as exciting with new staff and a trainee who remained a constant source of joy! We managed to finish with 19 minutes to spare and adored every minute of it! We're already planning a trip back this June for their newest room! read more

Easy five stars. I've been to another mom and pop escape room in Williamsburg and didn't enjoy it at all. Took the leap at this one and was extremely happy with the experience. The theme hits you in the face from the moment you walk in. You are presented with a short video associated with the room you are going to escape from which was nice. Another neat aspect is you can choose your difficulty for any room vs the room being a set difficulty. The props were very nice and didn't seem cheap like some other escape rooms. The cash register in the room we did was a legit old school cash register, same goes for the safe. This really helped with the feel. We can't wait to go back and try the other two rooms. read more

Just went here for the second time and did their "Basement of Misfit Toys" room. My girlfriend and I had Emma as our game master again and she is the absolute best! She is enthusiastic and loves her job, I could not have asked for a better experience. I went with my 8 and 11yr old. Even on "easy difficulty" it was challenging. We solved the mystery with 50 seconds left. Both kids had a great time - but my 8yr got a little scared when we had to turn the lights in the room off. We will definitely be going to the "speak easy" once it opens up. read more

I would give Black Cat Escape Room more stars if possible!! I hardly ever write reviews, but this one is necessary. My husband, a friend and I went to Black Cat last weekend and actually ended up doing 2 rooms back to back because we were so impressed by the first (Speakeasy followed by Dollhouse). My husband and I have done probably 6 rooms at other places, so not complete newbies, but this was our friend's first experience. Reasons Black Cat is by far the best escape room venue I have experienced: *The storylines, decor, clues, contraptions - all superb! Honestly they are so incredibly creative and different than any other place! Our rooms included a well thought out, entertaining video beforehand as most do - but done in a unique way. If you have done escape rooms before, you start getting a sense of what to look for or may be bored by the same type of clues, connections, and contraptions over and over. Both rooms we did here were different in this sense than any rooms I have experienced at other places. *They offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced clues for EACH room! Instead of saying a room is a 7/10 difficulty and that is that - the customer is able to determine how hard they want to make the room and Black Cat adjusts to that (they take away or add some clues, or replace clues with easier/harder ones, etc). We did advanced level for both rooms and it was definitely challenging but do-able! (We escaped the Speakeasy with 1:15 left and the Dollhouse with only 45 sec!) *Owned and operated by a mother daughter super duo! Not only is Cailey the absolute sweetest, but her and her mom come up with all the stories, clues, contraptions, and room decor ON THEIR OWN! Like not only has the ideas, but they build everything. We had a private room for 5 and truly enjoyed the challenges at the intermediate level. We started at beginner and our hostess changed a challenge as we went so we could have intermediate puzzles. We were smarter than we thought! The dolls weren't weird and spooky but there were a whole lot of them staring at us! We had a great time and finished with a minute to spare. We had 2 older, one in their 20s and two teens/pre-teens under 15. Highly recommend it and search for a 20% discount coupon for your group. We loved our hostess! read more
