This was my first time trying this salon and I LOVED IT! I have tried many salons and my hair has always smelled like the burnt flat iron and my hair would always feel FRIED! But at E'tae salon the shampoo and conditioner made my hair feel fresh, super clean, and soft. And now my hair is super flowy, bouncy, and smells soooo good! The overall salon is small and quiet which was a major plus. It's a little pricey but totally worth the price! read more

I haven't been to this salon since it was on wadsworth ave but I have bought the hair products since then and they're trash ! They hype up these products like they do something for your hair and they don't do sh.t ! The products are costly and you can buy any 5 dollar shampoo and conditioner and your hair will turn out better than if you use etrash products smh . When you try to get refunds no one contacts you back and the founder/owner is rude and ghetto as hell. read more

I am very pleased with this salon. So pleased I wanted to do a follow up review since my last one. Lemme just say this: THE BOMB! Since making ETAE my regular salon, my hair is doing much better. Thicker, longer, just flowing in the wind gorgeous. I've been visiting once a month for a wash and a press out with the flat iron. I drove all the way from Baltimore to go here and it was worth it! Everyone in the salon was very friendly and welcoming. I got a Carmel treatment, wash, blow dry, curl, and trim. The ladies who washed and blow dried my hair did an amazing job. My stylist Quan did an excellent job on my hair also, it was shiny, bouncy, and full. I haven't been to their salon since I'm in Florida but I have tried their product called carmel. It is the best thing made next to sliced bread. Its all natural. I heard about it from a hair forum I joined. Basically, it was time for a touch up and I decided to buy the carmel and also a box of relaxer (just in case carmel didn't work). I put carmel in, rinsed with a sulfur free shampoo, styled like I do, and my hair looked as if I touched it up. Carmel is not a relaxer, its a deep conditioner that makes your hair more manageable and super soft. Because of it, I was able to stretch the time for a touch up and that relaxer I bought has been sitting under the sink for the last month and a half. I've told plenty of people about it and the three who have tried it loved it. You can order it from their website, just google their name. read more

STAY AWAY! DEFECTIVE BATCHES!!! COMPANY TAKES MONEY AND REFUSES TO OFFER A REFUND FOR THEIR DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS! DO NOT PURCHASE! After opening a received order placed during the Black-Friday Sale, I was concerned and scared of the contents in the conditioner bottle as it was NOT conditioner! The texture and color were quite similar to Elmers Glue and obviously NOT conditioner. I contacted E'tae the next morning, left multiple message followed by emails with no response. Determined to find a solution, I called and emailed again and finally spoke with an associate by the name of Daya who claimed to be concerned but took no action to rectify the problem or find a solution. I was forced to escalate the issue to Management and which lead to E'Tae emailing a return label in exchange for the defected products. I complied, returned the 2 conditioners and received a follow up call from Daya once again who confirmed my initial concern by stating the content in the bottle is NOT conditioner and they will not offer ANY SOLUTION WHATSOEVER. I was so appalled, confused and concerned all at once! I then requested to speak with a Manager and was transferred to Ashley the Operations Manager in Philadelphia who then reiterated what was previously mentioned by Daya: The company cannot confirm the contents of the bottle and since no one else has yet to complain, there is nothing they can do. This is disgusting in so many ways: 1. What are they sending out? What was in the bottle from an order I placed DIRECTLY with E'Tae in November 2017? 2. How does this company operate business as they accepted my payment, shipped "some concoction" to my home, requested a return of the items which was done and then fails to issue an exchange or a refund????? 3. Lack of customer service and lack of professionalism. After I PAID for my items, I had to call and email numerous times before getting a response. I played phone tag, complied with their request to send back the items to be informed that they refuse to offer a solution. Fortunately/unfortunately, this was not my first order from E'Tae as I was a repeat customer! I followed E'TAE salon on Facebook and Instagram for about a year before actually booking an appointment. I was definitely skeptical at first. But I went in on a Thursday, and had the Caramel treatment, along with a shampoo, condition, blow dry and flat iron. Also, I ended up getting my ends trimmed. I've read complaints about not being able to schedule with a specific stylist. I can see why many people might not like that. However, as someone who only occasionally goes to the salon, I actually like it. And quite frankly, in the time that I spent in the salon, I didn't see any difference in the work of any of the stylist. They were all pretty good. I liked the fact that it was nice and clean in there, I didn't have to worry about stylists eating behind me between doing my hair since there was a break room. There was good, non-offensive music and TV. Plenty of complimentary refreshments and WiFi. I also like that hair was promptly swept from the floor. I don't want to "sit in" someone else's hair. I always hate when salons do that. I do...have to agree that on the day of my visit...most of the stylists and assistants in the salon were wearing caps and/or their hair was not done. That's...not really a good look in my opinion. Also, it rained (poured really) on my visit and since this was forecast, I had a silk scarf in my bag and my stylist wrapped my hair for me. I didn't particularly care for the fact that she used her hands to wrap my hair instead of a comb, but...it was an extremely minor offense. I liked the fact that the girl who shampooed my hair was knowledgeable and was able to give me some really good advice regarding my hair. She shampooed it so good without digging the mess out of my scalp. Because of the whole "heat damage" concern that comes with ANY flat iron experience, I specifically waited until after washing my hair to make sure that my curls snapped back before posting this review. They snapped right back! I actually ordered the products for use at home and I had an amazing experience! It was the quickest detangle I've had in a LOOOONG time! I love the way my hair looks after this salon experience. I have been natural for only a year and throughout that year I only get my hair straightened every three months to get my ends trimmed. Over the past year I have hated every salon I've been to. This is the first salon where I walked out really satisfied. They were not scissor happy, they styled my hair beautifully. I did not get the caramel treatment I only got a wash and trim it came up to $65. Overall it was a good experience and I will be back. read more

