The service was ok (my wife's drink order was forgotten), but the food was disappointing: we ordered the deep fried Camembert (which we had at Gulliver Restaurante and loved), but here it was served barely lukewarm, and lacked the melty texture that makes it so good; the squid rings were completely unseasoned. My wife also had the Provençal octopus, but it also lacked seasoning. I had the "peixe Gulliver" (fish Gulliver), which I assumed would be their signature dish. Firstly, they serve the main courses on very large square plates, so they have a lot of blank space to fill. On one side of the plate, they place a shrimp/rice/tomato "risotto", but the shrimp were uncleaned and the rice was a bit overcooked; the fish (I was told was grouper), was a sad, small, thin overcooked, unseasoned piece of fish--a complete disappointment. To top it all off, I had gum stuck under my table like a cheap diner. The price, while not heart-stoppingly high, was too high considering the quality of the items. We really enjoyed Gulliver Restaurante, and I really wanted to like Gulliver Mar Restaurante too, but I cannot say that I did.

I think I only wanted to like this place, but the truth is, I really don't. What is nice is the entrance: you enter either descending down a winding stair through a tropical garden or you can a funicular (which is as cute as heck). The restaurant itself is just a rectangular box, that when full is as noisy as a cafeteria. They have 3 tables outside, and this was the first time that we sat here and if you must eat here, I recommend that you choose to sit outside. The food is another problem for me. The plating is very amateurish, and most plates look similar. All of their fish offerings are breaded and fried, which, to me shows a lack of creativity and is rather boring. I had their jambalaya, which was without flavor. Service is mediocre and confused. After receiving our appetizers, another waiter came to deliver the appetizers again. For the prices they charge, the food and service are not commensurate.

My Brazilian friends took me to this place because I wanted some meat. We ordered Casquinho de Caranguejo, which is crab head shells filled with creamy stuff and crab meat, that was good. And we had one order of Filé Trifasisaco, a steak, for four people. This dish comes with two side-dishes that has some rice and fried bananas. The steak was tender and flavorful. For desert we had Top Hat, which is warm bananas topped with cinnamon and covered with sugar. We also had the caja juice, I have no idea what kind of fruit caja is but the juice is really tasty. The service was good and so was the ambience. Overall, I think this is an excellent restaurant and if you are fresh off the boat in Brazil, you might just like this place.
