Wow, I am so glad to have met Cathy, I found her shop through Yelp and I went in with confidence and was rewarded beautifully! I showed Cathy a few pictures on my cell phone, and she made my hair look better than I thought possible. She is patient, calm, professional, so nice and pleasant; the whole atmosphere in Cathy's shop is relaxed and beautiful. I got a lot of compliments on my hair all day! I love it, I'm so grateful to Cathy. I'll be coming back to Cathy regularly and I will recommend her to all my friends. Cathy is my new hairdresser. You know when you find a good one, keep her! Essentiallyhair sent me the wrong item (the base I received was HALF the size of the advertised base that I ordered) then they expected me to pay to return it in spite of the fact that it was their error, or accept a fraction of the cost (20% refund) to keep an item I can't use. I sent them PROOF of their error, showing both what they advertise on their own website and photos of what I actually received, then they stopped communicating altogether. I even offered to take a loss and accept an 80% refund and donate the hair topper to settle the matter quickly. Nothing. I was very patient, but I now truly believe this is a scam operation where they send you cheap goods at a marked up price, even if it's not what you want, and you take a loss either way while they profit. And although they tell you they are based in LA, the product ships from China. False and misleading advertising. Horrendous customer service. The hair topper itself is okay for the price - just not useful at all for me as the base is not big enough to cover all the areas where my hair is thinning. A horrible experience. Never again! I urge caution if you think you are getting a bargain because you may not even get what you purchased and will pay again to resolve the issue. BEWARE!! read more

Had my first experience with this salon today. The atmosphere is clean and elegantly decorated. Cathy is professional and knowledgeable, but friendly and warm. I got color and highlights, and she took the time to ask me what I wanted, and gave me exactly that. Beautiful color, excellent blowout, and wonderful conversation. What a delightful experience. If you like noisy, bustling salons, this isn't the place for you. However, if a quiet, personalized experience is more your speed, this is your salon. First, those who know Essentially Hair and Cathy's excellent cuts should be aware that she is in the same building but down the walkway on the west side. Her cozy shop is now in the heart of downtown and tucked in the quiet Northwest corner of the building at Laurel and Franklin. Cant say enough good about her service and mellow attitude. Cathy is still the only person I will let touch my hair! She moved to the side of the building which is way more suited to the business. The new location is quaint and adorable, it's a small salon you might expect to see at a Four Seasons Resort just enough space to not feel claustrophobic and not so much that you worry about a salon full of people that will overhear the intimate conversations that are had when one is relaxed and feeling content. When I moved to Ft. Bragg/Mendocino almost two years ago, my biggest concern was whether I'd be able to find spot-on hairdresser here to replace the guy I'd been seeing for years in San Francisco (whom I then considered tops). Cathy at Essentially Hair actually took my cut and color to a higher level. Her service is as good as it gets in that, 1) She HEARS everything you say about what you want and possesses the talent to execute it; 2) The salon ambience is bliss; and 3) She's just a very cool lady who is a professional to the core. I am super critical and have difficult hair. Throughout my whole life it has been a challenge for me to find someone who i could trust and felt comfortable returning to. When I moved here from San Francisco i didn't know what i was going to find, and then there she was. I can't say enough good things about Kathy and the service at Essentially Hair. She is amazing!
