During my initial phone call, I felt that the representative interrupted me and ended the call. I understand that one phone call may not reflect the quality of the hospice care they provide, and I'm not saying they are a bad hospice. However, first impressions are important, especially when families are going through one of the most difficult times of their lives. I was looking for compassion, patience, and someone who would simply listen. Unfortunately, because I felt cut off during the conversation, I didn't feel comfortable moving forward with their services. I hope this feedback is helpful, as a little more empathy to make a significant difference for families facing end-of-life care decisions.

I research services from yelp, google, Reddit, and any other source, and I read reviews to see if…read morethe complaints are one-offs, or a general consensus. My father was dying of cancer. With no timeline in place, home hospice was needed. I interviewed three places; but it was when Dr. Ruben walked into my dad's hospital room, that the unforgettable experience with Bonum began. Dr. Ruben knows cancer. He had read dad's chart and came prepared. He had been a surgical oncologist; worked in an E.R., and knew the names of dad's countless prescribed medications that were were trying to remember and pronounce....he completed each sentence. He was the one. My father was brought home on Monday, but before he arrived, hospice bed, oxygen tanks, nebulizers and commode were delivered and organized. The first of two outstanding Bonum hospice nurses, Gerard, arrived and comforted us with info on how the process works. When the ambulance arrived with my father, Dr. Ruben arrived at my home. I told him that the morning had run so well. Everything on time, and organized. As the days continued, ANY need we had, within hours, it arrived. My father had no muscle to hold up his head. I asked for a neckbrace, the next day, an amazon package arrived with a brace. As the needs for meds increased, home delivery arrived same day. A few days ago, my father tried to get out of his bed and fell. I was exhausted from sleepless nights, and uncomfortable with how often I was messaging with the Bonum on-call nurse. Alicia was an incredible nurse. So generous with time, patience and kindness. The nurses never complained. They loved and cared. After my dad's fall, I asked for bedrails. They arrived the same day and were installed. I didn't pay a penny for anything. Sunday, 6 days after arriving at my home, my dad took a change for the worse. I called and spoke with the nurse. I described what he looked like. She said, "I'm sending a nurse. Would you like a Chaplain to come pray." YES. I'm chocked up. YES. They know EVERY detail about this process. THEY - BONUM. WOW They never told me he was dying. They were respectful, but they knew. And after the nurse visit, and chaplain visit, at 12:06am, we found my father finally resting peacefully with eyes closed for the first time in days, and his hands crossed on his chest. It was beautiful. I called the nurse. She said "would you like me to come now?" I said, no. I know he is gone. Please call our cremation services provider so that they come pick up his body. Today Dr. Ruben called to express his condolences and I assured him that there is NO WAY, I could have managed this without Bonum. Thank you Bonum team.

My wife has been under the care of Burbank Hospice since last year, when she spent two months in…read morethe hospital battling two major vascular surgeries, pneumonia, septic shock, two weeks in the ICU, and the underlying illness driving all this...Multiple Sclerosis. Once she was stable, the hospital's palliative care team recommended discharging her to hospice care. I spent a lot of time coordinating with the hospital hospice representative only to be told a day before discharge that their agency could not care for my wife since she had an open and infected surgical wound plus another open healing wound. None of the other major hospice companies would help us either. As you can imagine, this caused us a great deal of stress and anxiety. After making a few calls, the doctor found Burbank Hospice Care who stepped up and took on the challenge This turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The Burbank Hospice team took on my wife's case energetically, managed the difficult wounds with a "wound vac" and pic line, and monitored her lingering pneumonia and other infections. Slowly, over time, my wife rallied with this excellent care despite the fact that the doctors only gave her days to two weeks to live after she was sent home. Burbank Hospice staff provided all of the necessary equipment, supplies and prescriptions, which was monitored by regular visits from the agency's nurses. Whenever I have a concern or a worry, the Burbank Hospice team responds quickly and with compassion. Recently, my wife had another setback after a procedure and spent three weeks in the hospital. Again, Burbank Hospice was there after discharge to oversee her care and she is now resting comfortably. My wife's battle with this chronic illness has been an isolating experience with few visits from family and friends. The Burbank Hospice team is now like family to us. Their care, compassion and responsiveness have taken a lot of stress out of a very stressful situation. We are grateful for their support and would highly recommend them to anyone seeking hospice care for a loved one.

I switched because respite was too far and i needed respite to be closeby for my surgery. Lesson: never receive hospice if it is affiliated with PIH hospitals or any hospital.

At the time of my complaint their executive director either or fired or resigned and so did their social services director. Within 4 months two executive directors were replaced because NO one wanted to take responsibility for facility's poor performance to the point they abused their patients. The RED hand next to their name is Medicare's recognition that the facility has proven history of abuse. Third (I was 51) admitted after attempting suicide (and had had hypoxya) and when I was well enough to go home the staff wouldn't let me leave to try to sell my condo. They barricaded the doors and put several workers in my way so I couldn't leave then was left with a stern warning that I HAD TO COME BACK. My dad looks forward to Diane each and every time. She is so caring and makes my dad feel very comfortable.
