Our recently purchased 4-year-old home here in Merrill Ranch was in need of a substantial landscaping makeover. We invested the time to interview a number of landscaping contractors...curious about not only the cost of such an undertaking... but also their approach, their skill/technical level, their attention to detail and their ability to listen to what we were seeking to create. My husband and I were looking for a particular ambiance, something soft and welcoming, warm and inviting, no hard edges. We wanted something where friends and family could relax and be comfortable, a sort of "Zen" vibe. Said interviews revealed that there was something unique about Esteban Rodriguez of Esteban Land Design and his modus operandi to the whole process that caught our attention and intrigued us enough to assign Esteban LD the job. Our vision would ultimately come to include improved grading to move rainwater away from the foundation, pavers (patio/extended patio, a curved pathway from front to back, extended width to the driveway, "steps" in the front yard to highlight /accent our entry, and an interior courtyard), a pergola, a 3-zone irrigation system (plants/trees/potted plants), boulders, electrical runs for lighting and our fountain, and new plants and trees. Living in an HOA community requires the necessary paperwork and documentation submission. Esteban went a step above: he actually met with the HOA gentleman-in-charge, introducing himself, his company and what all he could do to enhance our property. And then there is Becca. I would describe Becca as a little bit of magic behind the scenes. Her due diligence to the paperwork and detailed documentation insured that our HOA approval came through without much of a hitch. Her warm, genuine care and concern made us feel like ours was the only project on Esteban Land Design's agenda. From start to finish, our project took about 4 weeks. Every morning like clockwork Esteban's team of hardworking men showed up on time and immediately went to work. Marvin, Hendry, Carlos, Gesles, Lazaro and Lorenzo ( we do hope we didn't miss anyone) worked with such efficiency. It was amazing watching them go about their responsibilities. Cross training was very evident; teamwork was VERY obvious. A purposeful work ethic was demonstrated each and every day. A level of craftmanship and attention to detail...that are nothing short of remarkable these days, was not lost on us. Esteban showed every day, arriving about an hour after his crew. He'd ring the bell or knock on the back door. Together we'd walk the project. He'd explain the goals for the day, inquire as to my approval of various aspects. He'd want to know what questions we might have, keenly eager to ensure that we were pleased with the work, the workmanship and the progress. He was always interested in knowing if he was achieving the "look" that we imagined. And if ever there was something from our "vision" that might prove difficult to deliver on, he would eagerly provide an acceptable solution that worked through or around the problem, leaving our imagined intent intact. The project is complete and we are now adding our personal touches of décor and ornamentation. As we look upon our yards, we could not be more pleased with what we see. We know without the slightest shadow of a doubt that we chose the right company to do the work. If anyone needs to get their backyard fully landscaped, we finally got around to doing ours in the Fall, and used Esteban and the crew! We got drip lines, travertine border, pad and patio, all the plants and our side yard paver path/trash pad with driveway extended partially. Any way of giving Esteban and his crew 6 starts? They were wonderful. We were referred to Esteban by a neighbor. A call to Becca in the office and within a few hours Esteban was at the house evaluating our current (failing) irrigation system. He was professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. If it was for work conflicts his crew would have been there with in the next day or two. Five days later (as we requested) his crew was at the house bright and early. Within 2 days they completed the entire installation of an upgraded irrigation system. The whole crew was super nice, outstanding work, never seemed bothered if we asked questions and EXCEEDED our expectations. They even noticed planter boxes down a walk way and included them on the new system - something I hadn't thought was an option. Becca, as the office coordinator, was outstanding as well. Esteban and his team repaired , upgraded and installed a complete irrigation system in my yard in late 2024 and did a very great job., Come May 2025, suddenly it quit working! Esteban came out quickly to review the problem. What he found is that a plumber fixing an unrelated problem had inadvertently turned off the yard water supply. Esteban Land Design has done it again! I am amazed at the integrity of this company. We hired Esteban last December to create our gorgeous backyard landscape. With 40 years of experience, we knew we were in good hands. The project was performed with engineering expertise and beauty that exceeded our expectations! Esteban, the owner and his office manager, Becca, worked tirelessly to ensure everything was done to perfection. We were thrilled with the results! Sadly though, one of the ficus trees didn't make it. We understand these things can happen due to extreme weather conditions. Becca assured me they would take care of us once the tree planting season began, despite the time that had passed since the original planting. Well, it's that time of year, and they scheduled the replacement of the tree this past week. When the tree arrived, I was in awe because the tree was so big, beautiful, and healthy! It was obvious the replacement tree was much more expensive than the original tree that was planted. Who does that these days? People with big hearts. I am a "snowbird". I have delt with Esteban Land Design for the last couple years for various issues with my landscape watering system. His crew has spent a couple Fall days cleaning up my yard after I had come back after being gone for 6 months & made piles of cuttings which they removed & blew my yard clean of 6 months of leaves, debris & my cuttings. Last summer, while I was gone, I had several 3/4" water feeder breaks in which Esteban, at my request, sent out someone to find the breaks & repair them. His pricing was very reasonable for both the yard cleanup & as well for the emergency leak repairs to the watering system. The watering system was installed by another contractor in 2012. This late Winter & early Spring (2024), I experienced more issues with my existing watering system. Several additional breaks occurred. I became very concerned that leaving this summer (2024) was going to result in severe damage to my watering system resulting in the loss of much of the established plants/trees/bushes I called Esteban & asked him to come over & give me a price to replace the entire system, to include the removal of any of the old 3/4 " tubing as needed, the addition of 2 new commercial water valves & a new commercial grade control box. In addition, I wanted the entire new system to be PVC--not the 3/4" tubing that had given me so much trouble over the past 12 years. His crew came to my home on a Wednesday morning early (5:30am) & the entire job was completed by Friday @ Noon! Also, In that time period, they did some major trimming of 4 tall Mexican palms & 2 Pineapple palms & disposed of all the cuttings. I am very impressed with the crew's quality of work, their attention to detail & the way my yards looked after their work had been completed: as if nothing had happened! This installation should last many years longer & give me trouble free irrigation for a couple decades---thanks Esteban Land Design!! read more

