Great little hidden gem. I got a gift certificate from a friend to Essentials Spa of Sarasota for a 1 hour massage. The place is literally hidden and looks small from outside,has a small waiting area with a friendly receptionist,but it actually has a dozen of private massage rooms. The massage therapist Christine,was welcoming,knowledgeable and accommodating. The massage was very nice,she focused on the issues that I mentioned her before the session. This is unbelieving! I scheduled a massage on a rainny day and as soon as I realized that my husband got my car and I would have to get an Uber and be late, I called Essentials Massage and communicate I am running late but I'll be there. When I was in the Uber and almost got to the Essential Massage, I got a call that the masseur did not want to wait for me and just left because he was supposed to be somewhere... So I spent the money on Uber, I got wet from the rain and they want to charge me a $30 cancelletion fee because I was more than 15 minutes late, plus I have to find another place to have a massage for my horrible neck pain. First of all the employees take care of their clients above and beyond good service. Please take care of them! By that I mean tip them for their worth not for the percentage of what you paid. Note that the website specifically says that, when booking online, it's not necessary to select which type of massage because all their massage therapists are trained in all offered modalities. Wow I knew I had found a great, affordable and legitimate massage place on my first visit to Essentials, but wow, my other two visits were out of the park good! My first visit was with Jason who did a therapeutic massage because I was in a bit of pain with my back. He worked his magic and had me feeling so much better after my first visit. I then rebooked for a second visit with Joseph and decided on a deep tissue to really try to loosen up my tight back muscles. Joseph, I found to be an extremely excellent massuer who knew exactly how to take the work that Jason had started and continue to work his massage magic to help me find needed relief. Besides being an excellent masseuse, the conversation and feeling of being totally relaxed was an added bonus. With an impending plane trip coming up in the next few days I decided to book yet another massage with Joseph to ensure a pain free flight home. Once again I was not disappointed. Joseph remembered my issue and continued the deep therapy from the other day and even incorporated some light stretching to help me out. Once again great conversation and another fantastic massage from him. What I truly enjoyed was the comfort level I felt with each massuer here. Quite honestly I plan on making every trip to Sarasota to now include a visit to Essentials to experience more great massages from these two talented men. *long review!* I've been to Essentials Massage before (I think in Dec. of 2018) as my Dad lives in Sarasota and at the time I was living in Detroit, MI. I was looking for a massage and Essentials prices were the best. I thought there must be something a miss. How could the prices be what they were? Were they students? Was it a shady spa? I soon found out that was NOT the case at all. I was so happy and relaxed that I booked another one before leaving. I love the location of the spa. Every single staff member makes you feel welcome from the moment you step thru the door. Now it is May 2020 and we're in the middle of a global pandemic. I now live in Fayetteville, NC and I cannot get a massage. In fact it's been months. :( sad I know. I was coming to visit my Dad and since I subscribe to Essentials email blast I knew they were open! Yay! I was excited. So I booked a 90 min for the day after I arrived to town. The lady who did my massage previously is no longer there. So I randomly selected Joseph Kutskill . Boy was I glad I selected him. He was perfect and made me relax in seconds. His touch was perfect as well. I'm more of a light to medium pressure. Sometimes massage therapists apply too much pressure. Nope not Joseph. The session was so great I've already seen him 3 times and I've booked another session for the day before I leave town. I am so happy that I found Essentials Massage and this is my #1 go to for when I'm in town. *yes due to Coronavirus things are a little different but honestly it's not as bad as one would think. You text when you arrive and let them know what car you're in. Your therapist gets you, and they wear a mask the entire session. They do require you wear a mask during the session. I thought it would be weird but it really wasn't. And honestly I would do whatever new policy they had in place because it is for the safety of the staff and myself. I recently purchased a Groupon for a couples massage here for my husband and I. We were in Sarasota for our 1 year anniversary so we found this local spot! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The waiting area was very calming and peaceful. We did have to wait a little longer than we would have hoped, but it was well worth it. We were put in a room together and both of our staff members were amazing! The massage even included an exfoliating scrub on our backs. We have had many massages in the past, but never had this before! It was a great addition! We were also offered a glass of wine afterwards (based on the Groupon we purchased).
