Rotting fence post, only had concrete around the top few inches, then just in the soil below that.
    Tracy M.

Really disappointing. Estimator was friendly, walked the site with me, and wrote up a contract. But the crew wasn't very good and there were several problems. Their office called me a few times, wanting to do less work because putting the fence beside the rockery was going to hard work, and also wanting to flip one section of the fence, so it would be installed backwards/differently than the other pieces, because the nail gun wouldn't fit between neighbor's shed and my fence, and didn't want to have to use a hammer. I expressed my dismay, asking what was the point of walking the job site and writing a contract if they weren't planning to follow it. They did eventually agree and install the fence all facing the same direction. The boards had a LOT of knots...a lot. So there were quickly many holes in the fence where these fell out. But we decided it added "character" and didn't worry about it. Fast forward 5 years and one week (they gave a 5 year warranty) and I notice some of the fence posts are loose, causing fence to wobble in several locations. It's a VERY LARGE cedar fence and 9 of the posts (on 3 sides) are loose/wobbling. I call them to have them look at it. I'm informed it's because it's on the shady side so the cedar posts just rot really fast in the shade. I'm surprised by that claim, firstly. It's EXPECTED that the cedar fence posts would rot out in just 5 years?!? But also, it's actually on 3 sides of the fence, including the side that gets full sunlight. But the guy replies that they're really busy because there was a windstorm and all they can offer is to install metal posts next to the rotting/falling down cedar posts. This would cost me $800. Not impressed. I end up hiring someone else to replace the rotting posts. He is shocked as he excavates/exposes the posts. Says there wasn't nearly enough concrete used to set the posts. That it's only for the first 2" or 3" and then the rest of the buried portion of the post is just in soil. Also, he shows me that the concrete wasn't mixed properly. You can pick up a chunk of it and BREAK IT APART with your hands. He thinks the crew was in a hurry and/or lazy, just dumped dry cement in the holes and then used hose to wet the cement, rather than using a mixer and making the cement properly. I'm attaching photos of the posts having rotted out in just 5 years. This was a very expensive and large fence. And I really wanted to love Premier Fence (I do like that they install a metal frame to help support their gates. That part is nice. But when the cedar posts rot out, the fence tilts and the gate doesn't function well, either). It's possible for a contractor to have a crew who doesn't do things right. But when that contractor doesn't care about making things right/rectifying the situation, then I am not impressed.

Here's an email we received after we made plans with them to fix our fence. Extremely poor company policy.

Salesperson was good. The installer promised to come back to put a handle on inside of gate. That never happened. Fence is ok.

Does not stand behind workmanship. Fence will not hold up. Avoid. Go with literally anyone else.

As someone who pays close attention to detail, I especially appreciated his precision and craftsmanship. I am so glad we went with him, and his pricing was fair. What stood out most was his honesty and thorough approach. We had reached out to several contractors for quotes, but Doru was the only one who took the time to measure our space accurately and fully understand what we wanted. He never pressured us into additional work and instead offered thoughtful guidance and expert recommendations. Despite working quickly, the final result was of quality and what we envisioned. Dec 16, 2020, Hired Mike Howard to repair structural damaged to my home caused by extensive dry rot…read moredamage. This was not a trivial job. The dry rot had compromised a main structural corner beam which supported the second story. The repair would first require building a temporary support to hold up the second story while removing the damaged support beam and replacing all of the dry rot wood. The repair process required first coordinating with a structural engineer to design a repair plan and then with the Snohomish County office to issue a repair permit. Mike was very helpful through the entire process. Mike was confident that he could perform the repair safely and within code without an engineering drawing, but suggested that the drawing would likely be required for the county to issue the permit. I decided to get the engineering drawing and Mike was right. The county flat out said that this repair required an engineering review and drawing. I told Mike I would hire him for the job, but only after I saw and understood what the repair plan entailed. Mike met with the engineer to discuss the repair job and then Mike outlined for me exactly how he would complete the repair. While listening to Mike explain the repair process it was apparent to me that he completely understood the structural design of a home. Having a contractor with this type of experience and knowledge was the only way I would go. Mike was a pleasure to work with. He answered all of my questions with integrity and no BS. I decided to take the 2 days off to watch the work performed. Mike had no issues with this. He discussed the work while it was in process and I always felt comfortable with his decisions and confidence. The work was done in accordance to the engineering drawing and the permit was signed off and closed without any issues. The images show the before and after work, minus the exterior wall board nailed up. I decided to repair the drywall and brickwork myself. Thanks for a wonderful job and experience Mike.

After several quotes from different contractors, we decided to go with Cruz Construction because…read moreJose's quote was the most detailed, he was the best at communicating with us, and his prices were reasonable considering the overhaul we wanted to do. We hired him to renovate our *original 1986* en suite master bathroom and guest bathroom and are SO glad we did. We knew our master en suite would be a challenge because we wanted to add a skylight, a wall-to-wall shower niche, and a tub-in-shower wet area. From the start, you can tell he takes a lot of pride in his work. Jose meticulously planned every detail; how to reframe around any wiring/pipes for the niche so it can support itself, installing a special drain that not only drains from inside the tub, but also surrounding the tub, sloping the marble floor tiles so the water flows to the individual drains, etc. etc. They were able to completely gut out the en suite, update some damaged framing, reposition/restructure a support beam, fully patch up some light water damage the bathroom had caused, and finish the job on time. He even figured out a way to add a skylight despite the complicated roofline we had. He was very informative every step of the way and I learned SO much. Cruz Construction was also one of the few companies that allowed us to supply finishing materials as an effort to stay under a certain budget for both bathrooms. We ordered all of the fixtures, tiles, grout, lights, toilets, shower doors, etc., but had a hard time finding the right vanity for our space, so Jose was able to supply a custom built one that checked all the boxes! He also supplied a very specific LED light strip for our special shower niche and the grey shower pan to match our floor tiles. Just very thoughtful details that made a huge difference. There were a few hiccups as expected with such a big project with so many moving parts, but Jose was great at correcting and following through on every detail. I also need to mention that they worked so CLEAN! They taped off our floors and stairs the very first day with some quality barriers and swept up at the end of every single day. A detail I really appreciated. Special shout-out to Alex, who was at our house pretty much daily for 6 weeks to lay down all the exquisite tile work and more! Including some before and after photos. As you can see, their work is impressive and if you're a decent project manager who wants to design and order you own finishing materials, Cruz Construction is a fantastic team to work with--you won't regret it. I'll be recommending them to anyone looking for a contractor and I'll be calling them if I decide to reno the kitchen one day!

Understanding that I was on a tight budget, Jose helped me brainstorm ways to design the space to reduce costs while keeping quality finishes, like the beautifully tiled fireplace.