I am incredibly pleased with the work Esteban and his crew have done in my yard. They replaced the old drip system, contoured the land to push water away from the house, cut back and removed overly mature plants, redesigned a rock formation into something much more aesthetically pleasing, designed paver pathways and planted new low maintenance species. I bought a new house in Gilbert, AZ and hired Esteban for landscaping and paver installation. He has excellent knowledge about landscape design, plants, irrigation, and pavers. He did a great job about drainage of water during rainy season. He always has customers' interests as priority and communicates well with the customer. I wish so much I could give him less than one star. He does not deserve one star. I hired Esteban through home advisor. He showed up late. HOURS LATE. Talked the big talk. Gave me a quote and then said he would return to do the job. I made arrangements to be home that day and he showed up almost 5 hours late!! He had another guy with him who spoke zero English who he left to do the job. Communication was impossible so I had no idea if this person knew what was going on or anything. Skip 1 month ahead and I noticed that the bushes in the front were dying so I set it to water them more thinking it was the heat. Still dying another month later so today I did a test and the bubblers in the front do not work. As I was testing the system I noticed that two other issues that I paid to be fixed, were not, so I called him today, explained what was going on, and he told me he would be there at 11. I moved plans around to accommodate this time and he didn't even show up. Avoid this company!! read more

I received a quote on a timely basis and authorized Esteban to proceed with the work since the price quoted was very reasonable. The work began on the date promised and was completed in a timely matter. The quality of the work was excellent and we are very satisfied with the overall effort. We did have some follow-up work that was required and Esteban was very responsive in making the changes on a timely basis. I found the company to be very professional and reasonable in their costs. Poor service and overpriced for the work that was actually done

I moved into my house earlier this year and I had a backyard full of weeds and basically a dead sprinkler and drip system. Esteban's Land Design installed new grass with a border, a new sprinkler and drip system, extended my patio and added new rock. My backyard can now be enjoyed especially with the nicer weather. Submitted a request on HomeAdvisor for landscape architects to contact me. Esteban Designs was the first to contact me (like withing 5 minutes of hitting submit). We made an appointment for 16:00 - it is now 19:30 and he never shoed nor did he call. I'm always skeptical of companies that can't even call you to cancel/delay much less keep an appointment. read more

Received referral to Esteban Landscaping through Home Advisor. Made an appointment to give estimate. Showed up as scheduled gave ideas on what could be done. Talked about hard working employees, amazing work etc.. Seemed to have it together. Made a second appointment to go over estimate. Did not show up, after calling office he finally came and complained about his truck service the entire time. We asked for a plan drawing for HOA he said he would get to us and left. No real conversation about job. Very preoccupied with truck. No plans after 2 weeks call office told he would work on over weekend. Following Wednesday office emailed plan. Sent to HOA waited 2 more weeks finally approved. Called office she said they would send out contract. Nothing ever comes. We are now 2 months into this project and gotten no where. Finally, just cancelled work. Too many red flags. maybe does good work, but very difficult to work with. We have wasted 2 months with this company. i do not recommend them, to many issues. read more

Esterban came out and gave an estimate to replace 2 dripper control valves, filters, and pressure regulators. His employee showed up aheaded of schedule the next day (Wednesday). After work was conpleted spoke with him on the phone, asked how the work was. Then asked how I was paying. I said by check. He asked me to make the check out to Erica Arroyo. His employee never offered a reciept. I texted him and spoke with him twice to get one. Both times he said he would bring it by. Dont pay until you have a reciept in hand. read more

Was suggested through Home Advisor for a driveway paver project. We spoke on 6/15 and scheduled a quote appt for 6/16 at 4pm. 5:00pm comes around, no call, no show. Called him to see what the story was, he had no idea who I was or that he even had a scheduled appt. He asked if he could call me back, I told him not to bother as we will not be using his services, to which he relied "ok." and hung up.
