We escaped The Agency and had fun overall, but there were a couple of puzzles that broke what we consider one of the unspoken rules of escape rooms. Without giving away spoilers, one required using a personal cell phone, and another relied on basic color theory without any chart or reference provided in the room. My husband and I have done 30+ escape rooms together, and one of the things we appreciate most is when everything you need to solve the room is contained within the experience itself. Our family did escape, but we personally prefer rooms that don't require outside tools or knowledge to progress. Just something to be aware of if that's important to you, too. read more

Don't judge this one based on location! We absolutely love this place and we've done about 40 escape rooms in five different states. I was hesitant based on a couple reviews and the location but it turns out this is one of our favorites and we've done all but one room here. One of the best parts is that the rooms are bright enough to see! Sounds trivial but I can't see well in the dark and trying to look for clues or put codes in tiny locks without much light is quite difficult. Plus, I believe this allows for more families especially if they have children who don't like the dark. The puzzles are fun and interactive. The rooms have some great detail and it really elevates the experience. Something different here is that the puzzles are not always linear which works well when you have a decent age gap between players. They are difficult enough to be challenging but not impossible. I love that with the clues from the staff you can basically choose the level of difficulty. When my husband goes he likes to set a 3 clue limit and would like to not have to ask for any clues. My youngest waits until he feels stuck, goes to a different puzzle, then comes back and if he's still stuck he will ask. My middle son will ask right away so he can get on to the next puzzle! So it's really up to you on how you want the experience to go which allows you to accommodate all ages. I really enjoyed the bank heist because of the thought that went into the puzzles. My son's favorite was the theater because of how unique the clues were and how they created actions to get to the next puzzle, he basically liked all the moving parts. The absolute best part of this place is the staff!! Eva, Jack, and Camden were phenomenal! They were so helpful and really want everyone to enjoy the experience from start to finish! The give clues based on your skill level and help in any way possible. Best pace to park is Macy's and it's on the right as soon as you exit Macy's by the escalators. They have some games in the waiting area if you need to kill some time which is fantastic. In response to the comments about things being broken.... We've done four of the five rooms here and only once did something not work. An item was supposed to open and reveal a key, it clicked like the mechanism was working but it didn't open. A staff member came in and got us to the next step without hesitation so it didn't waste any time. There are a lot of moving parts in any escape room and sometimes things can malfunction. I don't think that's a negative reflection on the staff at all and they work to make sure those things get fixed or provide a temporary solution. We've had malfunctions with other escape room companies as well but instead of letting it ruin the experience, we understand that it is a possibility and the staff cannot avoid random issues that pop up, especially when some people are overly aggressive with things. It's the reason they have to say that you only need a finger worth of pressure or they tell you not to climb on things or force things open. It happens, the rooms are still so much fun! read more

In short, the employee working was rude and short with us the entire time but especially after we brought up that we were disappointed in the game, and the end of our game was ruined by the final big puzzle mechanism that they admit is extremely finicky and many people cannot solve despite having all the correct clues. They are aware that multiple puzzles have frequently issues with working properly but instead of fixing them just say oh well, that's your problem. My group did the western themed escape room and multiple puzzles were not working correctly and it completely ruined the experience for us. We were told that the Western and Theater themed rooms were the easiest but the western had one puzzle that puts it a step above the other, but it turned out that the puzzle isnt actually more difficult, it just doesn't work reliably and many guests actually cannot get the mechanism to work. We found the clue and the hint for getting the lock to work, and everyone in our group tried it, some multiple times and we couldn't get it to work. The staffer asked if we wanted a hint and then just repeated the hint we had already found that did not help and then eventually asked if we wanted a "workaround" because the lock is notoriously difficult and many people can't get it to work even with all of the correct information. Mind you, this is the last puzzle that gets you the money & the gun to escape the room. She said the workaround was just to "pretend" we had the items and go to the next area to leave the room which ends the game. Are you kidding me? The workaround for the big end of the game is to play pretend that we solved all the puzzles and got all the items out?? There's no other way to do that? No backup props or other hidden way we can access it- even though this is a KNOWN issue with the game? There was also another puzzle that we accessed because it was malfunctioning. We just opened it by searching around without having any idea it was a puzzle. Then when we later uncovered the clue, we were told we could just skip that because sometimes the puzzle opens accidentally. If they know this, why not fix it or change the puzzle mechanism? I really don't understand. We ended up running out of time because the "workaround" for the final puzzle felt lame so we kept trying to see if we could successfully work the final puzzle. When we asked the staffer after the game to show us how the puzzle works so we could see what we were doing wrong, she refused, despite acknowledging that we had all the right information to do so and that many people struggle with it. She said she had another group coming in right after but there was nobody there and it would have only taken a minute to do. When I brought up how disappointing it was to have the climax of the game ruined by a faulty mechanism she got very defensive and robotic instead of apologizing or having any sympathy that we felt disappointed in the experience. It would have been nicer to have our feelings acknowledged than to be told I'm out of luck because I didn't want the ridiculously lazy workaround. If we could have solved that puzzle then the other smaller issues we had (like waiting 10 minutes in the lobby to get our change after we paid) would be overlooked, but not being able to finish the game correctly and having to deal with her sour attitude about it really killed the joy for us. Instead of having repeat customers for the other rooms we will just never come back. There are many other options to choose from in the area. Not to mention it is EXPENSIVE. $40 per person is a lot of money, and there is no excuse for things not to be operating properly, especially when the issues are known and longstanding and not difficult or expensive to update. read more