I set a appointment at the salon and had ok experience. Beautiful place as in the interior design, the staff was decent, I also did not like that they had scarves on their head. I think the employees should show off what the product can do. The main product smelt great and the service was fast 2.5 hours. Which was a plus because I hate being in the salon all day. When the girl started doing my hair (Sierra) she was not very inviting made me feel uncomfortable. However everybody is allowed to have a bad day or a off day so I brushed it off. After my hair was done with it did not look shiny,bounce and glamorous like the videos they constantly post on instagram. This was very disappointing. I feel like their product is not for untrained hair or 4c hair. I think they should disclose this on their website or social media. By going to the salon I thought I would get the best result but sadly not. As the week gone on my hair started puffying up and the next week I went to another salon to get my hair relaxed. Overall I do not wish to come back because I'm a college student so money is limited. read more

It pains me to write this. Seriously. I had such high expectations and wanted to love this place. I really did. I wanted to proudly support a black woman and her business. But honestly, I just can't. I'll buy her products but her salon can't get my business. I scheduled a 12:30 appointment for today and got here at 12. I had things to do and needed to be done in a reasonable time. Coming in midday on a Friday shouldn't be that hard to get it done right? WRONG. To give the short of it all, I waited until 1:30 and had to reschedule for 7pm and left because NO ONE EVEN WASHED MY HAIR. It wasn't that busy! STILL giving the benefit of doubt, I arrived at 6:30. I left at 9:30. Know why? Bc the owner's family came in and as I sat waiting for someone to curl my washed and blow dried hair for another 45 min, she had her cousin washed and blow dried and then asked her into her chair as she made me wait for the other stylist. Don't get me wrong, Quan did an AMAZING job but if you come in to work, don't pick and choose. Apparently the owner comes in sporadically to work, but it's seems it's strategically arranged so she is there for specific clients. As someone that brags about loving to style, it throws me that she's so picky about it. I get you have specific client but it looks really bad when I've been there since 6:30 and they walk in at 8 and get finished before I do. As far as the styling of Quan, I give 5 stars. She's really good. And she's sweet too. But the lack of professionalism gives it two. I won't be back. read more

