Wish I could give 4.5 stars! They built a really nice, relatively large pergola on our back porch, that looks great and worked really well with one exception... it turned out that it doesn't overlap the roof enough (or perhaps it's a bit too high over the roof), so the rain still comes in on the deck in the part against the wall - right where you'd have a couch, it gets completely soaked. The communication was great during the project itself but became really difficult after I've reported the problem (when it rained for the first time). I ended up jury-rigging an extra screen myself out of 1x4s and greenhouse film, took me 3 hours by myself and I'd probably need to replace it every 2-3 years. I think they could have done in much better in like 30 minutes. A little torn on this one, I thing they did a great job in general but I guess next time I'd verify better before calling it done. read more

The work team was Justice and Julio. They did impressive work with apparent love for their job. They delivered high quality workmanship and took care of the details. One of the 3 gates they built turned an ordinary yard corner to an oriental oasis that I enjoy looking at it from inside my house all the time. The most discerning experience, is the communication breakdown of owner Dan, and son Tanner. Think son would tell dad we owe client a hose and BTW Dad, they have another project. Nope...nothing. Meanwhile dad Dan just charges our cc, no contact to ensure all is satisfactory. C'mon Dan, simple customer service. Followup. Pretty sure this company has learned some helpful lessons in business to be successful forward. Better communication for sure, but Trust. Customer trust. We love the fence. Just wish a better ending, and that lies with owner (Dan) and real leadership. Lessons learned by all. They build nice fences. Not our cheapest option, BTW. We were reimbursed for errors. 5/19/21: Please note that I am a current customer of Escapes Fence and Deck.. I am writing a review in real time as the process unfolds to help others get a feel for my experience with the company.  I have contracted for a deck build.  The quote process was very quick and Dan was very responsive when I had additional questions.  I have paid a deposit for the work which is scheduled to start June 21, 2021.  I have an email (5/18/21) and a text (5/19/21) into the company and will let you know of response times to those. 5/19/21:  Dan responded by phone and was able to quickly answer my questions.  We discussed ordering of materials to ensure there are no surprises as things are backed up due to covid supply chain issues. 6/21/21: Today is the big day! Deck build to start. Materials were delivered today but they were not as specified in the contract! I rejected the order. I verified that this was a screw up by the supplier and that Escapes had ordered correct material. So not Escape's fault. 6/21/21: The build crew arrived today as promised and started the work. Evan, the lead, seems very knowledgeable and easy to work with. In brief, STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!! Here are the reasons: I have no idea where the other 5 star reviews came from, but I had an extremely POOR and DISAPPOINTING experience with this company. STAY AWAY from this company unless your only goal is to get the lowest price, and you don't mind wasting endless hours chasing after them for a simple invoice! 1 - They are EXTREMELY UNRESPONSIVE. Before starting the project, they said they would send me an invoice once they received my payment. However, after making my payment, I made 20+ calls/messages/voicemails/emails, and they just disappeared like ghosts. All my calls to this Dan guy went directly into voicemail. I randomly called him using another number, and surprisingly it went through. I realized that he BLOCKED my number! I don't understand why he would go so far as to block my number rather than giving me an invoice!! 2 - They project progress was WAY BELOW EXPECTATION! They are a team of three - laid the post on Tues and disappeared. They claimed they would come back on Thur to finish the fence, but they didn't. Then they showed up on Friday but only worked for 3-4 hours and left again. No progress over the weekend. Not until nthe ext Monday did they barely finished the fence. On contrast, my other side of the fence of exactly the same length only took one guy and 1.5 days, with super high quality. 3 - WORSE FENCE QUALITY compared to other company. I used two different companies for two sides of the fence. Although they claim to be the same type, this company's wood obviously has more holes and dents. There was no header board either. The prices are similar but quality was definitely worse. I'm still chasing after them to get my invoice, but I think I should just give up and stop wasting my time. We had an old fence removed and a new cedar fence and chain link installed. 4 gates, uneven ground, fence on an overgrown green belt, and one on a raised retaining wall, so not the easiest. For months after that, no response to the concern we had about the dozen or so severely cracked boards that were installed (we have a 20+ year old fence in other areas of the house without a single split board in them). He finally came out to fix the issues but didn't let us know when he was here and ended up only replacing one 2x4 and one fencepost cap. When I asked why the others weren't fixed, I was told "wood cracks". I recently had Dan and his team build a new cedar fence (about 100 linear feet) and a huge garden box at my new home. We received 6 bids and Dan wasn't the cheapest- but he had the best vision and seemed super knowledgeable and flexible- so we ultimately selected him for the job. Two of Dan's crew- Justin & Chris- delivered the actual job- and they were nothing but top quality from start to finish. They built a beautiful fence with two gates and an arbor. The fence has an offset board top and it looks outstanding. Justin hand shaped a curved top gate- and it looks excellent. We paid to have them stain the fence as well- which, while not cheap, was absolutely worth it. We have had a number of neighbors comment on how beautiful it looks. The garden box they built for me is excellent as well. It's an L shape- 21 feet long on one side- 11 feet long on the other- and four feet deep all around. It is about 4 feet high. Dan suggested using true 4x4 beams- and it really came out beautifully. Dan stopped by every day to make sure everything looked good- and I honestly can't say enough good things about Justin and Chris. They cleaned up each day after wrapping up- made sure we did a walk through in the morning to make sure I was happy with their plans for the day- and they're simply two really nice guys who truly care about the level of quality of their work. I would be happy to serve as a reference for Dan, Justin, and Chris. I called Dan several times in 2 weeks about the unstable fence they recently built for us. When he did not respond I wrote a poor review. Since then Dan has come to our property twice. He has been easy to communicate with and did what was needed to stabilize the fence. Anyone can be a nice guy when things are going well. I am impressed with Dan's integrity. To his credit, the crew who built our fence no longer works for him. And we have clay soils that require re-bar and/or 9' posts. My complaint is with Yelp. Chad discussed options with me and was able to provide a quote for different styles and woods within 7 days. The quote was fair and reasonable. He took my concerns about my dogs not being able to get under the fence into great consideration. I'm the President of a small, 10 unit condo association, and we recently had about 400 feet of cedar fences replaced with Dan. Down the street from us, there's a nice fence with the Escapes tag on it, so I reached out to Dan when the time came to replace ours. We actually had a fence built only 2 years ago by an association member, but it was falling apart after the first windstorm only a few months in. Dan helped us identify a slew of amateur fence building mistakes: smooth shank nails instead of ring shank, 2x3 white wood railings instead of 2x4s in cedar, and posts not anchored deep enough in cement. He was able to give us a very competitive bid during the slower winter months. Dan got started with us a week ahead of schedule due to a roadblock in another project. Construction was quick, and the foreman, Olvin, was friendly and knowledgeable. This is one contractor that I will definitely contact again if I ever need backyard or front yard design work done; my project included raised garden bed, patio deck, flagstone and a sitting wall. I got several bids for the project, and theirs was not the cheapest or the most expensive, I settled on Escapes Fence because Dan was so easy to talk to during the consultation, he was very forthright in his answers to questions. Dan and his crew were phenomenal, throughout the entire project they never moved on to the next step without consulting with me to make sure we are both on the same page. There was never a sense of rush to complete because they had other projects waiting to get started which told me there was a great sense of pride in the work they do. There was a bit of a snag in selecting the stone veneer for the sitting wall because I have a picture in my mind of what the wall is supposed to look like and none of the samples looked anything like what I had in mind.