This was such a great family bonding experience! Our kids worked together and with us to crack the case and escape. It's kind of a bummer that it was only roughly an hour! The booking online was super easy! They sell in parties of ten and we had 6 but the other 4 didn't show up. Might have been a different experience with strangers so look at booking the private room! This experience was such a disappointment. My husband and I love escape rooms. We have gone to almost every escape room business in the valley. This was our first time at Escape the Room Boise. When we arrived at our appointed time we were rushed into the room and told it was more important to start the room than sign waivers. We went immediately into the room and were rushed through the story and rules. It felt very abrupt and I felt as though we were bothering the hostess by being there. The room itself was very challenging (Clockwork Tower). We didn't finish, which is fine. We often don't finish and usually need clues. I did feel like a lot of the puzzles were disconnected and the room had a clunky feel. I tried multiple times waving my arms (for two straight minutes) for clues which went ignored. Finally, we gave up asking for clues since obviously nobody was watching the camera. We just tried to focus on having fun. When our time was up we were told "times up you can leave now." There was nobody to show us the way out or ask about our experience. When we made it to the lobby we explained our frustration and the kid working said sorry it wasn't his fault because he wasn't supposed to be the one answering clues. What a bummer. I was really excited to try other rooms here, but probably won't be back after this. read more

We went for the first a few months ago and took our then 8 year old son. He had a blast and cannot wait to do it again. We as the parents did too. We did the Heist in the Wild West. When we go back he wants to do a harder one. Great way to spend an hour or so working as a family. The staff is super friendly as well and just made the experience even better. read more

Had a great time! Challenging yet exciting escape rooms! We had a very interactive escape room (the submarine) and were able to complete it with time to spare! It was a room that everyone was able to be involved in (group of 5)! The clue master helped just enough without giving too many hints! There was also zero wait time before going into our room! AWESOME!!! The staff was great! We were a little hesitant when we found out it was in a mall, but it was actually kept well and well thought out! A group of us tried out the Clock tower room based on the difficulty and had a great time. The location of this escape room is inside the mall next to Macys....very easy to find. Upon entering the location, you will find a very clean and bright lobby with plenty of seating inside and conveniently outside as well. We were greeted by Mary, who was super friendly and helpful. Mary was also our tour guide during our escape room and provided us with all the information that we needed. We found the Clock tower room a great challenge that had various puzzles to solve requiring different approaches. The room/puzzles were clean and organized nicely. If you are looking for an escape room challenge, check out the Clock tower and hopefully Mary will be there to help as she was great. Great time with family but a little pricey. Our group of 8 got through our event in 45 minutes! We did a Western Themed Bank Heist. Compared to other escape rooms I found this one to be slightly more difficult and I was disappointed that some clues had to be given because they were disassociated from the rest of the game and so you needed more info than was given. Seems like that shouldn't happen, but it was rewarding to get through it either way. read more
