I had a fantastic visit to Espresso News in Boone -- a classic mountain-town coffee shop with real personality and seriously good drinks. At the recommendation of one of the knowledgeable baristas, I ordered the maple cardamom latte, and it absolutely delivered. The maple brought a warm, natural sweetness, while the cardamom added a subtle aromatic spice that made the whole drink feel layered and intentional. It was comforting without being heavy. That paired perfectly with a cinnamon orange white chocolate scone -- bright citrus notes, gentle spice, and just enough sweetness from the white chocolate to tie it all together. The flavors played off the latte beautifully. I finished with an amaretto latte, which was strong on the nose with that classic almond aroma, yet surprisingly smooth and easy on the palate. Bold but balanced -- a great way to end the visit. Great coffee, thoughtful flavor combinations, and baristas who know their craft. Well it started out on a whim after taking an exam early in the morning, I felt I needed something to celebrate with and coffee is that thing! After debating where to go for a long while I remembered hearing that Espresso News was a place to try and what do you know I ended up there. When I walked inside I felt as if I was transported to the 90s coffee house era with how it's designed (just how I like it)! The roasting equipment was next to the entrance which was cool to look at and even more interesting was the fact that they were using a LaCimbali like literally one of the best espresso machines on the market! While visiting Boone we needed coffee. A quick internet search revealed Espresso News was just steps away from the antique shop we had just finished exploring. Clearly it was meant to be. My almond milk latte was topped with some pretty impressive foam art and was delicious, but could have been a little hotter. My co-conspirator enjoyed her chai latte which was also beautifully adorned with a foamy flower. In addition to typical espresso bar offerings (coffees, espresso drinks, teas) they offer a variety of pastries including some vegan options. Pricing is pretty reasonable for a local coffee place in a retreat/skiing/mountain town, but I do wish they didn't charge extra for plant based milks. I always feel a little discriminated against when charged more for trying to make healthy nutritional and environmental choices. read more

Espresso News is where it's at! A cute coffee shop tucked into a back street in downtown Boone, NC, with great coffee and pastries. And the prices are a bit lower than the average coffee shops I frequent! I needed to get some work done while visiting town, and was recommended to come here. It seems like a lot of students do the same because the tables were mostly full, but I managed to snag one. There was a small line and a short wait to get my drink, but it moved somewhat quickly. The staff were friendly and obviously working hard to get orders out. The lavender + almond milk latte I ordered was super tasty (bonus points for having a half caf option)! I decided to stop in the next day as well to try out the chai latte I'd heard lots of good things about--it was a good chai latte but I do think I prefer the coffee. I also tried a vegan apple pecan muffin which was pretty good--I have a feeling some of the other pastries might have been better, but I wanted to choose something that would compliment the chai. My favorite place in Boone. I pass Enews on the way to class and have made myself a regular. To tourists: this isn't a Starbucks where you're going to get you're sugar milk... and enews is quite urban and not as gentrified as many other places in town. If you want real coffee/espresso, this is the absolute best place you can go. I highly recommend the cheddar scones and the banana bread. They will change your life. The employees have gotten to know me, and when I walk in they will start making my order for me. If you plan to dine in, I highly recommend asking for a cup for here instead of getting a plastic cup to go. It's an easy way to be sustainable. The overall aesthetic is very Boone-esque. Just go here. E-News is a staple in Boone, right in the heart of downtown and in perfect access for App State students and employees. The lines can be rather long and wait slow (especially during pandemic), and sometimes ordering can be overwhelming (for me anyway) due to all of the options, but they make some damn good coffee and drinks. I have friends who would come here literally every single morning, rain or shine. Durning non-COVID times, the place seats several on their two stories. This little coffee shop in Boone is adorable! It's a little hard to find as it's behind the busy street and kind looks like an a dead end area but it's okay your GPS is not fooling you!! My Bf and I came here to try there cappuccino and their drip coffee! Both were delicious and the drip coffee was only 1.75 which I though was SUPER cheap for a really hipster coffee shop!! I was very impressed by the service and over all genuine attitude I received from the place. I went on Easter so it was a little empty but I heard on most days it's really packed. There's not much parking but we were able to snag a spot on the street since it was still early. I ordered a coffee (medium Bali) which I liked though not being a coffee person, can't say too much about that. They had a lot of vegan pastry offerings if that's your thing. What I expect for east coast coffee. Decided to try local instead of Starbucks near our hotel. I ordered an iced white chocolate americano with cream on top. Can't get much simpler than that. But then he used hot water added into the americano instead of just cool tap water before adding the coffee shots and added cream in the hot water. Then very little ice on top which melted in no time at all. And there was no white chocolate noticeable. It was basically watered down coffee with some cream in it.