I just want to start by saying I've been using Etae products for years and I do love the Carmel treatment. I visited the salon because I wanted my hair done, mind you I haven't worn my natural hair out in 2 years. Kirby was my stylist, when I sat in her chair she proceeded to do my hair. She complained almost the entire way through that her flat irons were broken and not working properly. When my hair was done it looked terrible! This salon visit was about $80, the very next day I had to wear my hair in a ponytail. I contacted the owner Keisha to tell her about my experience and the first thing he said to me was "Kirby is a good stylist and I don't know the condition of your hair". Not one time did she apologize for my bad experience nor did she offer to take a look at my hair and maybe redo it. I will not be returing to her salon because of the unprofessional atmosphere and the way I was treated. read more

My visit to E'Tae salon was an okay experience. The salon is very neat & clean. The receptionist was very polite and quick to getting my hair shampooed. I was offered free refreshments and wi-fi. The products smell good & left my hair feeling soft. My only complaints are that I had too many different people (total of 4) shampooing & blowdrying my hair. Whoever did the blow drying was rough and kept raking a comb through my hair. Even though my hair stylist did my hair nice, she didn't greet me or ask me what I wanted done with my hair. I had to tell her before she just started doing whatever she wanted to do. Overall my experience was okay. I really value great customer service. I most likely won't be revisting. read more

I heard good reviews about this salon so I made a last minute appointment, then I read the reviews on yelp, which were mostly bad and started to get nervous but decided to go ahead with my salon visit despite my misgivings. I must say I am very please with the outcome. At first i thought that i was being ignored for other customers but realized i was wrong and the customers who were finished before me didnt not get the Carmel treatment, which is time consuming. Be warned that if you get the Carmel treatment you will be in the salon for a few hours as the Carmel treatment is left in the hair for about an hour, but it is worth the wait. Those young ladies really worked diligently on my hair which was needed due to residue left in my hair from a previous quick wash and go and would not come out. When my hair was finished it was straight and bouncy. I do want to say I read in other reviews that extreme heat is used on the hair and that due to this it was suggested other customers who went to the salon experienced heat damage. Although a lot of heat was used on my hair I didn't not experience heat damage at all and waited until after I washed my hair to give a review. I had an excellent experience at this salon and wish they could have an additional location where I live, it would literally be a dream come true. I received quality customer service and they were extremely accommodating to my needs. They offered complimentary snacks and drinks several times to make sure I was ok. Everyone was super friendly. I arrived 30 minutes early and they were able to take me back then. I was surprised by that. E'tae has an excellent system setup where you literally do not have to wait on someone to take care of you. I received the Carmel treatment, then my hair was shampooed & conditioned. The detangling process was great, gentle on my hair. When blown out, the dryer was not super hot. She got me about 80% dry and then I was under the hood (I'm stealing that technique). My stylist asked what I wanted and she did a fantastic job of evening out my hair and styling it. My hair was full of bounce and had a nice healthy shine. Yes, I was offered a mirror and saw how she hooked me up. No I did not have different people touch my hair, I had two ladies assist which is typical in any salon. If this place was closer, I would go every other week without fail. Love this salon! read more

I've been to the salon twice now and both times my hair came out very nice and lasted more than a week. Very soft and full. On my second visit, I went on a weekday which was great because I was in and out of there and parking was a breeze. However, if I could make one suggestion, it would be regarding the music played when clients are there. I believe the girls washing hair are interns and they are on the younger side. Now I am not a "woman of a certain age" yet, I'm 29 and enjoy the occasional trap songs that are catchy while I'm in my car, but it's not the best idea to have that blasting in the salon while your trying to enjoy getting your hair done at 9:30am. When one of the younger girls left the shop for a few minutes, my stylist went over and changed the music to some 90's R&B and I was relieved and thanked her. I could see it was bothering other woman in the salon also and then they just put their earbuds in and then you lose that communication with your client that helps build lasting relationships and business. All in all, I'm excited for the new shop to open and will go back. read more

