Inside, it is modern and has a huge selection of brands including Burger King, Leon, KFC, Nando's, Pizza Express and Starbucks, it even has a Sourced Market, it's the only location outside of London as it stands, sadly it wasn't open on my first visit as it was Christmas Day, but the selection normally is incredible, selling fresh, local produce giving publicity to great Yorkshire brands. There is also a Ramada hotel which is also pretty new and looks okay an ideal location if you are looking to hit the road while taking a break from your driving hours for truckers, but the hotel is nice enough to appeal to other markets too. The main seating area is also so welcoming and comfortable, there are TV screens, one was showing football highlights of Leeds United versus Derby County (The game which Leeds won, obviously), and another screen was showing the news. There was a selection of comfortable seating, plug sockets and free wi-fi too. The parking area was huge, you can get three hours of free parking which is ample for a break from driving, or even if you want to spend some time here to relax, get some lunch and walk around the stunning Skelton Lake. There is also plenty of outdoor seating, with another communal area outside while many of the restaurants such as Pizza Express, also have an outdoor area. If you're looking for a shop, they have a SPAR as part of the Texaco garage which also has a coffee machine if you're in a rush, but there is also a Sourced Market inside the main building selling great produce and essentials. Another thing which impressed me wasn't just the selection of brands, comfort or how modern the service station was, from the outside (it looked like a football stadium with solar panels and grass on the roof), but also the friendly staff who didn't let working on Christmas get her down, she still seemed friendly and willing to ensure the customer's experience was a pleasant one, by making sure the experience here was a safe and enjoyable one. The main flaw of the services was that many brands haven't opened back up again yet, but with COVID-19 still a growing issue in the UK and Leeds being in Tier 3, it is understandable as there's no point opening for very little customers, so I can't mark them down for that. It is also a shame it's hard to get in touch with anyone at the service station directly, the only phone number I could find was for the Texaco garage, hotel and sourced market, or for the head office where Extra MSA is based, which is only open at working hours. Overall, this is a service station done differently and done better too. It felt like going on holiday!

But it is adequate in terms of snacks, a little shopping, clean restrooms and the rest. The best eats here are in the form of the Cornish Pasty stand just outside the entrance, go for the lamb or (second choice) the traditional Pasty!

BP Bridgeman Place is in Bolton town centre, a short walk away from the bus/rail station. They have…read morea small shop which as a Subway inside, and a coffee machine as well as Amazon Lockers, so the overall facilities is OK. Petrol is a tad expensive here, pretty common for BP, I did find the petrol prices weren't as bold and obvious and the sign outside was much smaller than most other petrol stations, I didn't notice it at first anyway. Prices are also high in the outlets and the store. I wasn't impressed with the service either, a man who worked in the service station seemed to come over and shout over me in a foreign language to talk to the Subway staff, I get they're bored as it was a quiet day but they seemed to wait until a customer was actually there in order to shout, and it left me feeling rather uncomfortable. There wasn't much of a parking area for people who just wanted to go to Subway or go into the store without getting petrol, without feeling like getting in the way. I do find it strange that on the websites of businesses located here including Subway and Amazon Locker, they call it "Shell Bridgeman Place", my only guess is that this was recently a Shell garage before being converted over to BP, it still was pretty confusing as I was expecting a Shell Garage here. 3* - OK, the location in the town centre is handy, as well as housing a poor Subway branch but still one of the few non-halal stores in the area.

Alkrington Service Station is a nice service station which is around two years old now, with…read moreApplegreen taking over the former BP unit at the bottom of Rochdale Road at the start of 2019, I would say they have made improvements in terms of facilities offered, so it is an upgraded petrol/fuel station in this location. While I prefer the BP look overall, which I feel generally looks much bolder and modern than the new look they seem to have adapted, which for me seems like they could do with a further refurb, I am pleased to see Amazon Lockers here now, where you can have parcels delivered and access them 24/7, as well as a Costa Coffee machine inside the building. Petrol prices are higher than Tesco/ASDA etc, but not by much overall, so petrol is a reasonable price, but still, there are cheaper options nearby. 3* - OK, an improvement in terms of pricing/facilities on the old BP which was located here, but still they could do more to compare with others.

Manchester Road Services is owned/operated by Euro Garages, it is located on Manchester Road, right…read moreoutside the bus stop on the 8/37/524 routes providing bus services into the town centre. The concourse is clean and looks good, it looks very similar from the outside in comparison to Burnley Barracks Services, also operated by Euro Garages so I presume this is the new format they are looking for with their service stations. Part of the main concourse felt like a construction site, it was bare and unclean. It wasn't motorway service station level, but there were a few brands here including a Sainsbury's To Go, Greggs and a Starbucks Coffee machine. They also have one of the UK's only Cinnabon locations and a new drive-thru McDonald's, the latter is brand new and opened in March 2021. The petrol station is provided by Shell, again this is typical Shell prices, the same as the Shell Petrol Station just meters away. They have toilets inside the main terminal which is friendly, service seems a little impersonal and the prices are a little high, there's little excuse for paying their grocery prices given the fact there's multiple supermarkets just down the road (Aldi, Lidl and Asda), and even more a mile or so away if you head into Bolton town centre (Sainsbury's and Morrisons). 3* - Not too bad, I would have liked to see a Subway or Starbucks location here, but I presume they decided against that as both brands have stores nearby on Manchester Road, I do feel access as a pedestrian from the main road could be better without having to walk onto the forecourt (moving cars = dangerous!)