My review is about the products not the salons itself. I began using the E'TAE products about 3 months ago. It was love at first use! Let me first point out that my hair has ALWAYS been healthy, full, flowing, long. and natural. I take great pride in maintaining my hair and I've done a great job. I really just needed a product that help my hair combat the humidity. I live in Northern VA, the summer time humidity is not "cute" on natural hair. I tried the products and instantly loved them. I noticed after the first couple of uses that my hair being breaking and thinning. At first i thought maybe its my season to shed. I thought it was odd but I kept using the products. After a month or two I noticed the shedding and thinning progressed and showed no signs of slowing down. My curl pattern changed, I use to the prettiest spiral curls. Now the back of my head looks like soggy ramen noodles. I called the salon to speak with someone regarding my concern. I spoke with Gloria. Gloria informed me, that there was no way this was being caused by their products. (major side eye) I know my hair, and I know whats normal. This wasn't normal. Gloria proceeded to tell me that I was using too much heat on my hair. What I didn't tell Gloria is that I am in fact a licensed cosmetologist. I decided to pursue a career in law,(I'm now an attorney) and never really did anything with my license. I say all that to say, I know a thing or two. Long story short, Gloria proceeded to tell me that my hair was heat damaged... I've been maintaining my HEALTHY hair for the past 12-15 years. I switched to E'TAE and now all of the sudden my hair is heat damaged? Due to my profession sometimes I will straighten my hair once a week (shampoo days only), it really all depends on how many trials, and dockets I have at court. If I have a light couple of weeks or month I will go heatless and lean towards protective styles. Gloria also proceeded to talk to me as if I was dumb and explain to me that shedding is natural. Well duh... but again I know my hair, I wouldn't be calling if this was normal. For the life of me I didn't want to think that these products could be the cause of this. I just didn't want to believe it. I even went to the doctors thinking that maybe it was a hormonal change. Doctor ordered lab work to check a plethora of things, they all came back completely normal. Literally the only thing I changed with my hair regimen was using E'TAE products. I did some more digging, and read several other reviews from other women that have had the same exact issue! BINGO! I'M NOT CRAZY!!! I really wish Gloria would have taken the time out to listen to me and not be so condescending. Apparently I'm not the only one who's had this issue. This women has never laid eyes on my hair, she never saw how it looked before I started using the products which was under the same amount of heat. She could have easily suggest not using the system weekly, or maybe even suggesting another one of their product. But nope she was too proud and didn't want to hear it. So now I have to cut about 5-6 inches off of my hair. Limp, soggy, Ramen noodle curls are not cute. Also let me add, my goal is not to discourage anyone from using their products. I will probably only use these products maybe once every few months. I have to get my hair back to the fullness it was before. I just want people to know that this is possible. This shop is the worst, sorry but not sorry. I had the worst experience ever at Etae. When I booked our appt I booked with Kesha the owner , well she sat for about 10 mins when we arrived took out her trash and left for the day. I was already irritated once I seen her leave and did not attempt to do me or my child's hair. I watched her stylist do hair and all of their clients have heat damage none them knew how to curl hair at all. The products is bs I mean bs . Never will I ever go there again she is unprofessional and her stylist need to be trained how to do hair. Putting somebody under a hair dryer twice then blow drying their hair afterwards is crazy. Don't ever go to this shop its a waste of time and money they promote healthy hair and the hair is fried . The shop is the size of an bedroom and she over books her clients. read more

Had a 12p appointment and was done by 2p!!! My hair is soft, shiny and bouncy!...I still cant get over how quickly I was done!!! My hair was combed gently...I was not pulled all around or burned. Wash - Was good *Detangling - Needs improvement, I think it would be helpful to ask client from your experience or previous experiences what is the best way to detangle your hair. The young lady was trying to work thru my hair but it was a little struggle and she continued to go from root to ends which can cause breakage Most times ends to roots will be the best way to detangle. Treatment - Was good *Blow Drying - Needs improvement. Same as detangling. You may need to blow dry from ends of hair to roots. In order to have more of a ease and no breakage. In short, there are better, more professional hair salons out there. The owner, Kisha, is a woman who appears to be about in her 40's or so, and is the creator of Etae products. She touts how her products and styling make the hair healthy and manageable and "trained". Looking around at hair of her and her regular clients, I can only see heat damage. She LOVES that blow dryer and flat iron. No one in here can have their hair revert back to the natural curl pattern. Why? If you know anything about natural hair, then you know continued straightening burns and destroys the natural curl pattern. This is the "training'. I'm just not impressed. I also expect some intellect in my stylists. . Lady, give it up & After hearing her spread misinformation too many times I just can't trust her as being an authority on hair. I wanted to love this place and the stylists but there is an air of unprofessionalism and immaturity that I refuse to give my money too. read more

Dissapointed. The salon is beautiful and the staff is excellent, but if you watch all the online videos you will be dissapointed in the shop. Reason being as a 4c natural I was appalled when the stylist raked a blow dryer through my hair. No parting of my hair and blow drying by sections like the videos show. Just straight through, no rhyme or reason. My head was sore and not only that my hair wasn't dry at the roots. I was then sat under a dryer and re-blow dried by the woman that does styling. My hair looked nice when I left but in 2 days it was limp and my roots were completely reverted. (No i didn't work out o simply wrapped it and went to bed). My assumption is that the ladies in her videos have heat trained hair. I wear my hair straight twice annually but even then my hair lasted longer than 2 days with far less heat. I've tried this salon more than once and the results have been the same so not a fluke. read more

This review is only for the retail store. I needed some kind of treatment to moisturize and soften my hair and I heard a lot of great things about the Carmel treatment so I decided to go to the store and pick up one. When I went to the store it was very clean and bright inside. I saw that there were other treatments inside and then I became confused about what product to use. Also, I should mention that when I walked in the store, I was BARELY acknowledged. So I asked the person behind the counter about what product would be best to achieve the results I am looking to get for my hair. She didn't ask me any questions about my hair nor did she tell me about any of the other products in the store. Yet when this group of stylists or assistants walked through the store and went to the salon section of the store, this woman was all giggles and smiles. I felt offended that I am standing there giving you my business but I get treated in such a cold manner. I can see if I was rude to the this person but I don't believe I did anything to receive that kind of treatment to an establishment I'm giving my hard earned money to. Later on I found out this person was the owner of the establishment. My purchase was only $22 dollars but she could of made a lot money off what I spend on natural hair care per year. Needless to say I will not be going back for more products and I found the receipe on how to make my own Carmel treatment. read more

Tried this salon as my first option after going natural and it was not good. I got the caramel treatment and it softened my hair for 4 days. What I didn't like was the lack of information about hair care from the stylists. The faces she made at my course hair..which I saw through the mirror. I will give kudos to the wash crew. Very nice and polite and relatable. Get to the end, time to pay and then comes the up sell of the products. I said to the lady...I don't know anything about your products. No one spoke about them or made me feel like I needed them so I'll pass. My point is the stylists need training on hair care in order to help customers. Staying quiet and applying heat while burning my scalp a dozen times doesn't do it for me or the next customer. I asked questions that the stylist couldn't answer. They are not creative. Do they want to sell the product or do they want to do hair??? The business model is a good one. Just poor execution. Also, the owner's girlfriend kept mentioning she knew the owner and needed special privileges...even the wash girl admitted she got away with her wild behavior because she knew the owner. Natural Ladies, NEVER go to this place!! At the time of my visit I had been natural for about 10 years and wanted to try a straight style for a change. I'd read all the wonderful reviews about their Carmel Treatment so I went and tried it out. There are a lot of things that went wrong during my visit, but to make a long story short, my hair was heat damaged by the extreme heat that they used to straighten it. My hair looked beautiful, but when I washed it a few days later it NEVER REVERTED! About 3/4 of my hair was still straight after I washed it! It was HEAT DAMAGED and I was furious! I called the salon and spoke with the owner, Keisha and she was absolutely useless. I was upset about my hair but even more disgusted with how dismissive the owner was toward me. I explained that I came in there with a huge afro that I'd grown out for 10 years. My natural hair was now reduced to limp, straight, damaged hair after going to Etae. I trusted her salon and stylist with my hair and it backfired on me. She sucked her teeth told me that the straightness was because of the heat and I should just keep washing and conditioning it and my natural textural will come back eventually. She wasn't apologetic or understanding at all. After about 4 months of waiting for it go back, I decided to cut it off. I read up on heat damage and learned that there's no fix for it. So after 10 yrs of growing out my natural hair, I had to start all over with a TWA because of this salon. Don't give them your money or your time. This is not a salon for people who actually want a natural texture. If you want straight hair that is damaged and never reverts then this is the place for you... if not then NEVER go this so called natural salon! read more
